Staying in an old castle in Italy. Sounds like a dream, not? I booked this hotel for 2 colleagues and myself and we were amazed when we arrived. Such an old building, such a beautiful view. The rooms were okay, spacious and clean. A bit of a disappointment was the fact that the rooms are not in the castle. The rooms are in a dependance, and nicely decorated, like you are in a castle though. The dining room is in the castle and that was an experience in itself.
This place is charming and atmospheric - truly a "castle" in which to stay. Our first room was rather disappointing - small and warm, as the central aircon was being repaired that day. But the wonderful Marta on reception arranged for a room change into the main part of the castle - a vast improvement and a wonderful room. The bed/mattress was wonderfully firm without being hard, the bathroom large with its double sink, and the wifi fast and reliable. Marta deserves further mention because she was an outstanding hostess, going way beyond what one expects or deserves from FOH staff, even in a 4 star establishment. We ate 2 nights in the restaurant (there's not a lot of choice within easy driving distance), and the food was among the best we have had in Italy for a long time! Stunning, creative entrees in particular. I've tried staying in "castles" elsewhere, but this was one time when the experience lived up to expectations. Highly recommended.…
A little get-away weekend to combine the hills, the food and the ambiance. Castello di Pavone had a special dinner, bed, breakfast package that included a guided tour of the castle. The castle is truly impressive, with a secluded yet prominent position. The apero was delightful, taken in the open air courtyard, with only the birds for company. The dinner, of 4 courses was delicious, and in a beautiful 600year old dining room. The kitchen catered for my veg vegetarian partner with a provision that made my sumptuous dinner look second rate. Recommend? Yes, with full enthusiasm!
We had seen this castle many times from the highway during our trips from France to Italy and back... Seeing it at night is particularly impressive, as it is lit in a very suggestive way. But we never thought about actually stopping there, as we expected it to be a bit of a disneyland sort of place... But it isn't!! We had a wonderful room by one of the towers, very cosy and beautifully furnished. The dinner was also wonderful, with attentive and friendly service and beautiful dishes. Our waiter suggested a fabulous wine - a real discovery from the local vineyards… The following morning we visited the site - it is a truly gorgeous castle, beautifully maintained by the owners. Worth a visit and a stay!!
On arrival we found reception staff cold and unhelpful, providing no insight to the castle or the surrounding region. In contrast the restaurant and its staff were outstanding. There were no amenities, other than a restaurant open for breakfast and dinner. Rooms were extremely dark, dusty with poor air conditioning and the odd scorpion! The nearby town of Ivrea was delightful and its people extremely welcoming.
