We enjoyed much about our 10 days at the Ker Awud in Hawassa; the central location, the courteous and welcoming staff, plumbing that is clean and works (mostly), the breakfast spread, and the views across central Hawassa. Perhaps some work-ons are: lights that enable reading, mosquito nets (they do get to the 6th floor), fresh linen. Top of our activities was afternoon walks down the Piazza to the lake front where we could enjoy a beer, or two, and watch the incredible sun set while being entertained by the bird life and Ethiopian dance music.

We were struggling to find somewhere that would fulfil the dietary requirements of our party and landed up in the Ker Awud's 2nd floor restaurant. Wide menu, served on a wide verandah overlooking the centre of town. A mixed fish plate with a couple of beers was around £6/head. Great value for a very reasonable meal, served by a very helpful waitress with, however, extremely limited English.

This hotel has not improved at all. The city was crowded with visitors because of a religious festival. Hotels were booked and I had to stay here unfortunately. Th shower had barely any water. The key card to my room almost never worked, had to go downstairs to get help. The restaurant service is simply unacceptable for a hotel that charged me a premium for my stay ($2000 birr). You can tell the staff lacks training and motivation to provide service. The room I chose was an executive room with air conditioning. However, the air conditioner did not work hard enough to cool the room. The lighting in the room was very poor
