We booked Artist cottage for one night. Pre-arrival stage to be appreciated for the good communication between from the host Avi. We came in a Starbus ( like a city ride) so we couldn't come down from Haputale town since that road was too small. Took another route down from Wellawaya road, We couldn't reach all the way to the cottage so parked the bus after 4/5 of the way and carried our stuff up ( wasn't a long way after that though ) The cottage is nestled providing an amazing view. The kitchen was well equipped with all utensils and even some condiments to prepare your own food. Cleanliness was good Bed linen was well provided. Reason for 3 star rating is because we experienced issues with the water supply that really ruined our total impression. On Arrival day we came at about 8.30pm after a few troubles with the route. We needed a good shower but the hot water was not working, so had to go for the cold shower. Following day we had no water at all, the host did assist in filling up the tank but it took way too long for the sediments to settle in the tank to provide clean water that we decided to depart without even a morning wash or cup of tea since we were already held back on the schedule.

To get to this place requires a bit of determination but your effort will be well rewarded; the accommodation s at the very end of a long, steep and rocky track. The rewards are breathtaking views and total seclusion surrounded by jungle. The food is plant-based and prepared by the lovely plant-based Avi!

My experience as an artist at this cottage for couple of days was unexplainable. Starting from the main road to the cottage on top of the mountain, when reached to top, the panoramic view opened all the way up to the southern coast,(not on a misty day), perfect climate, the pin drop silence within the jungle ( not in dawn and dusk, many tunes of birds,) and THE BEST VEIW OF A WINDOW AN ARTIST CAN EVER IMAGINE brought many hidden thoughts to paint away my best imaginations. Got an opportunity to Complete an art which I was craving for. Not to forget the comfort and great food provided by the friendliest staff. Will get back soon,. ! Dear Artists, wherever you are, if being to or living in Sri Lanka, don't miss this place. I reckon the true bliss of my stay,..! Ilham Sanoon - Fine line Artist. I've lived all my life in Sri Lanka and Travelled extensively. So I'm used to being in beautiful places, but the Artist Cottage truly is something else. Rugged to the core, Faraway from... anywhere, Awesome to behold. You could just sit by a window a look out at the magnificent view for hours. It's about 4500 feet up here and on a clear day you see the entire south and east of Sri Lanka right down to the sea. But even better is to explore. Rivers, streams, waterfalls, extremely rare birds and butterflies, more magnificent views, weird and wonderful trees, genuinely nice people etc etc etc.... I'm not into luxury hotels, so dont go here if that's what you want. but i did sleep like a log. The food is village style and right up my street. Be specific about the level of spiciness you can handle. We went in march. it was a bit wet. April, May, June are the best months though when it's drier.

This place us unique, charming and breathtaking.... we spend a couple of nights on our way from tea plantations to the cost and I wish we could have been there longer. There is a local family raking care of the olace, they dont speak peefect English but their food is amazing! If you travell with your own car make sure it is 4wd because you are not going to a village, you're gona get deep in the jungle, so better arrange a transport with them! The cottages have unbelievable views and there is a sound of a waterfall on the close distance peefect for relaxing.
