What a disappointing place. The marketing folks are amazing because it looks like a dream resort, however, what’s advertised as a spot for “travelers, not tourists,” is really for influencers who want the veneer of adventure. It’s about as authentic as an Instagram filter. What we found at mizata was lots of tourists in the infinity pool, horrible communication, and an extremely inattentive staff. On our first of 3 nights (we ended our stay early and cancelled our 4th night), we heard a strange noise coming from the ceiling. We thought maybe insects or plumbing. But on the second night, when the sounds got louder and more pronounced, we thought maybe birds or mice. We told the staff the next morning, who assured us it was BATS! We had BATS (multiple) in our room, walking around and making lots of noise. The screeching sounds of the bats kept us up all night. We were told by the staff that when we were out of the resort to visit a Salvadoran friend, that when we returned, our winged visitors would be removed and our room cleaned and disinfected. Nope. When we returned, it was as if nothing happened. Bats we’re still there and the room was in the same condition (apparently, cleaning a bat-exposed room is for tourists, not travelers). The whole time, we didn’t receive clean towels or sheets. We asked multiple times for water. We’d wait around 45 minutes for a check at the restaurant (that had us prices but terrible service). It’s also really far from the airport and most everything else. Trying to coordinate transportation from the airport while in the states was also horrible. If we didn’t have a Salvadoran friend, we wouldn’t receive confirmation that we would get picked up from the airport, despite multiple emails, calls, WhatsApp messages, etc. before we left. When we tried to book surfing lessons, we were told, sure we’ll text you when there’s an instructor. We waited all day, but no messages—that’s par for the course here with horrible communication. If you want a zoonotic disease and pictures in the influencer pool, this is your spot; otherwise, save your money and potential exposure to disease.

This place and the people that work here are a dream come true! My daughter had 2 weddings in the US canceled due to Covid and we decided on a destination wedding at Mizata. (And she got engaged there 2 years ago so it holds a special place in their hearts!) Josh the owner was fantastic to work with and he hires amazing staff! Karla Gomez was hired by the hotel as our wedding planner and she took care of everything for us. She is top-notch!!! She could work in any 5-star hotel in the US!! She made my daughter's dreams come true! She offered amazing vendors and suggested wonderful touches that were so special. She hired fire-dancers and fireworks for our event! Everything was stress-free, she made magic happen by making sure everything happened and flowed like magic! The food at Mizata is also 5-star! Ponchi, the restaurant manager is so nice and friendly and aims to please! He's always smiling and helpful with whatever you want. Rocco and Leandro were our drivers and they let us know about some history of El Salvador and pointed out things and were so much fun to talk to. I highly recommend doing the meal plan as it is so easy and good. If you are getting married and want a destination wedding or a fabulous vacation, go to Mizata!!

Mizata is the place to disconnect to reconnect with your family. Taking the time to do completely nothing & plug gave us the serenity we needed! Mizata offers many amenities on-site & a restaurant that serves food that everyone will enjoy. The menu is full of fresh fruits & juices, flavorful foods, & vegan-friendly dishes. We never desired the need to ever leave Mizata. Everything we have needed was right at the resort. Check-in & out was a breeze. The staff were attentive & made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We were given a personal tour of the Mizata upon arrival so we didn't have to question where anything was on the resort. We would wake up in our beach bungalow with views of the ocean & tropical sounds. Not to mention the scenic views of the sunsets at Mizata! I was truly blown away by the sunsets & sunrises so much I never miss one view during my stay because we were so amazed. Our room was very spacious with a comfortable king-size bed and a pull-out sofa if we needed it. Our package included unlimited surfing & horsing back riding. It was an awesome experience for the kids to try something they never tried before. Mizata is located in the El Zonte beach zone which is home to the black sandy soft beaches & great waves for surfing but subtle enough for young kids to enjoy. If you're looking to relax, I recommended unwinding with Mizata. Mizata exceeded my expectations before arrival. If I ever return to El Salvador I will be sure to stay back at the Mizata. I went to Mizata for my first ever yoga retreat (theirs too) and was amazed by their kindness, philosophy and atmosphere. It was a seven day long dream, one that has had me reevaluating my reality. The yoga itself gave me a chance to slow down and reconnect with my mind and body (Catherine Haut is an incredible instructor), and then in our downtime we were offered the opportunity to horseback ride, hike the Santa Ana volcano, surf the famous Mizata breaks and relax in their beachfront pool. It was such a well-rounded experience. Also, THE FOOD! NAWI Beach House is Mizata's restaurant/bar and their food is both nourishing and absolutely mouthwatering. I'm salivating writing this. Get the vegan burrito (smother it in their sauce), and the garlic prawns. A huge thank you to the crew for being so welcoming and for making us feel like family. I will be back! If you have the opportunity to spend a moment of your life here, don't hesitate. It might just be exactly what you need.

Mizata is beautiful, relaxing, great, warm, guides with Salvadorian orgullo (pride)! We had an awkward experience with Shon in sales before we arrived who was unprofessional and cold. There were many different prices given to us as better deals were talked about before we arrives but not given. We were promised a beach front bungalow but it wasn't available when we arrived. There are some unknown expenses at the end so make sure you ask what you are paying for on the trip and with the meal plan.
