We stayed three nights at the Nepenthe and really enjoyed it. The location up the dumpy dirt road away from the touristy La Fortuna (~30min. drive to down town) made it the perfect location to relax in the swinging chair or at their nice cool pool - the entire place (pool, cabins, breakfast) has nice views of the Vulcano Arenal...

This was simple the most stunning setting for a B&B! The pool and views were perfect and rooms was clean and spacious. The drive up was quite exciting, and we were glad to have our 4x4, but there were other guests who made it up in normal cars. Breakfast was great and staff were always happy to help. Highly recommended!

The surroundings are breath taking and you can enjoy it from a relax chair on your terrace. Big plus! Welcome was a bit cold after a challenging drive up-hill. Don't try this with your luxury sedan. You will simply not make it!!! Breakfast was nice with neatly set table, fresh fruits and a freshly backed omelet. Would not spend more...

We stayed in Nepenthe for the first 3 days of our Costa Rica trip and we wished we had stayed here longer ! The cabanas are super cozy with a hammock and swing chair in every patio . The room was clean with beautiful views of the Arenal lake and volcano . This place is only a 5 minute drive...

We chose this hotel because it was pet friendly! It had amazing views of the lake and the setting was great. Each room had its own swinging chairs and hammocks outside. Our room had a kitchen and slept 4 (and a dog) nicely. The breakfast in the morning was great and we had the best coffee I've had in CR!...

Nepenthe has some of the best views to be had of Lake Arenal and partial views of the volcano. The gardens are full of birds and butterflies, the tall trees around echo with the calls of toucans, and in the evening howler monkeys. As others have said, a 4x4 is preferable - the road to the hamlet of El Castillo...

We loved this place. It's a tough way to go there and only possible with a 4X4 but once you reach there you will love it. You have the full view on the Arenal Lake and you can see lots of different birds. The bungalow was fine, we had everything we needed also a little kitchen corner and absolutely enough...

This B&B seems really far, especially if getting there at night as you must travel through a dirt road to get there. It helps to try to arrive while there is sunlight. It is central to many local sites. The rooms are clean and the bed was ok. Breakfast was good. The only restaurant affiliated with the hotel does not...

We stayed at Nepenthe B&B for two nights during a visit to Costa Rica, and had a lovely time. The location is well off the beaten path, up in the hills and boasts spectacular views of Lago Arenal. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was delicious and the staff was lovely. A requirement is a 4WD vehicle to get up...

We were there for only one night, the service was OK, friendly staff, dinner at their restaurant was very good, but everything is overpriced. The ceilings were stained, we had a roach in the bathroom and got allergy from the blankets. Sadly, as everything else in Costa Rica, the prices don't match the quality or the service that you get....
