We were in France, for the wrong reason, and were booked into this hotel by another person. En-route one of my tyres delaminated and I needed some help getting a replacement. Sally was immediately on the phone trying to source a replacement tyre. I had a short drive, about 1 hour into Le Man, the next morning and new tyres... More

This hotel is one of the best we have stayed in - anywhere, ever. Sally and her team made us most welcome; and a particular mention must go to Christophe, who was most charming. The hotel has been beautifully renovated: the bedrooms are exquisite and the public rooms demonstrate the flair, creativity and sympathetic nature of the thought and planning... More

The hotel is rightly very popular amongst racing enthusiasts. The bar/restaurant is decorated in motoring memorabilia and photos. A great environment for a relaxing evening reminiscing about the good good old days of real heroic racing drivers. The rooms are equally good, with great attention to detail. Book early to avoid disappointment.

We stayed here for one night en route to Le Mans. Not only is the accommodation superb with a super comfortable bed and room, but the hotel has a great bar and restaurant. The bar was a tribute to motor racing with great photos and memorabilia. Outside there are tables and it too is a great place to sit and... More

There can be few pleasures greater than sitting in the sun with a cold lager or a glass of wine outside this lovely hotel and watching various classic and supercars arriving in the square. Well of course there are greater pleasures but not if you are a classic petrol head like me. This our second visit was not disappointing. The... More

The room we were allocated was in the main building and lovely. It was very big and beautifully decorated with everything you could possibly need provided. The staff were friendly and helpful and the outside pool lovely and warm. Having a couple of drinks on the pavement outside the bar before dinner and watching the world go by was very... More

While the hotel changed hands a year or so ago it retains its family run style with several of the staff having been there 30 years! This plus a thorough makeover makes it a very comfortable and relaxed place to stay while in the Loir valley area. Of course, like many visitors i was with a group of car enthusiasts... More

We did not stay at this Hotel we were in the region for the Le Mans 24 hour race and this Hotel has great links to this world famous race. We had a excellent meal in their restaurant from their Euro 49 menu. We visited the hotel last year but could not get a table, but this year we sampled... More

We booked to stay for one night on our way home as my husband especially wanted to stay here due to its motor racing history. We received a friendly welcome after a long journey and were given a helpful hand with our luggage. We were allocated a very nice room with a wonderfully comfortable bed. First impressions on entering were... More

I have been looking forward to this hotel for months, and it didn't let me down. A fantastic hotel with so much Le Mans history, very nostalgic, good comfortable rooms, very good food and wine, dog friendly, and the owners and staff are very welcoming . Also on arrival 6 old Bentleys outside. A must place to stay for any... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated on the northern edge of the Loire Valley, the Hotel de France, in La Chartre-sur-le-Loir, with its ivy covered Art Deco facade, offers chic and luxurious rooms. With a sun drenched terrace, a superb restaurant, bar, inviting swimming pool and gardens that back onto the Loir River, the hotel serves as a comfortable and relaxing base from which to explore the countless delights this region has to offer. The Hotel de France, famous for its long association with the teams, drivers and cars of the Le Mans 24 hours race, overlooks the main square of the charming town of La Chartre-sur-Le-Loir, in the Sarthe department of the Pays de la Loire region in north-western France. It has excellent access to the main Autoroutes, heading north to nearby Le Mans, south to Tours and Bordeaux, and east to Paris. The airport at Tours and several main line train stations are also close by. Used as a destination of choice for leaders of state, film stars and motor sport royalty, the hotel has welcomed the President of France, President Kennedy's family, Steve McQueen, Sir Stirling Moss OBE and a regular guest for the Le Mans 24 hours, Derek Bell MBE. These are just a few names from a long list of personalities that have enjoyed the hotel's hospitality over the years. The Hotel de France has been privately and independently owned for over 100 years. The beautiful Art Deco style building boasts many traditional features, both inside and out. An extensive and sympathetic internal refurbishment was undertaken in 2014 following a change of ownership. Each of our 22 individually designed bedrooms, finished to the highest standards, have a chic and luxurious look, with modern en-suite facilities. Residents can also enjoy our heated riverside swimming pool and garden. Our restaurant, Le Relais de Ronsard, is the ideal place for a long, leisurely lunch, a romantic candlelit dinner for two or a family celebration. Enjoy delicious seasonal dishes, prepared by our chefs, who have served at the hotel for over 25 years. The entire team at the Hotel de France look forward to offering you a warm welcome and to providing a memorable stay. ... more   less
