Why not escape in the mountains around 1.5 hrs out of Panama city? It is a 150 hectare finca and where we have our Mamallena eco lodge. We will be focusing on organic permaculture agricultural techniques to run the finca as well. It has 4 hectares of lemons, and a huge array of other fruit tree orchards as well as vegetable and herb fields, two streams with natural swimming pools.

We stayed in the Eco Lodge for two days, and wish it was more. It's a perfect place to chill, hang in a hammock, do some yoga and take it slow. We are outdoorsy, so we chose a hillside cabin. No glass windows, just a large opening to the outside, we absolutely loved it. It's like sleeping outside, but with your own shower and bathroom. Yes, you'll have to put the used TP in a basket, which is not unusual in off-the-beaten-path places, but apparently a surprise to some people who are more of the Hilton crowd (judging by some rare surprising non 5-star reviews here). In February, the dry season, the were zero bugs around, which was a very nice surprise for us. On our hikes we were joined by "dos compañeros". The dogs from the lodge will join you for the full trip, so treat that as a bonus rent-a-dog that's actually free of charge. Perfect, if you miss your own pooch. For the waterfall hike, MapsMe has the waterfall marked, and it helped us locate it. We also hiked the ridge opposite the lodge,. Even though dos compañeros have ditched us part way through, the smile of the farmer was more than an adequate reward for the $1 p/person fee for the access to private cow paths on the hill. We wish we stayed longer to explore Anton valley, which is only 20 min away. Make sure you cross verify it via different mapping services as some would send you on longer roundabout trip. Or chat with your hosts who will be very helpful.

They‘re such friendly people, helped us with everything we needed.. The food is amazing, you can normally choose between veggi, fish and meat. They just use regional products, or plant some stuff by there own. Our room was really nice, you can just go outside and having a bath in the amazing riverpool. Your in the middle of the nature it was so pretty there! You can listen to the birds and exploring the nature around. We also met there such nice travellers, and enjoyed spending time with them. Going by car there is no problem, we really liked the streets through the jungle (: You can reach en valle de Anton about an 25 min ride By car. Just in case you don’t have a car, its not that easy to go there i think. But they‘re offering some shuttles (: So no worries, go there! Thank you for everything, we definitely recommend you ❤️.

My partner and I recently spent two and a half weeks in Panama, and wanted to ensure that we visited the best possible places while we were there. We had booked three nights at the Eco Lodge prior to arriving and were so looking forward to spending some time in the mountains and away from the bustling heat of the capital city. After spending one night, we immediately booked a fourth. We absolutely LOVED the Eco Lodge. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and tranquil. We felt welcomed and wanted right off the bat, and Brandon, Maylin, and their beautiful daughter Isabel really made the experience feel like a family affair. If you have any questions about your trip and what you should be doing, there is a wealth of knowledge at the Eco Lodge. We were fortunate in being able to pick Brandon's brain, and planned out a trajectory for the remainder of our travel that ended up being absolutely perfect. We stayed in some of the most beautiful hostels and saw everything we wanted to see thanks to Brandon's insights. The food is incredible and home-cooked, and they use ingredients that they source from their own property. There is an abundance of fruit trees, fresh eggs from the chickens they keep, and did I mention that this is a haven for vegans and vegetarians? Whether you're plant-based or not, the food is absolutely wonderful. You can eat every meal at the hostel, from breakfast to dinner, and the price is reasonable for the product and the effort that goes into the meals. The rooms are clean, cozy, and feel intentionally put together with thought and the desire to make guests feel welcome and at home. The love and passion that the owners and staff put into the Eco Lodge is visible in the way they take care of the facilities and the surrounding nature, and the way that they interact with guests. We stayed for four nights and ate every meal at the Eco Lodge. Upon check out, it had cost us only $29 each per day for our lodgings AND all our meals! There's a river pool for swimming, hammocks for relaxing, hikes for adventuring, and the beautiful town of El Valle to explore. Whether you want to spend time in a charming town or immerse yourself in nature, this is the place to do it. If you're going to Panama, you should also be going to the Eco Lodge. What are you waiting for?

Just to add to the other rave reviews of Mamallena's Eco-Lodge. We've stayed in Mamallena in Panama City, which was great, but this escape to the rain forest of La Laguna hills is magical. Thank goodness the other hotels in Valle de Anton were booked, so we chose here. You want to chill? Breath pure air? In a seriously gorgeous forest environment, with a river swim hole, great team of guys running the project (and they all cook up a storm!), loads of options to explore. Oh, OK, we spent a bit more on the private cabin at which point I just smile and think - "well, how fortunate were we?" Hilton / Sheraton / Barceló tourists need not apply ;-) ... or maybe they should - to see how it can be ...

Such a great time here for three nights. Brandon, Eileen and Vlad make you feel right at home and help you with any questions. The hostel is a great place to relax in the middle of the mountains and forest. Dinners were great and definitely try the home made wine!
