We had an excellent stay at Comuna Crew, and would absolutely recommend it to solo travellers or couples. Madoca and Tom are wonderful hosts -- managing to be both (1) super available to provide recommendations or help (in our case, with an incoming typhoon), or (2) to give you access to the things you need and let you do your own thing. They've also created a very communal environment that helps connect you with other travellers and their neighbourhood. That includes free intro Japanese lessons, a take-along menu to allow you to order food from an all-Japanese restaurant nearby (have the Udon hot pot), and a general energy that helps bring people together. After all that, the core stay is solid. Our bed was comfy and large; there was good breakfast and amazing teas; shower and washrooms good quality. They also encourage eco-friendly practices (without being pushy about it) which is nice in Japan where recycling and similar is less common. All in all, a great place to stay.…
This is a great place with great hosts. Walked few minutes to the subway. Nice neighborhood. Was there for only one day, otherwise I would have loved to attend one of their Japanese speaking session to brush up my “Nihongo”.
This is not a usual place you will forget. What makes it special is that Tom and Madoca live there, connect with guests and at least for duration of your stay you may feel to be the part of the community they create. We had a chance to take part in a local event as volunteers, that was an interesting experience.
Staying at Tom's and Madoka's guest house was definitely the best accommodation of our 3-week Japan travel and one of the highlights of our time in Tokyo. The house is very cosy, clean and comfortable. We instantly felt like we were at home. The hosts are very friendly and helpful, offering insider tips about the local surroundings and Tokyo. The Japanese lessons in the morning during the delicious home made (and healthy) breakfast were very useful. It was also a good opportunity to get to know the other guests and it was fun to help Tom and Madoka teaching English to local Japanese people as volunteers. If I ever return to Tokyo, I would definitely stay there again!
Tom and Madoca have been the best Airbnb hosts I have ever had. Great place, amazing healthy breakfast, awesome japanese lessons by Madoca. Hosts provide with anything you need for your stay in Tokyo. House is in a residential area close to a nice japanese food/street market. 711 is also close by. Subway station about <10 min walk. I was able to attend a couple community events, such an awesome experience. Guys thanks for having me there for the few days. Will definitely return
