Detailed Reviews
My wife's choice is always so spot on when choosing getaways that I've become wary of taking decisions of any kind on such matter... Arts in the Garden definitely ends any doubts that I may still have harboured about her uncanny ability to spot a gem. The weekend we spent there in early December was one of the most pleasant I have had in any weekend getaway anywhere. Apart from having carved a warm, cosy and welcoming presence in the middle of a cold Norman countryside, which offers the most delicious homemade cuisine, Krishna and Brian provided something that wasn't listed in the brochure: their charming company. (Reminded me of that silly cliche Visa Card ad about what money can't buy). I never would have believed it if anyone had told me before that evening that spending one's Anniversary evening with one's B&B host and hostess could be something to write home about. Of course their friends Anne and Paul (who were also guests for the weekend) added their own charm to the evening by spending it with us. We enjoyed it so much that I wont be surprised if I find myself there, if not for our future Anniversary celebrations, then definitely for whatever other excuses we can conjure up. The logistical aspects were just as wonderful; including the spacious bathroom, monsoon shower, down quilt and the charming touch that left two toasty hot water bottles under the quilt. I could go on and on about the loveable cats, the crackling fire, the ubiquitous artwork, Brian's music repertoire, the... but suffice it to say that anyone who visits this gem of a place and leaves unhappy has to pay a quick visit to his therapist to figure out what's wrong with him (cant imagine a her in that situation).

My partner and I spent a weekend here in March 2014 as part of a Wonderbox present.
We wanted to spend the weekend visiting Mont St Michel (and Versailles on our drive back to Paris Orly airport) and this guesthouse had some of the best reviews of guesthouses in the surrounding area.
The reviews were not wrong.
The guesthouse itself is beautiful. The house is well decorated especially with Brian's art. From the moment of booking to the point of departure we were made to feel warm - Brian and Krishna take great care to ensure their guests enjoy their stay.
The highlight however for us was Krishna - who we absolutely fell in love with. She has a great story to tell from her Kenyan Indian roots, to growing up in London and ending up now in France. She has a lovely warm smile and takes the time to speak with you, tell you all about the surrounding area and is generally great company.
Krishna also made x2 delicious dinners for us (as part of the Wonderbox scheme). The first night a French one, the second night, Indian - everything home home made.
We had a terrific weekend in Normandy, made particularly special by our interaction with Krishna at Art in the Garden.

Four of us (two parents and two children) have just returned from France having stayed for three nights in this fabulous chambre d'hotes. The location is very rural and extremely quiet (although the dawn chorus is quite something) with far-reaching views over very attractive countryside.
The accomodation is comfortable; we stayed in the room with the annex, which is ideal for families having a second bedroom but single bathroom off the master beroom. It wouldn't be ideal for four adults. But three things make Arts in the Garden exceptional:
Firstly the hosts: Brian and Krishna are great company as well as excellent hosts.
Secondly the food: Breakfast was typical (but good) French fayre: croissants, bread, pastries, coffee etc. but dinner (if you choose to take it - and you should) is exceptional. Krishna is an excellent cook and can turn her hand to French cooking, simple food (for a fussy nine year old) or memorable Indian cuisine.
Thirdly the garden: Brian and Kristna have been developing this for twenty years and it is a wonderful - and rather unexpected - gem in an otherwise attractive but agricultural landscape.
A chambre d'hotes is essentially accomodation and meals in someone's house. It isn't the same as a small hotel; you'll need to arrive and eat at agreed times and the owners are hosts in their own home, not employees. When it works well - as it does here - you can have a holiday experience that you just can't get in any other sort of establishment.

This chambre d'hote just did not live up to our expectations after reading the reviews on this site, felt compelled to add this review as concerned for future travellers.
Arts in the garden is really very much off the beaten track and tricky to find, it takes at minimum of 25 minutes to the nearest town not 10 as suggested, to find restaurants there is that long drive through mostly rural roads.
We dined with Krishna and Brian on our first evening which was pleasant but there was an atmosphere that this was a little tiring for them, particularly Krishna who I found quite ascerbic throughout the stay.
We were told on two occasions that they would be out for the day so we could not return to the house until after 5 as would be locked - great!!
The room was ok, but noisy, we awoke when are guests did as we were above the kitchen and decor very chintzy.
Overall it seems that our hosts would rather we were not there, maybe so they could focus on the loud work with their builders.
There are beautiful places to stay in Normandy, we came here from a wonderful chambred'hote just outside Bordeaux , but arts in the gardent does not enhance yourexperience, in fact it put a real dampner on what had been a wonderful trip!

Before I start, please understand that myself and my wife have travelled extensively throughout the world and are a professional couple in our thirties.
We have friends over from Australia and we decided to show them around Normandy. We looked at various hotels, but decided to book Arts in the Garden for four nights. We orginally looked at the green room, but after correspondance with the owner, he suggested that we book the white room and annex, with the only slight inconvenience being a shared bathroom. We agreed as our friends are in their twenties.
After an eight our drive, we arrived to be met by the owners wife who after saying hello, literally showed us to our room and annex and then left without a word. No advice on the local area, no information about breakfast, no enquiry about our trip. We thought that we were in the way. Other gites in France where we have stayed would chat on arrival, offer you a drink, etc.
We went to the room and annex, to discover that the annex was in fact a very small adjoining room with a bed. No facilities to make a drink, no tv, hardly anywhere to store clothes. Our room was ok, but we were only given two cups amd two towels and the thing that we found slightly disapointing was the shared bathroom. This was in our room, and if our friends wanted to use it, they had to open our door come into our room. Not a major problem, but just a little bit of a pain.
I went downstairs and spoke to the owners wife about the lack of cups and towels and she said that she was expecting children. She then said that the owner was not availble for twenty minutes and shut the kitchen door in my face!!
We went into the garden and had a drink and then the owner finally arrived with a piece of paper. The conversation went like this;
Owner: You obviously had pre-conceived ideas about what you expected. if you dont like it, I suggest that you pay for one night and leave!
That was the first thing that he said. I replied suggesting that I was expecting a Luxury B and B as advertised and I did expect to have to ask for cups and towels or have a door shut on my face.
He went to speak to his wife and came back saying that every other guest loved the house, but his wife had been working too hard!!!
We agreed to sleep on it and talk again in the morning.
All four of us went to breakfast and halfway through, the owner came into the breakfast room and handed my a bill for one night. We hadn't spoken to him at all and this was in front of other guests!!!
This is without doubt the worst hotel, gite, B&B that we have ever stayed in. We got the impression that we were in the way and that both the owners thought that the B&B was Luxury and that if you didn't agree with anything that they said, the response was to leave. Fantastic customer service, not!!!!
Do not waste your money and stay here. We had to scramble around to book a hotel in Caen after effectively being chucked out for doing no more than ask for towels and cups!!!
Looking back, it was so bad it's funny!!!!

This client arrived rather late, when my wife Krishna was serving and cooking for other guests, so she was not in a position to give the detailed description of the area, questions about their trip, etc. which the client feels were required. We usually spend a lot of time with guests, even guests like these, who do not wish to eat with us and whose only interest in our kitchen is as a place to chill their own wine. But the real problem here was that the client, in choosing our White Room and the adjoining room, the Annexe, had made a poor choice of rooms and was very upset to find the shower/wc located in the White Room. He claimed that my e-mail description - 'White Room with en suite bathroom' was ambiguous. As the two couples did not know each other well, this was the cause of some embarrassment, which they covered by looking for trivial issues to complain about. This was creating an icy atmosphere for our other guests, so I naturally suggested they might be happier elsewhere.

Unfortunately we have to agree with the Jan 2010 review by '2muskateers'. Myself and my husband visited with my parents, stayed for 2 nights and although clean and tidy, I would not term the B&B as 'luxury holiday accommodation'. My parents were in the 'white room' & we were in the 'green room'. A 'mezzanine' in the green room is a far stretch, to get to the bed you have to climb up a ladder (similar to as if it was a top bunk bed) and the bed was bacially a mattress on the floor (could not stand up due to restricted ceiling height). The B&B is at least 15-20min from the main motorway (A84) & half decent choice of eating places. The roads to the B&B are narrow country lanes with no lighting so at night time it can be difficult to find your way back. Although stated on the website for the B&B, we saw no daily newspapers and did not see, nor were invited into, the 'music room and library'. The breakfast on both mornings was basic - cereal, croissants, bread and yogurts. The final straw for us was upon leaving, bring presented with the bill which included 6 Euros for four cups of tea we had on our final night - very disappointing.

We are very well travelled, however we were seduced by the website for this b and b and booked 4 nights for ourselves and our 2 friends. On arrival we were shown to our rooms which we felt did not match up to the description on the web site. Our room had no tea or coffee making facilities (as stated). 2 scatter cushions for pillows and the" walk in wardrobe" was a cubby hole with equipment stored in there and just contained a rail for clothes and shoe rack. The real disappointment though was with our friend's room. This was the 'Garden Room', the room was tiny, had no wardrobe space at all, just a few coathooks, the 'mezzanine bed' was a mattress laid on a platform constructed over the back of the room and accessed by a flimsy steep ladder. The ceiling was so low that you could not stand up by the mattress, one side of the mattress was up against the back wall where the ceiling sloped even further down, It was impossible for one person to get out without climbing over the other. This was a room being charged at 79 Euros per night! For that amount you would expect a comfortable nights sleep, this was more like camping, the sleeping arrangements might suit children with a sense of adventure but not adults. As a solution to the complaint Brian suggested that he could turn the bed settee into a bed, we refused this because it would have left no room around the already small space and it is not acceptable to pay 79 Euros for a 'put me up'. The positive part of the experience was Krishna's food which was good.
We would definitely not recommend this b & b, it is overpriced, out of the way and oversold in its description. We stopped for one night because we were tired from travelling and moved on to much superior accommodation for considerably less money for the remainder of our holiday.

We were given excellent directions and found the B & B easily as it is in the heart of the french countryside. The garden is just springing into life and will be beautiful in the summer. Krishna was great fun as well as doing everything in her power to make our short stay enjoyable. Her cooking is superb and we were served a delicious dinner with complimentary wine. We shall certainly return if we are in the area again.

We stopped over for one memorably pleasurable night on our way back from holiday, Arts in the Garden being about a 90-minute drive to a mid-morning ferry at Cherbourg the following day. Our only reservation about posting a glowing recommendation here is that it might make it harder for us to rebook in the future. The owners are charming and the ambience, comfort and catering are top notch. Well worth a detour and a longer stay.

We had a two night stay in this comfortable B&B.
We found the room very comfortable and the bathroom excellent. There was some building work at the rear of the house but it did not spoil our visit. The front garden is really worth visitng and is a credit to the owners. However the rear garden is just an overgrown mess. The food at breakfast was very good but just continental style. We had booked an evening meal on our first nights stay and the meal was very good although we have had better wine. We both thought this was rather expensive at 35 euros each.
We had a similar meal meal the following night at a Bistro in a nearby town for 20 euros including wine.
Apart from the expensive food the only other downside was that the B&B is rather remote being about 20 mins drive from anywhere.

Chers Andréa et Joseph Aguilar-Martinhas, j'apprécie cette opinion qu'après trois ans au moins quelqu'un a eu le courage de dire à Trip Advisor à quel point cet intervenant était injust.
