One mile from Haputale town, in the Uva Province, are the Kelburne Mountain View Cottages, nestled in the midst of a tea estate. Perched at the edge of a cliff, 5,000 feet above sea-level, the cottages overlook five provinces: the Eastern, the Southern, the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and the Uva. Kelburne Mountain View features three cottages: Aerie, Wildflower, and Rose. Sitting on the terrace of our colonial-style cottages, you will marvel at the vista that spreads before you. The rolling hills and valleys below will make you feel as if you are soaring through the sky like a Kite gliding on the wind currents. Come to where time stands still. Stay at Kelburne Mountain View.

We spent two nights at this resort. As advertised the views were fantastic (thought the cloud rolled in from time to time,) the bungalow had character and was very comfortable, the food was excellent but the real highlight was the staff who could not have done more to help us.

As good as all the accolades and reviews suggest. Simply the most amazing view in stunning grounds, with delicious food and immaculate service. Think old fashioned colonial style simplicity rather than international hotel standards; it's like stepping back in time. Special

Dear Sydney991, Thank you for your review on your stay at Kelburne Mountain View Cottages. Yes, we have tried to keep it as authentic as a planter’s bungalow was in days gone by. We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed our service and hospitality at Kelburne. We hope to see you again soon. Sincerely, The Kelburne Mountain View Team

My husband and I visited on our honeymoon and can't wait to come back again someday. When we arrived, we were given a tour of our cottage and the grounds by welcoming staff, then offered afternoon tea and badminton racquets to take advantage of the court. The main thing to do

Colonial and beautiful, this hotel is perched amid tea plantations 15 minutes drive from Haputale. The villas are solid, unadorned and reasonably spacious. Ours was recently built and had clearly not yet been finished for the season (one layer of paint, scuffed in places, bare

Dear Thomas H, Thank you for your feedback on your stay at Kelburne. We are glad that you found the cottages solid and spacious and the view breathtaking. Sunflower Cottage, situated higher than the other cottages, has a panoramic view of southern Sri Lanka. In fact, on a clear day you can see the surf of the Indian Ocean and at night the twinkle of lights of Hambantota, Tangalle, and Matara. Raja, who served you, has gotten very good reviews from previous guests. Service and privacy are very important to us. We are not sure who could have knocked on your window, since Raja, could have entered the house through the front door and knocked on your room door, but we are looking into it. Guests have a choice of either eating in the restaurant or their own cottage. However, we have instructed the house boys to enquire where guests want meals served, and whether guests would prefer their food served all together or individually as a starter, main course, and dessert, to prevent bringing the food from the kitchen. Our concept is based upon a “ home away from home” and hence we offer cottages, not rooms as in a hotel. We also follow the old colonial planters traditions. Hence, the staff who serve the cottages are referred to as ‘House boys’ and the chef is referred to as "Appu". We realize times have changed, but we have tried to maintain some of the old traditions, and request the house boys to be as attentive as they would have been in the days gone by. It is also Sri Lankan, if not Asian culture, to "serve" their guests and the boys would have left you alone if you had simply told them you would serve yourself. That is the hospitality we have been known for. When you mention water pressure we think you are referring to the “drizzle” shower head, since every time you open a tap the pressure pump kicks in. We will consider replacing the “drizzle” with the normal showerhead. Our online payment gateway is now running and that is how your payment was processed. We apologise that our new area guide was not in your room. Should you have asked the Manager for places to visit within the vicinity, he would have given you a run down on near by sites, including Lipton’s Seat, Addisham, Dowa, Maligawila, Ravana Ella, Diyaluma and Buduruwagala, among others which are all within an hours drive of Kelburne. At 4,500ft above sea-level, mist and clouds are very much part of the environment, as you would have noticed. We do have WiFi set up, but signals are weak in the cottages, although access is possible at the Manager’s Office. We wish you had filled in our evaluation form in detail or mentioned the deficiencies on the first day to the Manager who could have helped make the remaining days of your stay memorable! We will take your comments into consideration and ensure that you will recommend us on your next visit! Wishing you a Happy New Year! The Kelburne Mountain View Team

A beautiful place: up on the top of the mountain, with stunning views over the valleys, mountains, countryside. Tea plantations all around. Clouds, mist in the morning, opening up with the first sun rays. Birds, chirping. Beautiful lawns and flowers bordering the well kept

There is an email address on their website, you should contact them for the current rates. I believe that cottage is ~$215 per night during this time of year (sleeps up to 6, I think). That is exclusive of food costs (they have delicious food! the chef is fantastic!)
