Its centered close to mjor hub stations and is close to local train. Some say it can be noisy but I never had that problem. Would stay again and I am later this year. Toshi is very responsive and henrique is kind and got me from the train station. Nice kebab shop underneath and lots of cool shops around.
I was in Japan recently for two weeks and stayed at the Koenji twice. The location of this place is just great, 1-2 mins walk from JR Koenji and there are tons of restaurants nearby for you to choose. My room was number 1. Though the room and bathrooms might be a bit small but it's just nice for backpacking. The amenities provided was fine. There maybe some grime here and there in the bathroom but it's well-maintained. One thing fascinating is that The Koenji practices green living so we have separate bins for rubbish. Self-cleaning of amenities used is encouraged since this is a share house. My experience at the Koenji was fine. Just that it maybe noisy at night due to the bars and eateries nearby operating until 1am-2am.
It's not worth saving a few dollars from staying at this subpar guest house. 1. It is fine that the bathrooms are small, but you really wouldn't want to stay any second longer since it's a mess and mouldy at the corners. Let alone hair clogging the drains. 2. I don't think the owner tries to maintain the place on a regular basis. It's dusty, and I had allergic reactions. 3. Rooms are small but acceptable. However, I can hear a vendor yelling and loud music from downstairs late until 1:30-2pm. No way to feel restful. 4. I was charged at a different rate (extra 1,000 Yen) since I got in after 11pm. This was nowhere specified in the website nor email correspondence. I was informed only after payment is made. The owner tried to brushed it off by simply stating that the website is done a while ago. Dude, in the age of e commerce, web content accuracy speaks louder than anything else. Do not stay at the Koenji. Period.…
Bed bugs... bed bugs.... bed bugs!!!!!!! After you stay here, you will get so many kiss marks on your skin.As I was so. Except it,the location is so nice.Koenji is cool spot in Tokyo, and it's easy to go to central Tokyo by JR line.
My gf and I travelled throughout Japan for 2.5 weeks. We started our trip in Tokyo and ended in Tokyo. Both times we stayed at the Koenji. It was a great location. 1 minute walk door to door to JR Koenji station which is still considered inside the metropolitan Tokyo area so you can purchase a JR rail day pass if needed. Some cool shops around in the shopping arcade, lots of good food places for a quick bite to eat, supermarket nearby, and many convenience stores. Double room was small considering the bed basically took up the whole room, but it was still comfortable. It's a little cold at night but there is a room heater and blanket was warm enough. We would stay there again, especially for the price!
