Cristal Azul is the perfect destination for those looking to step off the beaten path and experience what Costa Rica was like before the world arrived. A totally private property with no public access, guests enjoy 180’ panoramic ocean views and the ultimate in barefoot luxury in a rustic setting. Prepare to unplug, unwind, and get lost in paradise! Great times are had here and memories of a lifetime are created! Four cozy "cabinas" guarantee there is never a crowd; each is equipped with AC, ceiling fans, screened doors that let in the ocean breeze and sound of the surf below, hot water, outdoor garden showers, fine linens, Raw Botanicals organic bath products, and the most impressive views in the area. An oversized, open air Rancho provides a luxe “Glamping” experience with an honor bar and billiards table as well as dining and lounge area ample enough for all guests. The vanishing edge pool overlooks six miles of undeveloped beach and provides a front row seat to the most amazing stargazing under the canopy of the Milky Way! A full typical Costa Rican breakfast is served daily and a chef prepares dinner nightly for guests in the Rancho upon demand. I genuinely cannot say enough nice things about Cristal Azul or the hosts, Zene and Henner. It's more like staying with old friends you just met then staying at a hotel. Bonus points for the really adorable and friendly dogs that will visit from time to time and for the fact that the hotel has POTABLE WATER. Really. And an ice maker. Luxury! The property itself is lovely, and the rooms are very comfortable. Personally, we were very fond of the palapa with shady comfortable seating, and a really marvelous pool table (which my husband totally took advantage of - it turns out he wasn't exaggerating about his pool skills). The pool itself is as lovely as all of the pictures portray it. The staff is beyond terrific. Note - you need to seat yourself before they will bring out your breakfast, it took us a couple of days to figure that out. The food was fantastic, I'm still drooling over this fantastic sausage they served, and the coffee was ridiculously good. DO listen to Zene when she tells you to rent an SUV, the roads are rather steep and rocky leading up to the hotel. You absolutely must have one. Lunch, dinner, snacks, etc. are easily obtained down the hill at the companion restaurant Locos Cocos. Seriously, EVERYTHING here is good. There is a very good reason people love this place = everything on the menu is fabulous. Henner's hot sauce is an absolute legend, and the fish is incredibly fresh. Have a cold beer, some ceviche, and look out on beautiful, unspoiled Playa San Miguel. If you are an all day nibbler, as I am, bring some snacks out with you to your room, but do keep them well sealed. Amazing bird/wildlife watching, incredibly peaceful, just a wonderful place to escape from the world. Bring binoculars, you will absolutely use them. Don't bring much else. This is absolutely a bathing suit and cover up kind of place. Relaxed, friendly, and ridiculously accommodating, I truly can't recommend it highly enough. Zene and Henner are the most accommodating and gracious hosts, we really look forward to returning,

We are so glad we found this lovely hotel removed from it all. Zene was a gracious host and we enjoyed Henner's delicious ceviche next to the ocean. We were truly able to disconnect and often were the only people enjoying the gorgeous infinity pool with ocean views. Playa San Miguel is stunning and it's an unbelievable experience to enjoy a beach with so few people on it. We will definitely come back!

If you‘re searching for a peaceful place for recovering from everydays hurry Cristal Azul is just perfect. Your mobile phone will hardly have Network and wifi might not work all day - but you won‘t even miss it. The view out of the cabinas, the Rancho or the pool it simply amazing. Your day starts with a oveanview breakfast. You have the opportunity for many different activities but honestly enjoying the landscape is enough. Anyway, Zene will help you with everything - activities as well as Restaurants or advices for the quickest way. Doing that she instectively knows what you‘re looking for and what type of vaccation you want to spend. The luxury at Cristal Azul is not comparable to Michelin-Star Standard - it‘s better. It‘s the view and the surroundings, the Environment and the animals, the lovely small cabinas, the incredible privacy and it‘s Zene and Hener, who are really loveable hosts and do their best to make your stay unforgettable. Note: the Road to Cristal Azul is more like a „path“, I would recommend a 4WD for that. Note: Zene and Hener have a bunge of lovely dogs which I really loved. If you‘re afraid of dogs you might have to figure something out with Zene in advance.

There is no place like the Cristal Azul- it is well worth the travel time and slightly challenging roads to reach the hotel. It is placed on a cliff with the most incredible views of the ocean from above. While there we saw lizards, iguanas, monkeys, exotic birds and even saw some whales one morning from breakfast. I'm not sure I've ever been so relaxed. We enjoyed the breakfasts each morning and then lounged between the beach and the pool all day- enjoying incredible meals and cold drinks at the LocosCocos beach bar. The beach is quiet and remote- Cristal Azul- with only 4 villas is intimate. It was the perfect place for our honeymoon and is overall a great place to completely unplug from life and just relax. We will definitely be back!

We enjoyed a beautiful break from it all at Cristal Azul! With only 4 villas and a fantastic rancho and pool - it was more like being in our backyard, if our backyard was stunning with an Infinity pool. We were just relaxed and “home”. The rooms were comfy and the views breathtaking. There is plenty to do if you want to but we were looking for permission to just relax and we did. Breakfast was yummy and a little different each day. Locos Cocos has great food and location and Henner and Zene were awesome hosts! We will be back!!
