We decided to stay several days at Ryokan around onsen areas. Niwa was chosen because it was the only ryokan with a private bathtub. Many onsen ryokans have public baths only. We, however, tried a public bath here for the first time. We heard many rumors about Japanese bathing. We have found they are not accurate. Rooms are typical Japanese styled, very comfortable and clean, with a western toilet.
My room faces the front and has a very good view of the distant rice fields across the river.
Hot springs- the indoor one is very hot, while the outdoor one is just right. Since i'm here in the middle of Summer, I stayed at the outdoor one most of the time. Although temperature is in the upper 20s in the daytime, it drops to around 20 at night, making the hot spring a good relaxing bath.
And the food- the shop is famous for a kind of trout, which is prepared either barbequed or as a sushi. A bit worried about having fresh...
