Shinagawa, Gotanda
In Shinagawa, an office district shares space with luxury residential buildings and the scene is constantly changing with rapid development. Ikedayama park and Togoshi park are great places to see beautiful traditional Japanese gardens with ponds, as well as enjoy the changing seasons. Shinagawa was a post and a port town during the Edo era and the lavish old Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples at Shinagawa and Ebara are very popular. It's a great place to get in touch with the old Edo atmosphere on a pleasure boat cruising along the canal. The neighboring area around Gotanda station is a study in modern contrasts filled with unique restaurants and a lively nightlife.

The location is very convenient, easy access to Gotanda station in the Yamanote line not too far from Shibuya, Shinagawa and Shinjuku stations. The neighbourhood is quiet. The hotel room I got was very small, but had ac, a descent size washroom. Breakfast was not bad, simple. One of things that i didn't like was the smoking people in front of the hotel.

we stayed as a group of 3 for 3 nights at Arietta. It is a convenient 5-7 min walk from Gotanda station, which is on the Yamanote line, only 2 stops from Shinagawa which is a major transport hub. There are restaurants, shops, and a 7/11 near by. Our room feels a little small for 3, but it is very clean, and supplies were well stocked. Staff was helpful and polite. There is continental breakfast in the morning, nothing fancy but has good coffee and croissants. Excellent price for a convenient location in Tokyo.

This Italian eatery is about a 10 minute walk from Gotanda Station in the direction of Shinagawa on what was dubbed the SONY street as Sony buildings, since torn down in a redevelopment, were there. I have been eating here since the restaurant opened. The staff are courteous, the menu not fancy but offering tasty dishes, the wine selection. There is an open kitchen; sometimes I sit at the counter to watch the cooking. I enjoy the vongole and a buttered spinach or simple salad choice. I am writing about the Trattoria not the hotel(nothing to write home about).

Small single rooms with a nice size bathroom including tub and shower. The Suites are much larger with window views. Noise level is average. Buffet breakfast consisting of coffee, juice, salad, rolls (sweet and savory). Many coffee shops close by as well as bakeries if you choose that option. Located close to the Gotanda Station. Rooms were very clean and functional. No frills but hair dryer, toothbrush, razor and various soaps are all provided.
