The property is stunning, however, it is in a very poor state of repair. both inside and out. The downstairs area is very grubby and the carpets totally threadbare and ripped into holes in places, especially on the stairs. We were shown to room by a gentleman in scruffy jeans

We stayed at the Churston Manor hotel as it was a wedding gift. On arrival it took 40 minutes to be served an alcoholic beverage as there was only 1 person serving behind the bar. Our room was very poor in cleanliness. No toilet roll, mouldy bath/ shower mat. Stagnant water in

The BBC Spotlight link has now expired so unfortunately you cannot use it but as the person that stayed there and did the interview I will give you my thoughts. The standard of fire safety was some of the lowest that I have seen in a hotel and included obstructed escape routes, fire exits difficult to open, fire extinguishers not showing that they had been serviced for 3 years, electrical equipment not tested, very poor housekeeping, poor electrical installation, fire doors not up to the required standard and not self closing etc, etc. As you can see it was a disaster waiting to happen so I notified Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, the BBC and the Conservation Officer and the BBC did their own investigation and confirmed my findings which was shown in BBC Spotlight last Wednesday. I also sent a copy of my findings to the owner but I had no reply except for the message on TA that it was all completed - I would doubt that as there was so much to do and the FRS would not have issued an Action Plan if that had been the case. Personally, I would not stay there until all the rectification work had been done and the FRS have signed it off as satisfactory.

Hi Andrew - and yes, Churston Court Hotel is now under new ownership. It was acquired in October 2016 by Chris Hodson and myself (we are also the landlords at the Manor Inn Galmpton nearby). We plan to bring our own touch to Churston Court, and we very much hope to see you soon. best wishes Jonathan Smith
