We (my wife and 10 years old son) stayed at Marataba Safari lodge a few days ago as part of a wider tour of South Africa. Marataba was our first stop, and what an experience it was. The reserve is absolutely beautiful and the landscape is breath taking. The lodge in itself is well designed, respects its environment and very...

We had a wonderful stay at this great lodge. The surroundings were beautiful. We saw many animals, ranging from small (like the captivating dung beetle) to large. The ranger was great: funny and knowledgable. It is a great place to visit with children (9 and 13). They made my daugther's birthday very special.

We have just returned from Marataba and I can highly recommend this lodge. We were a family of four (children aged 11 & 13) and stayed for 5 nights. We were successful in sighting the 'Big 5' along with many other mammals, birds, and insects. We also appreciated learning about the many plants in the area. As this is a...

Stunning! We absolutely loved Marataba. It's truly a special place and we hope to make it back some day soon. Hopefully you are lucky enough to spend your day with Ralf the Ranger or your evenings with Clive-manager, sommelier & story teller!

This was our 1st trip to Marataba and Marataba absolutely blew us away!! The arrival is absolutely 1st class, you are spoiled the minute you step out of your vehicle and into the hands of the awaiting Marataba team. The architecture is beautiful, minimalistic and inviting. The food was prepared with great taste in mind. Our guide Lawrence was incredibly...

My daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights and it was absolutely fantastic. We went on 4 game drives. 2 were in the morning at 5:30am and 2 at 4pm each day. Each drive lasted 3-4 hours. Our driver/guide was Ralph and he was so knowledgeable about everything we saw. The accommodation was a luxury tent and had everything...

The food was terrible safe for breakfast. Worse i was served rotten fish for dinner and i didnt even get an apology from the chef or senior staff-life just simply moved on like nothing ever happend.A week later still cringe at the thought of a severity of seafood poisoning.Lunch too was just so basic and unimaginative-truly so not appetising(dry steakroll!)...

My husband and I recently stayed at Maratarba for 10 nights as part of a photography workshop. It really is a stunning place. The location, the staff, the wildlife and food couldn't be faulted. What was paticularly great was how knowledgeable the drivers were and how they respected the wildlife.

We arrived with 4 seniors and 2 children (9 and 11) to spend three days at the lodge. This was my second stay at a MORE safari property and again, I was not disappointed! The views at Marataba are lovely! The tent accommodations are not quite as rustic as they seemed on the website, with luxury materials and comfortable bedding....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Marataba is a malaria-free 23000 hectare private concession within the Big5 Marakele National Park (Limpopo, South Africa). Just four hours from Johannesburg, this is a sanctuary where busy people can find themselves again by connecting with nature. We were rendered breathless by the dramatic Waterberg mountains, vast plains, rich animal diversity and winding rivers cutting through the landscape of the Marakele National Park. Rich red mountain rock meets lush green plains (where you will find yellowwood and cedar trees, 5m high cycads and tree ferns). All of the large game species from elephant and rhino to the big cats, as well as an amazing variety of birds (including the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures in the world, with more than 800 breeding pairs) have settled here. Marataba Safari Lodge is a simple extension of the natural environment beyond its walls - rich, bold, organic and patently magnificent. Whether you prefer your own company or that of new-found friends, there are a number of spots from which to soak up the view - hammock, pool lounger or grassy patch. On the menu for your pleasure is a smorgasbord of activities from which to choose. Whether game drive, walking trail, sunset river excursion on Miss Mara, or a private dinner for two, there is never enough time to exhaust the many ways there are to love this place. ... more   less
