Stone House Retreat, a gem in the wilderness of Umbria near Fabro Scalo. 3 welcoming hosts – Paolo and Karl, two considerate and discreet companions for a truly relaxing vacation and Ian: the blessed design artist for the rooms, the wonderful garden and surroundings. The way up the hills from Fabro Scalo (the COOP is important for the necessary self-catering)...

We were back for the 3rd time and it was perfect like always before. All 3 apartements are equiped with everything you need and have this special tough which makes you feel at home immediately. Extremely clean and very well mantained - any if there is anything you need - one of the hosts are always here with a helping...

The Stone House Retreat, while off the beaten path on a very beaten dirt road, was a joy to come back to after a day exploring Umbria. Hosts Ian, Karl and Paolo were gracious and very helpful throughout the week we were there. Gay! A class act! I'll be sure to go back. Three apartments with comfortable queen sized beds,...

We stayed there in March 2014 and fell in love with the property. It's beautifully maintained, relatively close to wonderful cities like Orvieto and Citta della Pieve, and rooms are completely charming. Ian, Paolo, and Karl were perfect, making dinner reservations for us, giving advice when needed, and otherwise just letting us have fun and do what we liked .The...

We visited Italy many times but never saw the “true” Italy until we came to “Il Gallo Rosso”. After each holiday we always felt like we needed another holiday. But a stay here and you know you were on a real dream. To sum “Il Gallo Rosso” up in two words… “a tonic”. Thanks again. And hopefully ye will win...

We had a wonderful time at Il gallo rosso! We had been traveling from town to town for 2 weeks and arrived at this most tranquil, scenic and welcoming guest house. There is something magical about this place. The spacious rooms were so engaging with 2 sets of double doors wandering out into the garden on the one side and...

We spent a wonderful week at Il Gallo Rosso, meeting kind and hospitable people and sharing some good times with the locals. Ian is the ideal host and makes this home from home. The rooms are spotless, comfortable and functional. I would recommend it highly for a great stay in the most stunning part of Italy!

We stayed at this charming farmhouse in August 2003. Our host Ian was delightful & his kind hospitality was very well received (he cooks a mean Ragu!). A very special effort was made to make us feel comfortable & welcome & we sure got to experience life as a local - the most amusing was following a few large glasses...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Antica Fattoria di Pietra (Stone House Retreat), a gay friendly old country house with pool. Positioned perfectly for the must-see destinations of Rome and Florence and the major sites of Tuscany and Umbria, we are situated within 10km of major motorways and train stations, however still maintaining the seclusion and tranquility of a totally rural environment. Within less than a 70 km radius, we have such impressive cities as Siena, Perugia, Assisi, Arezzo, Orvieto, Cetona, Montepulciano, Todi, and Spoleto, just to name a few. Also within this area are important archaeological sites from the pre-roman (Etruscan) period, as well as the natural beauty of Monte Amiata in Tuscany, lake Bolsena and lake Trasimeno. For example you may wish to visit places such as Sorano, Sovana, Pitigliano to marvel at this history and beauty with your own eyes. For our guests we have three independent suites all on ground level and each contains a double bedroom of generous proportion, private bathroom, kitchenette, dining and sitting areas with double sofa beds in two of these apartments. Outside, each suite enjoys private access via its own alfresco dining area. You may prefer to stay in the "Lavanda" (Lavender) suite, or in the "Girasole" (Sunflower) suite, or in the "Papavero" (Poppy) studio tastefully decorated in gentle tones of the corresponding flowers that have become synonymous with this area through spring and summer. ... more   less
