Welcome to Hopewell, an award winning self-catering lodge set in a superb, inspiring natural location on the water's edge of the magnificent Kenepuru Sound, Marlborough Sounds. Hopewell is a small and unique lodge that seems more like a luxury retreat. Choose from doubles, twins, triples, family rooms and cottages. All beds are made up with quality linen and duvets. Some have private bathrooms and most have sea views and a deck. There are rowboats and equipment for fishing, double and single kayaks, mountain bikes, SUP boards, swimming beaches, bush walks, sailing and boating trips available. Or you can relax in the hot spa pool, expansive gardens and hammocks. And while Hopewell is primarily a self-catering lodge, Lynley and Mike offer great coffees, home baking and gourmet pizzas, pies and pasta. There is a fully-equipped guest kitchen, luxurious lounge with logfire and many dining areas indoors and out.

Amazing stay at Hopewell Lodge. Mike, Lynley and their team are such welcoming hosts that give you all the information you need to utilise the lodge to its full potential. On arrival we were greeted with beautiful home baking. Hopewell is self catering, the cooking facilities are excellent, if you don’t feel like cooking then pizzas are available to purchase. We got the best Gluten free salmon pizza. Hopewell lodge has everything you need to stay entertained, We highly recommend utilising the equipment for $25 for your entire stay. Rooms are clean and warm. Hopewell Lodge is in a beautiful part of the sounds and so well run. Memorable experience - we will be back.

Four nights at this wonderful lodge in April. We had Mike collected us from Te Mahia rather than a 2 hour drive right around the Sound . The facilities are excellent and ideal for families. The communal kitchen is very well equiped and the open plan sitting room adjoining has very comfortable chairs, a fire box , plus dining tables and chairs. For a very moderate charge , we had the use of, a couple of Dinghy's, half a dozen Kayaks, Mountain bikes and fishing gear.Plenty of mussels and oysters for the taking. Lynley and Mike do pitsas and coffee and have essential stores if you need. There is a nine hole golf course 4 km up the road with clubs for hire. MIke and Lynley are fantastic hosts and nothing seems to be a bother to them. Our room was small but a very comfortable bed , and a shower and toilet etc. A lovely sunny verandah with a great view across the Sound tops of what was a great stay for us. Would certainly recommend to anyone wanting a break. Thanks Mike and Lynley.

This was our first experience of Marlborough Sounds and what an introduction! From the junction off the main Picton to Havelock Road, it is a 73km drive around the peninsula on a narrow road/track, so we saved ourselves about one and a half hours of that drive by arranging a water ferry from Te Mariah wharf across Kenepuru Sound directly to Hopewell- a service provided by the hosts. The location under the blue skies we experienced was simply stunning. The hosts are super friendly and for 25 NZD each provide you with use of paddle boards, mountain bikes and kayaks for the duration of your stay. Our room with private bathroom was very comfortable and it was fun meeting other guests when using the communal kitchen and/or sharing a mussel feast provided by the hosts one evening. Book this place for peace and relaxation in a beautiful location and you will not be disappointed.

When you stay at this lodge you see the owners constantly working to keep the property and kitchen clean. The rooms are clean and tidy as well as the shower rooms. It's a beautiful location with some great hikes to take in the view. Bring food as there isn't a grocery near by. They will make a great pizza and bread and have eggs on request. A $25 fee allows use of bikes, boat and kayaks for your stay.

From the first time we emailed Lynley about staying at Hopewell, she made us feel welcome and during our stay her warmth and attention has created the sense that guests at Hopewell are seen as potential friends, rather than simply customers. The young people staying at Hopewell on work exchange are equally hospitable and are obviously enjoying their time here and the interaction with guests. Lynley saw how disappointed I was to miss our Pelorus Mail Boat experience and suggested that we join her husband Mike in collecting mussels for a group dinner. Mike’s dry wit and willingness to share his knowledge about mussel farming and its history made this part of our stay really memorable and the group dinner of the fresh mussels & Lynley’s homemade bread unexpectedly included a birthday cake Lynley made for a guest. Hopewell is an experience not to be missed! If you come, do treat yourself to an extraordinary massage with Juli Stevens, just up the road at Raetihi Lodge.

It's a stunning piece of paradise. We drove to Te Mahia Bay and left our car there, called through to the lodge and Mike was there in minutes to collect us, a great priced transfer. Our room was small, the bed super comfy, the outdoor areas are where you want to be and there are plenty of options. Excellent kitchen to use, we ordered pizza both nights which were tasty and the coffee was great. We swam both mornings, a bit cool but refreshing and it was great to have the spa to jump into after - great idea thanks Lynley. A couple of walks, sun and reading and our time was sadly over. Next time we will stay longer and make use of the canoes and paddle boards which are great value, as is the lodge. A big thank-you to Lynley and Mike who are wonderful hosts, make great coffee, pizza and hot cross buns.

All I can say is “Wow”! We were amazed with the beautiful surroundings and the lovely amenities at this lodge. The hosts are amazing and they will do almost anything to make you comfortable and make your experience memorable. The comfy rooms, the amazing kitchen, the wood fires at night, the stargazing from the hot tub, the fresh baked bread and homemade pizzas, the coffee station, the hammocks to relax in, the walking trails, the bikes and kayaks are all that you will ever need to make your stay memorable and amazing. The remote location is quiet and private, with dark skies at night to see the Milky Way. Their new puppy, Tui, is a sweet and playful mascot, too. If you visit New Zealand, you have to stay here! We can’t wait to go back!

From the moment we arrived after a long winding road along Kenepuru Sound we were warmly welcomed with a coffee and an explanation of the facilities. We had the room with king bed and ensuite which I would recommend. We stayed 2 nights but would have had more had they been available. On the second morning I took one of the dinghies, for a nominal charge and went fishing bring back 3 snapper. One evening Mike did a mussel cook up with mussels in the shell plus deep fried breaded mussels with dipping sauces. I highly recommend Hopewell Lodge for a quiet few days away from the crowds.

More than 5 stars! Hopewell Lodge is a little oasis in the Marlborough Sounds. Peaceful, sunny and very relaxing.
Lynley & Mike are great hosts - how they still have so much energy and care for their guests after 25 years is incredible! Their lodge has really comfortable accommodation, super clean and modern shared kitchen and plenty of space to hang out, quite literally if you want in a hammock overlooking the bay!
Fancy being a bit active - kayaks, paddle boards, swimming, mountain bikes and bush walks are all there to do.
Or simply relax, enjoy home-cooked pizza and check out the southern night sky.
Thank you for a wonderful few days ..... i look forward to coming back!

We spent 6 nights at hopewell lodge and really enjoyed our time there!
It is a beautiful setting with lots of activities to do such as walks, bikes, kayaks, glow worms, spa and swimming!
On arrival we were greeted with a cup of tea and home made fresh carrot cake from Mike and Lynley.
They made amazing huge home made pizza for dinner on order, and delicious coffee with home made baking for morning tea.
The communal kitchen was well stocked and super clean! We meet heaps of really cool and friendly people in this space too.
Would highly recommend staying here!
