Travelers' Choice
At the southern end of the Maldives, lies a rare oasis: Raffles Maldives Meradhoo. This uniquely idyllic resort brings the legendary service of Raffles, host to the well-travelled since 1887, to Gaafu Alifu, one of the world's largest and remote natural atolls. Offering two distinctly luxurious experiences: a private island with white sands, turquoise lagoon and lush greenery and an overwater enclave facing east and west to capture majestic sunrises and sunsets. Throughout, remarkably spacious accommodation with private pools offers profound privacy and comfort. Three restaurants serve BBQ prime cuts to exquisite Nikkei cuisine. Two bars serving tapas and crafted cocktails. From romantic retreats to havens of family time, each is served by Raffles Butlers. Yoga, fitness and the Raffles Spa promote well-being. Two private islands. One unique Raffles service. An experience like no other.

Amazing and super private hideaway. One tiny island, where you can walk along the beautiful beach within 10 minutes around the island and which locates the beach villas. Then the on-water-villas which are connected to the beach villa island by hotel speed boat (3min). Very well managed and top service in any way and at any time. Special thanks to Yonus and his staff, as well to Fasy and the lovely Spa and Gym team including April, Lia and Deepandra. Food was always of best quality. I would come back any time.

Thanks to the Raffles Maldives and the amazing staff... We have been taken in charge at the Male airport by Husain very nice and helpful. He did all the formalities and took care of everything for us to reach the hotel island. We then reached the Meradhoo Atol with a special and dedicated check in (traditional music instruments and drinks were waiting for us) The hotel director (Olivier) came in person to wish us a good stay and led us until our villa door. The villa was actually looking much more better than the internet pictures. Oliver then introduced us to our dedicated butler : Sinah. Sinah was reachable on 24/7; he was helping us for all our requests. He was always here for us and even proposed to come with us for some snorkeling where he found a turtle. Sinah is really committed and funny! Now let’s talk about the restaurant : we have been amazed by the food quality. The Turkish chef : Samet was coming to our table every days to have our feedback and proposed us special meals. Indeed he is really gifted and passionated. The all restaurant team was very nice and warm-full We had as well enjoyed one hour massage with professional therapists; our treatment was so relaxing... Again a special thanks to all the committed Raffles staff who made our Maldives holidays unforgettable... S&N

I have been to 20+ resorts in The Maldives and the difference between Raffles and the rest was: Raffles was one of the smallest islands and cutest of all. It took us around 5 minutes approximately to walk the whole island and thus it truly felt special to be there. Also, the majority of the Maldivian resorts had buffets, but at Raffles, you will find more A la carte options. This means that the food here will be more delicious than the other islands as the focus is on quality, not quantity. To add, Our beach villa was pretty nice. It had a large jacuzzi inside, Swimming pool, Hammocks and beach in our garden. I also liked the gym a lot as it's over the water. Thanks to the staff and the managers, I had an awesome time here. I came back refreshed and inspired for the future. Hoping to be back one day!

We stayed for a week at this amazing resort in early March 2020, just before the pandemic hit in earnest and everything shut down. Many guests had already canceled, and the place was probably at 20% capacity at the most. It was clear that the resort and the country in general were already bracing for the economic hit that was going to come with the disappearance of tourism. Despite the crazy situation, it turned out to be an amazing, wonderful short family vacation. We stayed at a family beach villa on the main island and were then upgraded to an overwater family vila. Both were gorgeous and luxurious. As others have pointed out, the beds are enormous (way bigger than king size) and plush. The beach villa was somewhat larger than the overwater villa and also had a bigger bath, but the overwater villa had a nicer pool and, of course, a more special location. The food was fantastic and they were able to cater to special dietary needs (stated at the time we made the reservation) seamlessly. The breakfast, included in the room rate, was out of this world. Make sure to try the Turkish breakfast at least once (one of the chefs is Turkish and he knows his stuff!) The quality of the homemade baked goods in particular was outstanding and somewhat unexpected given the remote location. The Japanese-Peruvian restaurant in the overwater section of the resort is also fabulous. You are, of course, going to eat all of your meals at the resort. We were offered a half-board or a full-board option when we booked but we declined both, preferring to pay a la carte. This turned out to be the right call as we ended up paying less for food and drinks than we would have with either of the board plans - and we certainly never went hungry. We spent much of our time snorkeling the “house reef.” It is beautiful and crawling with coral fish. The drop zones are easily accessible both from the beach and from the overwater villas. We also saw turtles, reef sharks, several kinds of rays (but no mantas), and lobsters. As long as you don’t expect pristine live coral everywhere (like everywhere else in the Maldives, the reef suffered from bleaching in the early 2000s) the snorkeling will not disappoint. We actually saw quite a bit of new live coral beginning to regrow on the reef. As for the service, it completely exceeded our expectations, even though our expectations were sky high, this being the Raffles. Our butler, Wahdood, treated us with a perfect combination of attentiveness and unobtrusiveness. He was fantastic with our children, helped us select our daily activities, and treated us to a wonderful villa upgrade halfway through our stay. Wahdood was particularly great helping us out with a couple of minor mishaps (a sea urchin accident while snorkeling and a watch left at the airport on our way back home). Everyone else at the resort pitched in to make our stay perfect in every way - the restaurant staff who knew our names, food and drink preferences within an hour of meeting us; the chefs who came to our table to check on our food; the young Italian marine biologist who gave personal hands-on lectures to our kids; the in-house Indian doctor; the Maldivian manager who gave one of us a speedboat lift to the nearest hospital (for the said sea urchin incident) and then a tour of the neat little town (Tinadhoo) in which the hospital was located; the French guest experience manager who checked on how our stay was going at least twice a day. We are deeply grateful to them all and we can’t help thinking of them in the difficult times that everyone has been going through since we left this little peace of paradise. The virus has destroyed so much but hopefully, when it’s all over, business will return and tourists will come back to experience everything that this place has to offer. We would certainly like to come back!
