basic but next door to a great pub. A good place to break up the walk along Hadrians Wall but not the best hostel in terms of welcome or cleanliness. The breakfast was ok thankfully still quite full from meal at the pub the night before.

We stayed at the YHA Once Brewed as a group of 6 adults on a cycling trip following the Hadrian's Wall route. I was driving the support car and found the hostel easily with my satnav. The guys on the route got lost trying to find it because it isn't as close to the actual cycling route as we thought,... More

After a long walk carrying our tent, we looked at the area, the campsite, the pub and the YHA. It was 7.15 at night and we didnt fancy putting the tent up. We popped our head round the YHA and a lovely chap said we could have the last bunk bed ! A god send. We had clean sheets, comfy... More

This review is for the record – the hostel is now closed but will reopen in 2017 in part of the new National Park Centre to be built on the site. The former hostel was purpose built (1960s) by the Northumberland National Park Authority for use by the YHA on this site well situated for the Roman Wall and set... More

First time we have stayed in a Youth Hostel and we were pleased with our decision. Very good value for money. Functional and clean with decent mattresses. Shower facilities ok-plenty of hot water. We didn't have meals so can't comment. Fantastic location!!

We stayed at the YHA Once Brewed for 3 nights in August, bed were incredibly comfortable. V.close to a good section of Hadrian's Wall - walking distance to Sycamore Gap (the iconic tree in Robin Hood Price of Thieves) Good selection of food and cooking facilities were good The hostel is just about to under-go renovation so hoping for some... I Stayed Mon-Fri and my very first stay at a Once Brewed YHA, on arrival I made myself a member online for £15 per year so my stay was reduced to £7 per night, excellent bed with clean sheets & quilt, kitchen with all facilities to cook, microwaves, toasters, ovens, fridges etc, tv lounge and ample parking. Excellent location within... More

Really enjoyed our stay, made to feel most welcome. Please bear in mind this is a youth hostel; it's clean and functional, what you expect - great but not five star, it's not meant to be. We had a four bunk room, loads of space and storage for our gear.

Having heard that the hostel will be re-built in a few months I won't comment too much on the building and facilities, needless to say the number of showers and toilets for the number of visitors isn't enough. Staff were fine and helpful. Breakfast was a bit disappointing. You can have seven items, but only one of each. I only... More
