The hotel is pretty small, well, no surprise for Tokyo area hotel. It is a station north of JR Tokyo station (took around 5 mins travel between stations). It costed me USD$125 for two night. This room is clean, and just 5 mins walk from JR Kanda station. However, the staffs English is not good, please us single words and simple sentence to communicate with staffs. More

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2008

We only stayed one night here, at the end of a week in Tokyo. We chose this place because it was near our other hotel and it was pretty cheap. We weren't expecting much for the price, but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was small, but not tiny, and it had a small self-contained bathroom inside (it felt like an aeroplane bathroom, but it was all part of the experience). The front desk staff spoke quite good English and were friendly, helpful and professional.

Its location is great, a 5 minute walk from Kanda station, which meant that the train journey to Ueno and then to Narita was easy and stress-free. The area around the hotel is very easy to get confused in, at least for us because we only stayed one day, everything looked the same to us and the roads were organised in strange parallels and diagonals. Not the fault of the hotel of course.

Breakfast was cheap, with the choice of Western or Japanese. My husband had Western and I had Japanese. I'd never...

Staying in Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda

Neighborhood Profile
Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.
