We were mountain biking nearby and booked the hotel because of its location. I was really happy with it, the price was great, the staff were friendly and the food in the pub was just what we were after having been outside all day.

Lovely location central to many attractions of mid Wales:- The spectacular Devils Bridge and waterfalls are only a short drive away , Aberystwyth up the road and many scenic drives across the fells or through the mountains in any direction from the hotel ! Basic but spotless room and great choice of menu in evenings either to eat in the... More

What a disappointment was our visit to the George Borrow Hotel for an evening meal. The welcome was as warm as the log fire in the bar. But when we went into the cold dining room everything changed. We order a 'special' on the night - described as a beef and mushroom ale pie, it was horrible. When it arrived... More

In booking this hotel (not booked through TA) we thought it was in Aberystwyth however as town was full of new students at the Uni, no great problem. Small hotel with very friendly hard working owners, unfortunately the lords of health & safety have forced changes that takes away some of charm of such an hotel. The big joy of... More

Stayed at above last weekend with our labrador Flake. Great position, good food and clean but needs tidying. Safety issue no outdoor lighting at rear entrance and there is a 200 ft drop at back of garden just a couple of rails which dogs and children could fall through

Second night of our roadtrip. A little difficult to find out amongst the hills, but once you do the views are stunning. Hotel and room clean, the staff very friendly and helpful. Both the evening meal and breakfast were very good and filling. If you have had a long day you can just relax here, refresh yourself with a drink... More

We were on a Freerein horse riding holiday travelling a section between Devil's Bridge & Tal y bont. We were dripping wet when we stopped here on a very rainy day with our horses. Despite our condition we received a genuine warm welcome. Our wet gear was hung up in the boiler room & some of our clothing was even... More

This is only a two-star hotel, and is VERY old - George Borrow did stay there! - so the rooms have very thick walls and heavy doors (which are rather difficult to negotiate with bags, etc.), and ours, No. 4, was fairly small (given that the ensuite facilities had to be fitted in.) Having said that, the view from the... More

How many hotels can boast, from their Beer Garden, a view down a dramatic 200 foot gorge with a waterfall plunging into a raging river? The George Borrow can, and Hotel Reception is accessed via the Beer Garden where you'll see the gorge with its stunning backdrop of hills for the first time. The hotel was smaller than I'd expected... More

The staff were very friendly and the food extremely tasty and well priced. It was also child friendly as our granddaughter was able to play out in the garden while we were finishing our food inside. My husband chose steak which was cooked to his liking and I had the most tasty pie with lovely pastry and filling. The only... More
