Haneda, Kamata
Haneda / Kamata is known for its airport with many hotels popping up with the increase in international flights. It’s also an area that offers many shrines and temples with ancient origins including Anamori Inari Shrine or Ikegami Honmonji temple which is visited by more than 300,000 people in October's Buddhist Oeshiki festival. The area around Kamata station is lined with restaurants and is lively until late at night. In particular, it’s known for the large collection of tasty gyoza specialists.

Two of us stayed here a few days ago for one night on a layover before taking another flight. It was a short, easy walk from the Kamata station. Check in was very quick and straightforward. Check out was even more so! Just drop your key cards in a box and go. There are lifts to the rooms, of which there are several designated non-smoking floors. Our room was small but functional. Bed was very soft, but the pillows were a bit thin (only one each side of the bed). The bathroom was cosy but the shower had great water pressure and was lovely and hot. There were some nice little touches that boosted the experience for us - origami cranes on the bed, robes and slippers provided, and chilled glasses in the fridge for drinks. Also in the bathroom cleaning products were provided, including razors, cotton buds, face cloths and toothbrushes. As other people have pointed out, if you’re travelling with a lot of luggage you’re gonna struggle for space, but we managed to get two medium/large suitcases into the room and just about managed to get around without tripping over them. If we were to do another layover in Tokyo, I’d be very happy to stay here again! 5*

I needed to book a hotel due to a long layover at Handea airport recently. I chose APA hotel in Kametaki-Higashi due to the fact that it was close to the metro line that serves Haneda airport. It is also close to the metro line that serves Tokyo station, etc. It is a clean large hotel. The breakfast is affordable and pretty delicious as well. The rooms are small but normal for the price I paid. The only complaint I have is the pillows...they are the straw kind and VERY uncomfortable. I should have asked the reception for a normal pillow, but did not. I got poor sleep there due to that reason.

I stayed 3 nights at APA Kamataeki Higashi (East). Check in was very easy and staff were pleasant. The room was very small but still very clean and functional. There was a large TV on the wall and a desk to work at. There was also what I think was a humidifier. In the minimal space, I placed the luggage stand at the end of the bed and had enough room to be comfortable. The bed was comfortable and not too firm like many Japanese bedding tend to be. I didn't see an in room safe but never encounter security issues in Japan. Refridge worked well and kept my drinks nice and cold. Air conditioning kept the room at a comfortable temperature. The bathroom had a deep soaking tub, sink and a washlet toilet. Wifi was never a problem. There were many great shops and restaurants nearby and the hotel is situated a comfortable walking distance between either the JR Kamata Station or Keikyu Kamata Station. I will stay here again.
