At the southern end of the Maldives, lies a rare oasis: Raffles Maldives Meradhoo. This uniquely idyllic resort brings the legendary service of Raffles, host to the well-travelled since 1887, to Gaafu Alifu, one of the world's largest and remote natural atolls. Offering two distinctly luxurious experiences: a private island with white sands, turquoise lagoon and lush greenery and an overwater enclave facing east and west to capture majestic sunrises and sunsets. Throughout, remarkably spacious accommodation with private pools offers profound privacy and comfort. Three restaurants serve BBQ prime cuts to exquisite Nikkei cuisine. Two bars serving tapas and crafted cocktails. From romantic retreats to havens of family time, each is served by Raffles Butlers. Yoga, fitness and the Raffles Spa promote well-being. Two private islands. One unique Raffles service. An experience like no other.

Raffles was extremely chic and exclusive. We loved our time there. The entire team was very friendly and professional. Our butler Yasir Ibrahim was especially fantastic. Yasir was attentive, pro-active and kind. Our beach villa was absolutely lovely. The team always left us lovely surprises and made a special one of a kind set up dinner for us on the beach. Was an unforgettable experience. Thank you Raffles team and Yasir, it was a memorable stay.

Hotel's Favorite
During our last visit in June 2019, the overwater area was still under renovation. So we now came back to see Meradhoo in full operation. The ocean pearls are completely separated from the main island and only accessible via a short boat ride. The villas are really huge and feature an elegant décor along with marine elements. They are equipped with modern technology and floor-to-ceiling glass windows which provide great view over the ocean from every room. Nice, small things you can spot like FlipFlops wrapped in an organza pouch or pretty face masks for him/her in 2 sizes with Meradhoo’s signature coral design, together with lavender & lemongrass hand sanitizer. Of course I pre-selected again those marvellous jasmine bath amenities, they are so wow. Outdoor area features a pool, cabana and also overwater hammocks. Located under the roof are the table and sun loungers. So If the weather is not that good, you can still sit outside. Due to higher privacy, we would recommend the sunset side. Boat shuttle to main island is not an issue in terms of schedule, but it is a bit tricky during bad weather conditions. The first two days the sea was pretty bumpy, so it was not always fun to get into the boat (and getting out). The ocean pearls also provide an own public area with pool, bar and the amazing Yuzu restaurant featuring Nikkei cuisine. The brandnew chef Diana from Lima boasts a long experience in Peruvian fusion cuisine. The main island is so amazing with palm-fringed beaches, tropical vegetation and superb views over the wide ocean. Every single day we loved to have breakfast (and not only breakfast 😉) at wonderfully located and designed Thari. Without any doubt – this is one of the most lovely beach venues in the Maldives. Apart from the usual things on offer like juices, smoothies, bubbles you can also opt every morning for a fresh coconut, very nice. Some new twists on the menu are from Turkish sous-chef Samet. We shared some delicious Mezze Plate and hubby tried also Turkish Manti. Sensational was the Tiradito at Yuzu. It’s a variation of Ceviche, but in a more refined preparation. We absolutely enjoyed our dinner there. The Firepit serves grilled seafood & meat in a rustic, romantic beach ambiance. Also you can enjoy a traditional bodu beru performance. There we did try their new created cocktail „man over board“ with Vodka, Cognac, Passionfruit (hope that’s correct from memory). A very tasty one! Service in all outlets was excellent, staff was truly amiable. For example, on the first evening at Thari the weather was not that good, windy and rainy. So I think it was Ali who suddenly brought me a pashmina to cover my shoulders. Just at breakfast I had an issue. I was missing some sort of tropical jam (which is a must for me in the Maldives). Also, I love danish fruit pastry but it was always some kind of cinammon roll in the bakery basket. Even upon asking for a danish, it did not change. Well, at least I got some papaya jam the next days. Breakfast menu is based on „themed dishes“. So if you order e.g. Maldivian Heritage, you‘ll get a mixed plate including Mas Huni, Samosas, Omelette and Chapati. Island water is served complimentary in all outlets, very valued. Food prices are within the usual range for a top-notch resort, whereas drinks, especially wine, are a bit ambitious. Most of the beach villas are hidden behind the tropical foliage, so it looks very virgin and very beautiful. I love both sides, sunrise and sunset. The beaches are protected and swimming was always possible whereas on the first two days I did not jump into the ocean from our water villa due to the relatively rough sea over there. The reef is easily accessible from sunrise side, but it’s not a big island, so if you stay on the other side it’s not an issue at all. During low tide, you can walk completely around the island. At high tide, several parts of the beach are too narrow to walk along comfortably. This time we only snorkelled around the ocean pearls. It’s good in terms of fish life, but there is not a typical drop-off (at least not in the area we have been). So in terms of coral and reef structure, I found from mind the main island reef more interesting. You can as well snorkel the channel between both areas, but we didn’t again. Your private butler would also be happily join you crossing the twin-islands. We spend as well some time at the pool area (mainly to go swimming on the beach). There we got treated with iced tea, cold towels, Australian Gold botanical suncream, and Evian facial spray. Very ritzy 😊. With only 38 villas, a peaceful, intimate and private atmosphere is guaranteed. Raffles combines a classic luxury experience with a chic barefoot vibe. It‘s truly an outstanding place and one of our very favourite resorts in the Maldives.

We stayed in a Sunset Overwater Villa at Raffles on our honeymoon. It is an absolute paradise. We have not stayed at any other resorts in the Maldives but it's hard to imagine things being more perfect. The villas are enormous and beautiful. The privacy in your villa/pool is exceptional compared to what other resorts look like. The service from everyone at the resort from start to finish was impeccable. The food was often at the level of a very fine restaurant, occasionally just "good", and never bad. That is quite a feat given you are in the middle of the Indian ocean. There are no buffets here. Our favorite restaurant was Yuzu, the Japanese/Peruvian fusion offering. A smiling face like Mariyam's was always ready to make each meal special. Everyone really gets to know you there. A nice surprise was that almost every meal or activity had a refreshing cold towel and non-alcoholic aperitif to start. The alcoholic drinks, while expensive, are also extremely well done. We purchased the half board plan (Breakfast and Dinner included), and it was more than enough food. There is more still/sparkling water available (included for everyone) than you could possibly need. We snorkeled every day both directly from our overwater villa and on the main island's reef. Having a gopro to capture the many fish on film was well worth it. The gym must have one of the best views in the world for running a 5k on the treadmill. The extras we took part in were scuba diving and the spa for a couples massage. Shrivatri and Ayu gave phenomenal massages. Hussain was our dive master and took us on four dives both on the house reef and in open water within the atoll. He is an excellent guide and the dives were amazing. Lastly we would like to thank Saanih, our butler. A big part of our Honeymoon being absolutely perfect was Saanih's hard work to make it so. If we could rate his service it would be 6 stars, truly exceptional. We hope you're doing well Saanih! Overall Raffles Meradhoo was the vacation of a lifetime and well worth the travel/expense. We hope to make it back some day.

It's hard to pick a place to begin. We'd like to illustrate the dedication of the staff with a little anecdote. During our stay, my husband dropped his phone into the water from the overwater wooden deck of one of the restaurants there. We were distraught and shocked. Within minutes, about 10 staff members came to assess the situation. Even though it was PITCH BLACK out and the waves were strong that night, two staff members (Shahud and Hor Bhaadhur) went INTO the water to look for the phone. After about 15 minutes, they emerged from the water DRENCHED from head to toe with the phone! (The phone still works!) We could not believe it and felt so thankful for their sacrifice. We truly want to commend Mr. Shahud and Mr. Hor for their efforts and feel nothing but gratitude towards them. I believe this story illustrates the kind of service you will find at Raffles. Secondly, we absolutely loved the food at Raffles, especially the food at Yuzu. The ingredients taste so so fresh. We strongly feel that the meals we had at Yuzu were some of the best in our lives. (I highly recommend the nigiri.) We were also able to get to know Chef Diana when we took a cooking lesson with her and she is an INCREDIBLY talented and delightful person. We also ate at Thari frequently, where I was able to order one of my favorite foods that wasn’t on the menu: tom yum soup! The chef and staff are so accommodating and go above and beyond to give you the best food experience. Finally, the island and nature are stunning, not to mention the gorgeous and spacious villas. The bed we slept on was HUGE and could probably fit 6 people across! The reefs are beautiful, and there are plenty of wildlife on the island itself as well. There are other staff members we'd like to highlight, especially our butler Faseeh, Muni, Gitesh, Chamila, and Ali. They all made our stay so delightful and made us feel cared for. We'd like to say a special thanks to Muni for his wonderful sense of humor and Gitesh for his knowledgable recommendations and stories about cocktails and drinks. We’d also like to thank Abdullah, Ibrahim, Shaheen, Naid, Hassan, and Ahmed. We didn’t get the names of the two gentlemen manning the boats between the two islands but we do want to thank them as well. All of you guys made our honeymoon unforgettable.
