This is a review of the restaurant. An elegant if somewhat sombre dining room in the centre of this small town. While nothing stands out, we did enjoy a quality traditional French dinner together with fine wine and excellent service. The tables are well spaced and it is quiet enough to enjoy an intimate conversation. Will definitely return.

We didn't go to stay at the hotel - just for the food, treated by family as a reward for helping them move house nearby! Excellent - we had the set menu, which was full of flavour and a very pleasant three course meal. The outdoor courtyard was lovely on a summer evening and service was polite and respectful. Highly...

This is a delightful attractive town to explore and the hotel is perfectly situated for this. However........ Why spend money building a swimming pool and fitness centre on the opposite side of the road, which no guests used whilst I was here, when so much better would be to invest in the hotel. Wifi is dreadful and you need to...

an example of a dying breed: the good restaurant with rooms. NOT an Ibis/ Campanile . An individual and honey family run hotel ( 3rd generation). Good stop off from A20 ( no need to get lost in Limoges). Easy to find. Town is breath taxingly pretty, even on a wet morning. Salmon tartare was a good as could be...

We only stayed her by accident after our car broke down on the A20 and the recovery driver booked us in here. What a wonderful silver lining to a dark cloud. Wondefully helpful, very comfortable room, the food just blew our minds (set price lunch was the best value meal we've had anywhere and was delicious), the chef is amazing...

It could be because we didn't speak fluent French but we didn't get a very warm welcome. Breakfast was nothing special but the room was fine looking out over the courtyard. I'd go again but look for alternatives as well.

We weren't staying at the hotel but looking for somewhere to eat so dropped in. Wow! The food was excellent. A good choice of menus with some 'amuse boches' to get us started. Prawns and duck were both superbly cooked and presented. Staff were excellent, very attentive and between our Fench and their English we got by! We will come...

Excellent menu, excellent food which certainly made up for so so bedroom. But the room price was very good so I shouldn't grumble. Oh yes. The wiffi is funded by adverts which you have to watch to get connected and will quickly close the link which was irritating. But again outstanding food … which is more important?

We stayed here one night on a trip South, It is more or less bang in the middle of France so a good resting point. The hotel has been refurbished in recent years and apparently has a pool but being the end of October and a brief stopover we did not get to see it. The room we had was...

We popped into the Cheval Noire on Saturday, hadn't been there for some time, so decided to treat ourselves - good move. Once again, the food was EXCELLENT, Chef excelled. He has some wonderful ideas which he appears to execute with precision. Very well priced meal and the court yard is a lovely place to have lunch on a sunny...

“The rooms are generally on the small side, but the ones opposite the gate seem to be a little larger. With the windows shut, we weren't disturbed by traffic, but if it's hot, it may be quieter on the other side of the corridor on that side.”
