One of the worst hostels I've been in. First of all - the pool table in their pictures is broken so you cant use it. If you go in winter like I did, there was no blankets provided and no heating... I had to wear all my clothes at once to stay warm. The communal bathrooms were filthy as was... More

My wife and I stayed at this hostel in March 2011, just after the earthquake hit. When I contacted the hostel they said everything was fine and the city was operating as usual and the hostel would still be open and running as normal. So we decided to go... on the first day of our arrival we found out that... More

One thing I will say for this hostel is that it is the cheapest in Tokyo. Without question. We stayed in a private twin with our own bathroom and toilet for way, way cheaper than anywhere else could offer. If you're not all at fussy about cleanliness, availability of staff or a quiet location, then by all means, this place... More

1) In winter the rooms get really cold, I think you should bring your own blankets or just really warm winter clothing for bed. Including 2-3 pairs of socks! I had my own room and I was freezing most nights which has thrown out my sleep pattern a fair bit. 2) You will get a culture shock if you're from... More

tokyo hostel has cheap dorms and expensive private rooms.. we have stayed there 3 years in a row now and compared with 2008 the owners have really let this place run down... the kitchen is in a state of disrepair.... there is a sign on the oven saying "don't use the broken knob otherwise it will cause a fire" why... The Hostel is located within traveling distance to all the sights. The rooms are very nice i traveled with a group so we didnt have to share any of the rooms with people we didnt know. The showers were great en the beds were japanese style, a small matrass on the floor. There were some common areas like a roofterrace, a... More

Stayed in a twin share room with a friend. The room was a decent size and came with en-suite bathroom. There was a fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, wardrobe, free wi-fi and television in the room. You're also given a DVD player and they have a wall of DVD's that you can borrow and watch. The staff were very friendly and... More

We could not believe the cost of accommodation for a family in Tokyo. There were 6 of us (hubby, myself, our 3 kids aged 13, 12 and 9 years and our son's 13yo friend who came along for the ride). After extensive research we settled on Tokyo Bakpak in a 6 berth room with private bathroom. The room itself is... More

I booked a single room in this hostel as I had read good reviews on tripadvisor stating that it was a clean place to stay. I so cannot agree! The bathroom area was filthy! The toilet stunk of pee and had weird splashes and stains on the wall. I really don't want to know what they were. Yuk! It seemed... More

the decor was weird though. felt like I was in 1988. staff was not that friendly. the night time girl was rude. very close to ueno station but not as close to asakusa as I imagined when I visited the website. there's a lovely chinese restaurant nearby. very tasty food. bear in mind the distance from minowa station. if you're... Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighborhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
