The hotel is in the district of Ikebukuro. It’s not in the heart of Tokyo, but after extensive research my wife and I decided it was more appealing to stay just outside of the busier and noisier districts. It’s always nice to come home to a quiet hotel for some much needed rest after a day of sightseeing. Finding our hotel though, would prove to be an adventure in its own. The street names are all in Japanese, and our map to our hotel was in English. Finding someone who speaks English to help with directions was futile. Thankfully there is a giant map of the district adjacent to the train station. After reviewing the map and coordinating it with our own, we took our best guess and headed off in the direction we believed our hotel is going to be. After going up and down numerous side streets we stumbled upon “Hotel Grand City” and we could not have been more relieved. The staff spoke broken English, but it’s more than enough to get by. The are very warm and friendly. Upon entering the room we were not at all surprised to see how teeny tiny it is. You take 2 small steps and you are right beside the bed with only enough room to turn around and go back towards the door. There is a washroom. Again very small, but it had a deep tub with a nice shower with plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The toilet seat comes installed with a bidet which was also an added bonus. The bed was hard as a rock unfortunately. This was the only negative about the room other than the size. But for only 80.00 Canadadian per night (booked off expedia) we weren't complaining.
Even though the staff speak limited English they were reakky wonderful. They assisted us with securing tickets to see a soccer game at The Nissan stadium, and when ever we saw them in the lobby the would always bow and say hello. Incredible people.
All in all we enjoyed our stay here. The price was right, location was decent and 5 star service

If you're staying in a Japanese Business Hotel, chances are that you are aware that you are forgoing many of the features of a typical western style hotel. (Large Rooms, Pool, etc.)
Our twin room has two single beds, yukata, slippers, a desk, a kettle, fridge and a TV. The bathroom is the standard cubicle bathroom with the bidet toilet.
Beds were okay, the mattress was not overly soft, but the pillows were a little flat. Not sure if there is an option to change pillow type.
Location wise, the hotel is walking distance from JR Ikebukuro station and is down the end near Sunshine 60 and Tokyu Hands.
There are some great little ramen bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and a number of convenience stores within walking distance.
The room was clean, there are vending machines on each floor, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The area around the station and down to Sunshine dori has lots of shops, cinemas, department stores and restaurants.

Room
It's not big and good enough to fit luggage and simply stay for bed and shower.

Location
It's a bit hidden in Ikebukuro as it's not on main road but then once you know how to get there you will find it actually enjoys superb location and convenience. Just 5 mins walk from JR Ikebukuro station.

Convenience
The 24-hr grocery and many nice local restaurants are just walks nearby.

Would recommend this to everyone looking for affordable budget.

The way hotel officer call guest should be more polite. I didn't expect to touch on my shoulder to call me. I think Japanese people have more good manner than this.
And I don't want to stay here again next time.

Stinky, old! Horrible experience staying here. It is well located but the whole hotel reeks of cigarette smoke. Also the internet does not work! Was very disappointed, most horrible experience at a hotel ever. Would never, ever stay here again! The bedspreads reek of cigarette smoke and the rooms are tiny! We ended up moving hotels because it was so horrible!

This place is clean and quiet, a place just nice for solo traveller like me. Luckily, a friend accompanied me to the hotel but we definitely agreed that the room is very small. As it's my last one night in tokyo (a brief stay) and with the price, I dont mind that much. I did a brief walk around the area (back and forth the station) and it's not difficult to find the place so long as you remember the Mizuho Bank and the bowling alley. There is a free hot / cold water/ tea dispenser just at the lift lobby as well as ice cube dispenser. Very convenient for me. The staff can understand what I wanted and did speak in english to me. You can request for wireless router from the counter to enjoy the free wifi in the room.

Anywhere you travel, location is very important. Tokyo is already a great city, but not knowing the exact geographic location of this hotel before choosing it was a gamble. You can look at maps and location all you want, but the true test is when you get there, I was extremely pleased with the location, it was a few, easy, flat, walking blocks from the Ikebukuro train station. It's a relatively major station, so all the connections needed to get around Tokyo will be convenient.

The hotel itself is surrounded by lots of entertainment including a bowling alley, arcade, Toyota Amlux showroom, tons of shopping and eateries.

The staff was top notch, trying their best to speak English, typically well enough to address all accommodations and needs. No problem with billing.

The rooms were quite small, but I'm not surprised...it's Japan. However, the rooms were very clean and comfortable. I would much rather stay in this small, clean, and comfortable hotel than a large dirty Western 3 star.

I really can't say enough good things - you won't be disappointed!

This was our hotel for the majority of our stay. They were nice to let us add a couple extra nights at the low price of our original booking.
They also have free adaptor a you can borrow for a 1000 yen deposit which you recurve back upon turning the adaptor back in.
They held my luggage until check in and when we left they called us a cab.
