We had a wonderful three night stay at the Auld Kirk as we walked around the coast of Britain. Vanessa and Fergus were great hosts and really helpful. The B&B has all been so well thought out. Our hosts are keen cyclists and they are planning a secure bike store and maintenance area. We were very grateful to be able to dry off our wet gear in the boiler room. We had great breakfasts served early so we could get off on our walks.
This has been our best B&B stay in over 3000 miles walking the coast. You really won't be disappointed if you stay at the Auld Kirk

My partner and I stayed at The Auld Kirk for 4 nights while we toured the area on our motorbikes.
This gem of a bed and breakfast made our stay most enjoyable. Vanessa and Fergus are the most warm and welcoming hosts we've met on our many travels around Scotland.
Our room was beautiful and comfortable with lovely quality soft furnishings and a mattress that ensured a good night's sleep after a day out exploring the area.
Breakfast was delicious and Vanessa took time to make sure it was cooked to perfection.
I'm so looking forward to staying again very soon.

This is a terrific old church conversion that the owner, Vanessa, has turned into a B&B. It is located in a lovely little hamlet within an especially leafy and green part of southern Scotland. It is ideally situated for exploring the coast, woods and hills of this area and since Vanessa is especially interested in cycling there are all sorts of 2 wheel services available. The welcome was warm and genuine and the inside has that immediate Wow factor. Our bedroom was exceptionally beautiful with lots of space, huge bed and large shower room. Bedding, furniture, toiletries, teas etc are all top quality which is so great to see. The dining and lounge area is immense and yet so warm and inviting while Vanessas breakfasts are superb. Location, visual impact, comfort and quality are all first class as is the personal attention from the owner so I cannot recommend this lovely B&B enough.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review and for choosing to spend your time in the south west at the Auld Kirk. As a new business, it's good to know that the vision I had for the church is being well received and guests are finding the space inviting and relaxing. It was a pleasure to host you both and your input was invaluable. I look forward to seeing you back some time in the future.

I was looking for a base for a short stay cycling around the Solway coast area. Cycling in the area is great, lots of very quiet roads, I was lucky enough to cycle with Vanessa and some members of the Dumfries Cycling Club as part of my visit. The Auld Kirk is a unique building and was formerly a church. Very spacious inside to unwind with a warm welcome from Vanessa, who is very knowledgeable about the local area - history, things to do and where to eat. A great selection of healthy breakfasts are on offer and for an evening meal the Steamboat Inn is only a mile away, a lovely walk along a very quiet road.

I spent a weekend at the Auld Kirk and can honestly say I was instantly relaxed upon arrival. Vanessa is a lovely, easy going host who is on hand for anything you need. The room was spacious, we were in the largest, and had room for our little dog too, a nice surprise to be dog friendly! The bed was so comfortable and gave us a peaceful sleep, the quiet atmosphere is really prevalent when you stay, it’s far enough away from anything noisy make it perfect for peace and quiet. The Kirk itself is such an interesting building with a lot of interesting history. The surrounding areas of the Kirk, Kirkbean and further down the road at Carsetborn are really beautiful, we were lucky with sunny weather and went for lovely long walks around the area, with the help of Vanessa’s expertise. Our breakfast was gorgeous! Our host even catered to my GF needs. We found everything we needed and more in our stay, we enjoyed it so much that we’ll be asking friends and family to go next time! Thank you for a gorgeous stay.

We had an amazing time in The Auld Kirk. From the moment we opened the door Vanessa made us feel at home and the wee dog of the Kirk, equally, treated us like family.

The Auld Kirk has been tastefully and warmly set up to provide an open, welcoming space for sitting with others - no, don't be thinking it's weird, it works. Comfortable sofas or sit at the table, it was enjoyable, chatty and easy.

Of course, there's complete privacy in our own designated rooms. Ours was really lovely with plenty of space, facilities and comfortable bed.

The surroundings of this historical building is a graveyard with headstones that had us engrossed, each one telling a story. A short walk away is the sea and beach n plenty of birds to spot.

Thanks Vanessa and Fergus for being kind and welcoming. You looked after us so well. We'll be back.

We couldn't fault The Auld Kirk. The interior is beautiful - everything is of a very high standard. Very comfortable bed and lovely soft towels. Vanessa was the perfect hostess - nothing was too much trouble. She even looked after our dog while we visited the local museum. We enjoyed our chats while she cooked us a great breakfast - the choice on the menu was impressive. Fergus the dog was good company too! One of the best places we have every stayed at, and we hope to return.

Fantastic b&b in a beautiful area. Lovely old building but all you could want from a B&B. Vanessa is lovely and so welcoming nothing is too much trouble and Fergus the wee dog is so friendly. We loved our 2 nights and would definitely come back. Breakfast was delicious and everything top quality. Bedroom comfortable, clean and everything you needed. First class hospitality.
