On the road to Ella from Colombo, on the outskirts of the Horton Plains National Park is a small town called Belihuloya. We stopped here after a few hour drive and decided to check out some local accommodation and somewhere peaceful to spend the afternoon. We stumbled upon Landa Holiday Homes. It is down a steep track from the main road and set back in lush, well kept gardens backing onto a small river. We opted to stay in one of the new build rooms which are light and airy with good fixtures and a massive bed. There are other rooms nearer the river but we opted for the more modern style higher up the hill. We spent the afternoon exploring the gardens, messing about in the river and chatting to the family who own the place. The garden is littered with jack fruit and pepper trees and has great views of the surrounding countryside. In the evening, ‘Grandma’ cooked is an enormous meal, featuring some of the best aubergine and fish curry dishes that we have tasted so far on our trip to Sri Lanka. The staff were also happy to drive into the town and purchase us some cold beers to enjoy with dinner. It is a fantastically peaceful and relaxing place and a great place to stop over if you are travelling across country or for access to Worlds End. …
First, the place is absolutely great and I couldn't help but immediately fall in love with the luscious garden surrounded by jungle where the owners set up this lovely architecture, a genuine jewel. This definitely was the best overnight stay during my 2-week trip in Sri Lanka. The houses are intelligently designed using natural materials, furnished with high quality and beautiful interiors. The place is very clean and taken care of with lots of love. The owners serve delicious food on the terrace, both dinner and breakfast were the icing on the cake added to a just perfect stay.
We have stayed in Landa Holiday House on very many occasions and it was so good to be back there as it just feels like 'home from home'. There were significant renovations going on in the main building so we could not eat on the usual terrace but this was no problem as the wonderful staff brought our food to our room and looked after us with outstandingly good service. We stayed in one of the new rooms above the main building with marvelous views over the jungle and paddy fields. It was magical to wake up in the morning to the sound of birds. The room is clean and very well appointed and we were delighted with it. Internet worked perfectly there which was essential to or work whilst traveling. Manake is an absolutely wonderful cook who prepares fantastic rice and curries of authentic nature - we are vegetarian and she makes a super range of vegetable curries. All the staff are helpful and a huge thank you to Almeda and Samantha for taking such wonderful care of us. See you next time!!!…
We loved this place, the accomodation was clean and charming, the hosts were friendly and caring, the food was home cooked and fantastic! One of the only places we didn't feel over charged, can definately recommend 👍
During the first two weeks of December 2018, I had a wonderful stay at Landa Holiday Homes in Belihul Oya. This complex of holiday homes is situated in a wonderful tropical garden, with rooms well equipped for the traveller. As I noticed, Landa Holiday Houses is a perfect place to visit during any Sri Lanka discovery trip. Landa provides a great opportunity to find peace and quiet, while at the same time having wonderful possibilities to explore the surroundings like nature reserves at your disposal. The good food, cooked and prepared on site, completed this wonderful experience.
