The location is beautiful and we loved the monkeys. Food was good. The pool was questionable, we wound up going to a different location to swim. The round beds weren't comfortable and room service never came in-not even to take out trash or restock. I felt the price for an extra bed (roll away) was too much.
Let's always start with the good.... Beds were lovely and the resort quiet, at least at our end (I heard others complaining). Lunch/dinner food was excellent for regional Ethiopia. The pizza was better than the Haile's (and cheaper), and my husband raved about the chicken with mushroom sauce. I ate Ethiopian food and it was awesome. Plus the view of the lake, the cool breeze, the lovely trees in the paved lakeside restaurant/patio were beautiful. The proximity to the fish market, the main tourist desto, is a selling point too. The location at the quiet end of Hawassa - the walk down the cobbled street outside the resort and the enormous trees you can see were just lovely after crowded, dusty Addis. However on the downside.. We had paid for our room at their HQ in Addis but there was no promised including transfer at the airport and the hotel staff had no idea of our booking. At USD120 a night (riverside room at $110 plus $10 for child's bed), to find the grass between our water view room and the lake hadn't been mowed, that there was broken furniture at the seating area used exclusively by the handful of lakeside rooms, and to see power points hanging out of the wall (super fun with a small child) was disappointing. The pool was bright green - not sure if this is intentional - and there were uncovered drains, broken chairs and a lack of places to put your towels, sunscreen and belongings while swimming. (The pool was also frigid but not a fault of the hotel, just that the weather by the lake is rather cool, I suspect.) The other downside was that my husband was walking along one day and a big male monkey ran up and bit him on the calf. Lucky he was wearing jeans but it was a big shock as it could easily have been our young child. The monkeys and cats are everywhere and the monkeys, at least, are very brazen and not scare of humans at all. A big downside even for those of us who have had our initial rabies series! The worst thing here was the coffee. Absolutely appalling and you would do well to walk the 5km to the Haile and enjoy the views of an Ethiopian town and reward yourself with a great coffee and a bit of AC at the end of the trip. A nice one-off experience but I don't think we would come back - a pity as Hawassa is only a 5-hour drive from Addis. Lewi could be an in-demand long-weekend / vacation destination. But dealing with getting a room (that we'd already paid for), begging for an extra towel (to go with the extra bed we'd paid for), and all the other little niggles just make it not very relaxing at all. The staff are lovely but management needs to do a far better job of training them.…
The staff.......the desk manager.Service great. The room, well i used a third party to reserved and the manager still showed me my room and another room. I ended up with a better choice, what a surprise. Location is very very relaxing. As always any place I have visited has something that I did not like, however, how can I not like mother nature. She has placed monkeys on the property. The monkeys were probably there a long time before the resort, it's their home. So beware they can be swift to get you food, lol. so eat fast.
Terrific staff & Hospitality. Exceptional job. Great experience for the whole team. Unforgettable moments. Fair Price. Thank You! Lewi Staff members Specially the Marketing Manager Mr. Wubshet.......Lewi a palce to be!!!!
It has the best view to lake Hawassa, excellent room quality and most of all it has the best service. You also have great time eating breakfast with "Gureza". Standard rooms include most things free. Swimming, Steam & Sauna. Best times
