We were down at a log cabin for a few days and decided we fancied a carvery. I quickly googled carvery Dumfries and this was one of the top results. I can see why it was very good I had soup to start which was defiantly home made and tastes delicious. As for the carvery, The roast beef was perfect... More

Friendly welcome and a cheery waitress. Good Burger and Game Pie. Nice atmosphere. Clean toilets which often seems to be overlooked these days. Pity we couldn't stay longer and drink the beer as we were doing a show. Ideal for food if you are touring to Catstrand.

We were aware we were getting a small room, and that wasn't a problem. It was fairly comfortable, and the only issue was lack of space in the bathroom for standing toiletries. Any shelf space not taken already tended to be sloping, so items simply slipped into the basin. The mirror was also very loose, and when wiping steam from... More

We stop here on our way out towards Girvan and it marks the start of our holiday. Wonderfully cooked, home food, done and served with pride. This time around I missed the chicken & haggis, but the freshly caught fish, superbly beer-battered was an ample substitute. My wife had soup and sandwich, which she enjoyed. Great setting near the busy... More

It doesn't get better than the Ken Bridge hotel. We stayed for three nights, but our schedule proved dynamic and unlike the Ashburn House, Dave worked with us. We were deer stalking and even though we got done each night after the restaurant closed, Dave made arrangements to feed us. One night we were having a pint of ale and... More

We loved this hotel, Dave and Sue are so friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Our room had a homely feel, a lovely view of the river and a great bathroom. Good choice of delicious food at breakfast and dinner. The central location is great for exploring Dumfries and Galloway.

The Ken Bridge hotel has a really lovely terrace overlooking the river. We enjoyed 2 nights at this hotel and the hosts were really friendly and helpful. Our room was rather small and the bed was not the best - but there was a good en suite. Food was generally good and the service great.

Dave the owner is a nice bloke and makes you feel relaxed and welcome. The whole hotel is very clean, the room was very well presented, crisp white bed linen and the bathroom gleamed and smelt lovely. The surroundings are beautiful, right on the river. It is a peaceful and laid back place. The food was delicious and home made,... More

On our way to the Grey Mares Tail (which we ended up not seeing due to torrential rain) we needed to stop off for food. Driving through Castle Douglas there was nothing which looked enticing or what we were after - which was a nice pub with a fair choice on the lunch menu and ideally options for children so... More
