This place is super convenient. Close to JR Ueno station, Ueno shopping street and plenty of yakitori and ramen eateries. The room is a little small, but is clean and comfoetable. We enjoyed our 2 nights stay and i highly recommended this place to travellers.

No muss, no fuss . just a very clean , modern and basic hotel . The rooms are not spacious but they lack of NOTHING ! One would think that this hotel was created for business people. We are a family of four therefore we took two rooms one night before our flight back home and we were looking for... More

Spent a night here after arriving into Tokyo via the Skyliner from NRT, and the hotel was ideal for that purpose. Room was clean and comfortable, with air con. Staff was friendly, breakfast was good (I paid a small supplement for delicious rice porridge). The hotel's location is also great for exploring Ueno. It's right near the market streets and... More

I traveled to Tokyo for the annual Tokyo Marathon and I was searching for a hotel that can fulfil my following needs: walking distance to the Yamanote Line; single bed room; and reasonable cost. Hotel Sardonyx Ueno fulfilled my criteria. Although I have booked a single room, the room is not that small and is large enough to fit me... More

Very accomodating, great location, convenient for transport, great stay in a well maintained and clean building. We stayed in a smoking room and despite the ash tray and matches the room still looked very clean with only the slightest trace of a smoke smell. We had asked for a room high up with a good view and the view couldn't... More

The Hotel is average with not much offer, the best thing is great location and shopping place is walking distance, the air-con in room just provide heating only, you just can adjust Lower Hot or Highest Hot. It's very stuffy when stay longer in room, luckily the window could be open around one inch. Just a small thing, both waitresses... More

One of the male staff is very impatient with answering the questions. I felt not respected and very disappointed with the service. Even though I only stay for one night, I really don't think it's a proper way to treat the guest.

It was a good stay but it was a bit hard to find the hotel. I left the train at a stay that was slightly further (10 minutes walk) so it was difficult to find it. The hotel room is just like most of the ones I've seen in Japan, small. After I found the hotel I realized that it... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighborhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
