You have probably forgotten what are mornings in the countryside like? Peace, quiet, fresh air, a rooster crowing or a tractor humming in the distance, smell of freshly cut grass. Leisure, tranquility, a firm bed, downy covers … the time stops. You will suddenly find yourself thinking; »How about staying for another day or two?«We cook for all, both for us and for our guests. You will eat as though you are staying at our place as our guests, which you actually are. We will offer you smoked trout, game dishes, mushrooms or pumpkin soup in the autumn, side dishes made of fresh herbs and fruit goodies or grandma’s strudel for desert in the summer. Therefore, food from the home garden, the nearby forest or from the Krka River. There is always enough fresh white, rye or buckwheat bread.

An enchanting stay in the midst of Slovenia's misty countryside. This delightful guesthouse was the perfect pitstop on our way to Croatia. The hosts were warm and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The rooms were clean and cozy, providing a peaceful night's sleep.

The food was a real standout, from the delicious trout appetizers to the mouthwatering veal roast with an irresistible sauce. Every bite was a delight.

Whether you're passing through or planning a longer stay, this guesthouse has it all. We'll definitely be back and highly recommend it to everyone!

One of the most extraordinary stays I’ve had! Excellent food, wine and service. I felt like I was a guest in someone’s house.

The rooms, the restaurant, the garden. Everything beautiful and every single item in its right place.

I will come back. 🤩

Stopped on our way to Croatia. Easy to find. Immediate relaxing atmosphere after a long drive. Very friendly staff, nice rooms (with balcony and nice view), very good diner with local ingredients. Enjoyed a very good breakfast on the terrace.

Our family decided to spend 6 nights in Slovenia after a visit to the coast in Croatia to help break up the vacation. I am not sure how we picked Domacija Novak as the place to stay, but are we ever glad we did!! As a lover of rest, relaxation, food and wine we hit the jackpot! Daily we were treated to meals prepared by Miriam that were heavenly. And Boris kept our wine glasses full like we were rock stars!! The locals who eat and drink there were very friendly and full of life. The kids had a great time biking, swimming in the river, gardening and sleeping in the hayloft. We are already scheming of how and when we are going to return because we can't stay away for long! LOVE this place and thinks other families would love it too.

Our party of six recently had the good fortune to spend three days at Domacija Novak, and felt it was the highlight of our trip to Slovenia. The Novak family members are warm and attentive hosts, the accommodations are immaculate and well-appointed, and the food and wine exceptional. Miriam sets a wonderful table, with an emphasis on organic, locally grown foods (many items from her own gardens), and Boris happily shares his extensive knowledge of regional and organic wines -- do try the "orange" wine! Three of our party spent several days fishing; licenses can be purchased right at the inn, and Boris will share insights on the good fishing spots. The rest of us had wonderful walks in the country, enjoyed the inn's gardens and vistas, and visited towns in the area for sightseeing. We definitely recommend Domacija Novak, and look forward to our next visit there.

The Novak Lodge is much more than what Americans call a Bed & Breakfast. I learned so much about cooking and foraging. Miriam has a special relationship with plants as food and medicine. I only wish I had more days to go foraging with her and really learn about the local flora.

The Novak Lodge is inviting, clean, rustic and elegant at the same time. I felt naturally at home, which is rare for me outside my own domicile. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious. My room had the added bonus of a balcony and a bucolic view of the neighborhood.

Miriams’s cooking was unsurpassed, as were her cooking lessons and demonstrations. Waking up to the mouth-watering aroma of homemade croissants was a natural alarm clock for me. Breakfasts included a wide array of cheeses and meats, homemade jams, luscious yogurt from the farm and fresh eggs with deep amber yolks. The lunches and dinners were delicious and beautifully presented. All garnishes, flowers and herbs alike, were edible. The service, provided by their assistants and sons, was impeccable.

Boris’ wine cellar and vast knowledge of wines were awe-inspiring. I quickly learned not to empty my glass if I wanted to remain sober. Boris was promptly at my side pouring me more of his delectable wines. He also provided a brilliant salt-encrusted trout demonstration where the finished product melted in my mouth.

Boris and Miriam’s warmth, generosity and knowledge made my stay unforgettable. I hope to return soon.

On a fishing trip with a friend we stopped into Domacija Novak with the intent to stay one night-- perhaps two-- whilst fishing the nearby streams. Well, we enjoyed it so much we stayed for three nights and would have gladly stayed a week. The proprietors, Boris and Miriam Novak and family are superb hosts, very friendly, knowledgeable and talented. We enjoyed Miriam's excellent home cooked meals emphasizing local and homemade products and ingredients, accompanied by one of the finest selections of wines I've seen. Additionally, Boris is an expert on naturally made "Orange Wines", produced in the regions along the Italian-Slovenian border. These wines are fantastic, as are his reds and whites. Whether you are a fisherman, gourmand, oenophile, all three, or simply someone looking for a relaxing, friendly stay somewhere with great food and hospitality, you won't be disappointed with Domacija Novak. When next I'm in the area I will definitely return. It's that good. Hvala lepa druzina Novak!

We spent unforgettable four days in a friendly environment of Domacja Novak at the beginning of May. Even though our main objects of the holiday-break were hiking and fishing, thanks to Miriam and Boris´ cuisine our stay became a gastronomic paradise.
We appreciated not only inventiveness of meals but mainly quality freshness and the organic origin of all ingredients. It was amazing to watch Miriam preparing everyday menu with a sense for a balanced taste together with emphasis on thorough preparation from home made ingredients. We were offered smoked local trout fillets decorated with diminutive flowers, herb risotto or veal and in stews prepared vegetable. Hearty breakfast was a delightful everyday experience. We tasted local farm cheeses and bacon, yogurt with homemade oat flakes, freshly baked sweet treats that in combination with homemade jam and strong nice espresso tasted excellently.
We regarded highly Boris´ professional knowledge of wines and especially his hobby for orange wine which we tasted together. Although they had several guests in their restaurant, he always found time to explain in detail everything about orange wines and to initiate us into the mysteries of organic production, which is his philosophy of life.
The couple gives the impression of so rare organic harmony so we warmly recommend to all, who enjoy eating nevertheless pay attention to quality, experience Domačja Novak personally. As a reward you will explore harmony of variegated flavours, nice and friendly owners that you will be happy to visit again and again. The style of rustic accommodation with a nice view of surrounding landscape intensifies your senses.

Situated in a small, peaceful village overlooking the Krka river valley...this lovingly restored B&B has it all: great food, wine, rooms, conversation, and of course- exceptional hosts! The Novak family makes you feel right at home and the location serves as a great jumping off point to go hiking, sightseeing, fishing, or nothing it all! If you like to fly fish, like me, the incredible Krka river is a short drive away. You can purchase the license at the B&B (very convenient) and Boris can give you advice regarding good fishing spots! After a long day on the river...nothing's better than a hearty home-cooked meal (prepared by Miriam), complemented by an incredible array of Slovenian/Italian wines and of course great conversation with other guests! I highly recommend the Domacija Novak for your next Slovenian destination/adventure!
