On arrival at Rancho Margot it was difficult to get a scope of the place. The reception area is small and there is no grand entrance. It quickly becomes apparent that EVERYTHING here is thoughtfully and passionately designed. From the bar and dining area to the walkways, signage, and lush plants. This isn't a place to stay but one to...

We loved rancho Margot! The place is beautiful, we were very impressed by the self sufficient facilities, the workers and volunteers are kind and helpful (our horse riding guide, Alejandro, was particularly friendly, we really enjoyed our afternoon with him, as well as Aurelio who was our kayaking guide). The food is excellent. We also enjoyed the yoga classes in...

I visited Rancho Margot with a friend and we stayed in the bunkhouse which was great. We slept with mosquito nets which we're actually really quite comfortable and fun :) The grounds are amazing. We took a tour of the place when we arrived to see how everything worked. Wow! These guys know what they are doing. They grow all...

Great food, nice staff, farm and beautiful land! For 270 a night we had a gorgeous cabin with a view. Sounds great right ? Wrong !! On our tour we find animals chained up and caged brutally. The pigs raised for meat are jammed into cages with metal floors far from nature. They never get to come out! The cows...

I was recommended this place by a friend who lived in La Fortuna for a while. I was not disappointed. Rancho Margot is a sustainable ecolodge that is quiet and secluded in the mountains. There are activities to do at the lodge that are included in the rate, and there are trails through forest. The lodge is so beautiful and...

Really enjoyed it overall: the room was nice, good food, informative tour, great staff. But it is in the forest and it's focus on energy efficiency translates to a dark few days. The lighting was always dim, even mid afternoon. Hard to read at night in the rooms too. But otherwise it was great.

Rancho Margot is truly a fascinating place. It is a working organic farm, that truly lives by the working philosophy of reducing its carbon footprint. The farm produces its own electricity, recycles its waste, and all the food in its restaurant (which is incredibly delicious) is farmed right there — from chickens and pigs, to vegetables, herbs and fruit. The...

The other reviews are correct in a lot of ways, but there are a few things that some people might like to know. There is no view of the lake or volcano from Margot. Make sure you are looking for a rugged, earthy experience. There is no A/C. The road to Margot was quite bad once you get off the paved...
