If you wish to try for yourself what it could have been living in a well-to-do home in Moravia (or anywhere in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy) in the early 20th Century, then book an apartment here. The name (the family name of the once owners, meaning 'deer' in Czech, but meaning 'present' as in time for us, Hungarians) is an exceptional lodging in my experience. The once grand villa standing very close to the center of this lovely small town has smaller and larger apartments furnished with a blend of comfortable contemporary and period furniture. The hosts, Jana and Miloslav were outstandingly attentive and kind, just like their staff. They offered my wife and myself a free upgrade--available due to the lucky cancellation by other travellers,--as well as hiking maps and books to read about the otherwise unfortunately sad history of the region (ethnic injustices, as usual, in this region involving Czechs, Sudeten Germans, and Jews). The breathtaking landscape, the chance for slow tourism, the peace and silence, the choice of great hikes as well as rides in the surrounding National Park with unique climate, the friendly locals all gave us a memorable winter break. Free parking on the property, great breakfast. A plus for us: dogs are also welcome. We will definitely return.

We stayed in Penzion JELEN for 4 days after my son crashed on his bike during our bike tour. The hospitality was beyond all expectations. The helpfulness finding a dentist for his broken teeth, the care in making it easy to stay extra nights and over all warmth and kindness would have me recommended this penzion to anyhow. Also- the breakfasts were great and the coffee outstanding. Thank you! An experience that will always be remembered.

It was a wonderful week, with excellent atmosphere and warm care from the owners. We felt like being invited to someones house. We do recommend staying for a family with small kids, as we are - pension is ready for anything you may need, or what might happen :-D Highly recommended!

This is the best place to stay in Vranov nad Dyji by far. It is a beautifully and tastefully renovated villa from the 1920's. We have booked an apartment on the 2nd floor with castle view & we were more than pleasantly surprised. The rooms are spacious, clean with original features. We have had a very good selection of teas and coffee in the kitchen. Some rooms have got balcony as well. There is a large garden with sitting areas, where you can enjoy nice glass of wine you just bought from some local vine maker. The breakfast is FABULOUS, with an excellent choice of cold meat, cheeses, home made! bread and sweets or their home made jams are to die for. This place is ideal for couples. It is beautiful & peaceful romantic hide away. They just finished the sauna area as well, which is a pleasant bonus. The lady who is operating the place couldn't be more helpful. It was really difficult to leave, but we will be back! No doubt about it :)

Nice place for family trip, very close to the castle Vranov and other attractions. There is a big garden with playground for kids and garden furniture to enjoy breakfast outside. Small kitchen in the room available.

Charming hostess who is very helpful and client oriented. The room is really clean and spacious. There are some games for kids and the garden is big enough to allow you to have your lunches outside. Good place to visit this beautiful region.

I have stayed there recently, spent 2 nights. Ideal spot for a relaxed weekend and serves as a good base for exploring the beautiful NP Podyjí. Jana, the manager is super friendly and helpful. Way above expectations. The place is also very pet friendly, we had our 2 year old ridgeback girl with us and she also had a great time. Unfortunately our dog got bitten by so many ticks, mosquitoes and ants in the forest that got a very severe allergic reaction to these bites, but Jana offered her help at 10:00 PM, called their friend who was a local vet, and help arrived immediately. Highly recommeded, we would definitely return.

I slept in Penzion Jelen maybe 4 or 5 times and was always impressed by cozy stylish interior. Great view on castle, disposed service make this venue best place to stay when in Vranov. I am a keen bicycle rider and Vranov area provides great bicycle routes for all kind of bikers, doesn't matter if you are fan of MTB, cross or road bike. Restaurants in walk distance, frankly just below the pension, ship journey on nearby Vranov dam, biker bus to Znojmo and wine cellars and wine tasting in biking distance are the reasons why to decide for Pension Jelen. Free WiFi, parking on the ground and nice garden with children's playing area make difference.
