A nice place for a one night stay during our cycle tour in Czech Republic.
Our room was very small, but clean and adequate. The breakfast was very good. They had good bicycle storage available.
The town was very small, not many restaurants, but this penzion had some self-catering facilities.

We spent one night here of a week-long bike tour from Cesky Krumlov to Vienna.
Sadly, we were the only guests staying in the Villa at the time of our visit. Our room was spacious with very high ceilings and a lovely view of the garden.
Breakfast was excellent with lots of choices. The owners were friendly and helpful.

If you wish to try for yourself what it could have been living in a well-to-do home in Moravia (or anywhere in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy) in the early 20th Century, then book an apartment here. The name (the family name of the once owners, meaning 'deer' in Czech, but meaning 'present' as in time for us, Hungarians) is an exceptional lodging in my experience. The once grand villa standing very close to the center of this lovely small town has smaller and larger apartments furnished with a blend of comfortable contemporary and period furniture. The hosts, Jana and Miloslav were outstandingly attentive and kind, just like their staff. They offered my wife and myself a free upgrade--available due to the lucky cancellation by other travellers,--as well as hiking maps and books to read about the otherwise unfortunately sad history of the region (ethnic injustices, as usual, in this region involving Czechs, Sudeten Germans, and Jews). The breathtaking landscape, the chance for slow tourism, the peace and silence, the choice of great hikes as well as rides in the surrounding National Park with unique climate, the friendly locals all gave us a memorable winter break. Free parking on the property, great breakfast. A plus for us: dogs are also welcome. We will definitely return.

We stayed in Pension Jelen for a few days just before the New Years Eve, in one of the top-floor apartments overlooking the Vranov castle. The apartment had two really spacious rooms (we were just the two of us but the apartment could easily fit four), both tastefully furnished with early-20th-century furniture, wooden floors and a lovely carpet. We felt very relaxed and pleasant in there. The bathroom was equipped with a shower, all nice and clean. There was a kitchenette in the apartment, which was just fine for making boiled eggs and perhaps a soup, real cooking would be a bit tricky. The view at the iconic castle was just charming. There is a free wifi in the house.

The owner was kind to offer to do breakfast shopping for us in Znojmo (about 15km) but as we wanted to have a dinner there anyway, we did the shopping ourselves. The hotel does not provide dinners so we tried a few of the local restaurants ('Country House', or something of this name, was simple but tolerable if not used too often). In Znojmo, we ate in hotel-restaurant 'Lahofer' in Vesela street, which was brilliant. The highlight of our stay was a trip to Hardegg (we walked from Cizov, it's about 5km walk from there) and there restaurant 'Hammerschmied'. Though not great looking from the outside, we felt like in a gastronomic heaven (at least compared to what you would get in a village of a similar side on the Czech side of the border).

We would definitely come again to Pension Jelen next time!

We stayed in Penzion JELEN for 4 days after my son crashed on his bike during our bike tour. The hospitality was beyond all expectations. The helpfulness finding a dentist for his broken teeth, the care in making it easy to stay extra nights and over all warmth and kindness would have me recommended this penzion to anyhow. Also- the breakfasts were great and the coffee outstanding.
Thank you! An experience that will always be remembered.

It was a wonderful week, with excellent atmosphere and warm care from the owners. We felt like being invited to someones house. We do recommend staying for a family with small kids, as we are - pension is ready for anything you may need, or what might happen :-D Highly recommended!

This is the best place to stay in Vranov nad Dyji by far. It is a beautifully and tastefully renovated villa from the 1920's.
We have booked an apartment on the 2nd floor with castle view & we were more than pleasantly surprised. The rooms are spacious, clean with original features. We have had a very good selection of teas and coffee in the kitchen. Some rooms have got balcony as well. There is a large garden with sitting areas, where you can enjoy nice glass of wine you just bought from some local vine maker.
The breakfast is FABULOUS, with an excellent choice of cold meat, cheeses, home made! bread and sweets or their home made jams are to die for.
This place is ideal for couples. It is beautiful & peaceful romantic hide away. They just finished the sauna area as well, which is a pleasant bonus. The lady who is operating the place couldn't be more helpful. It was really difficult to leave, but we will be back! No doubt about it :)

Nice place for family trip, very close to the castle Vranov and other attractions. There is a big garden with playground for kids and garden furniture to enjoy breakfast outside. Small kitchen in the room available.
