Booked as always via SLH, this is a magnificent Building, with a well maintained ground and a good golf course. I had booked 2 rooms for my family for a short stay. The overall impression was OK but not Wow. Good points: + Free large car park with Electric charging points. + Historical building (ask reception for the leaflet with the history of the place). + Free Mini Bar with an OK selection (Coca, Beers, Juice and Water). + Efficient front desk. To improve: - Porter/Valet could be more friendly and welcoming (first impression?). - Does not deliver on the promised package (no fruits, no welcome card, no chocolate, Nothing!). - Pathetic Restaurant Menu for such location (Italian food????). - Will charge you for tap water 5€ for a jug???? Even when you had wine and mineral water, shocking! Overall the Hotel is good, room are confortable, surrounding is pleasant. Restaurant is a joke, poor service, Menu is extremely short, food if just average and clearly NOT acceptable for an hotel with rooms at 250€/night on average. Italian food and a handful of so called German food??? Really let down! Staff are mostly here for weddings and extras, do not know ab out the hotel (I had to ask 4 of them to get some drinks from the bar.... The hotel should take a lot more care about their real customer instead of placing their focus on daily venues and weddings! (Check other reviews, this is not an isolated point of view). No game room, no snooker or other entertainment, nothing for kids in the hotel or nearby. Bar was used as storage room for the weddings (rack of glasses....) mostly close during our stay...a shame as the layout is nice. No Welcome, no recognition of your status, no personalised message...When guest are meant to have fresh fruits, Newspapers.....they should not ask for it! (I had to call reception to book my daily newspaper, this is meant to be part of the checking process! I was supposed to get SPA and Sport room access on my package.....I am still looking for it, again no mention of it! Breakfast is OK. 5 Star building! 4 Star Rooms! 3 Star Service! As for the Lunch - Dinner menu go elsewhere!…
We had a last minute reservation, room with balcony was great, all property including the massive park are well kept. Breakfast and other meals on terrace outstanding. A non smoking policy on terrace, at least during breakfast and meal times, should be imposed though. All services provided were top notch. Family favorites were the rose garden and the park cottage/ beergarden. Definitely worth a trip.
Positive: The castle is amazing, the rooms very comfortable, the meals delicious, the service excellent. Neutral: Only in the basement are some public rooms to see (mostly dinning rooms) , all upper floors are hotel rooms. Negativ: Expensive
This was a wonderful experience. The hotel was absolutely beautiful and extremely well kept. In addition to that, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. It was my wife’s birthday so they were generous enough to leave a hand written note wishing her a happy birthday along with a drink. Also, the food in the restaurant was very tasty. All that combined with the fact you can stay in an actual castle is more than enough reason to recommend this hotel!
This was the home of Queen Victoria's eldest daughter so if good enough for Victoria, it should be good enough for anyone! It is a grand hotel, with a beautiful terrace to enjoy meals and cocktails. The hotel was very thoughtful and had hand sanitizers well placed throughout the hotel. We had our anniversary dinner in the restaurant and the food was superb; 5/5 for the restaurant. A shout out to Shobin who was a fantastic server. Nothing was too much trouble for him. We were so impressed, we left a note for the manager to commend his service. We think he is training the other staff which is good as not everyone lives up to his level of service but I'm sure they will get there. Thank you for a lovely stay.
