We came back after a 4 night stay at the Mar Alimuri. We normally go away for city breaks to celebrate our respective milestone birthdays and past stays we were made to feel special. The hotel staff would get out of their way to accommodate us without hesitation. I understand that this was a bargain break however, I feel that the room at least needs to be cleaned at some standard!! I shared a room with my sister, we noticed the sheets were dirty, stained and had a few holes likewise the velvet blue pillows. I mentioned this to the receptionist and I was advised it will be cleaned. To my astonishment when we came back from dinner in the evening, the bedding was as it was. Again I contacted the reception, the guy advised it cannot be changed and there is nothing he can do. This is frustrating I asked that at least we should be given something to cover the dirty bed. We were given some sheets. The following morning I walked down to reception, the lady was not helpful she told me she wrote the wrong room number and that it will be cleaned later. No apology!! I showed her the pictures and I told her it is unacceptable to be sleeping on a dirty bed when it was suppose to be a nice relaxing birthday break. She never said much but said it will be cleaned and I also noticed she muttered something to the tour rep standing at the reception. We deliberately put toothpaste near the taps to check if this would be cleaned. It was not likewise toiletries were not replenished. Furthermore we both had insect bites on our body. Unfortunately my sister had a worse reaction. I hardly slept during our stay and I was missing my clean bed at home. The food served was more geared towards meat eaters and I note that they were heavily seasoned. I struggled at breakfast - just eggs, no lactose intolerance or gluten free catered for. The manager had a sense of humour when serving the wrong dish to us. The entertainment on Friday and Sunday was nice. To summarise I feel that there is some customer service training required to ensure consistency. The rooms needs to be cleaned for a good night's sleep. The restaurant need to lighten the seasoning and the decor needs some uplifting to keep to the 4 star standard.

Just come back from here after reading the negative comments on here about the upkeep/painting. Yes it needs a tad updating but the place is absolutely beautiful. No expense spared on decor internally, it’s beautiful. Breakfast has a very good selection, evening meal was hit and miss but that’s because of our taste rather then their cooking. There’s a little restaurant right in front to the left we found on the last night. You cannot see it from the balcony unless you look over the wall. Food was amazing and reasonable! Restaurant and reception staff were amazing, bar staff bit miserable.

We had four night's stay here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food especially was fantastic - please pass on compliments to the chefs! Every evening meal was a huge treat. The waiters also were extremely professional and friendly. Great location right on the beach, beautiful views with incredible sunsets. Thankfully there is a shuttle bus to take you into Sorrento - we would have struggled without this free service. Very nice staff and the hotel interior is lovely. We enjoyed the evening entertainment in the bar!

Just spent a week at the ‘4 star’ Alimuri hotel near Sorrento, it was disappointing. The hotel is very tired and in need of renovation and updating. The room we were allocated was very small, it was at the rear of the hotel facing the road and was very noisy. The room facilities on offer were non-existent, no coffee or milk, the mini bar fridge was empty and switched off on arrival, there were no towels in the bathroom. On the first morning we made a request to move to a room with a sea view, we were told they would arrange it for the following day, we continued to ask each day and never achieved the move. The reception staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful (other than sorting out our request for a room change). Sorrento was a 25 minute bus ride from the hotel and a courtesy bus was laid on at 10.30, 12.00, 15.00 and 18.00, returns from Sorrento were also available. Places on the courtesy bus were limited and required booking 24 hours in advance. On a number of occasions guests who had booked return journeys were left stranded in Sorrento due to the bus being full. Local buses were available and dropped off at a bus request some 200 yards from the hotel, alternatively you can get on the train at Sorrento and get off at Meta, it is then a 20 minute walk to the hotel. Food at the hotel was plentiful but it was a little predictable. Breakfast was served buffet style and provided everything you would expect in both cooked and continental styles. We were on a half board basis and ate dinner in the restaurant each evening. By and large, the staff were very pleasant and attentive however the head waiter/sommelier could be a little surly at times, the food was average at best, too much oil for my liking and not always hot. The hotel is advertised as a ‘spa’ hotel, it was disappointing that this facility was closed for the duration of our holiday, this was not mentioned when booking. The pool area is large with plenty of quality sun loungers, the pool itself is only small. Access to the stones beach is via some steps from the terrace, bathing was forbidden for 3 days during our stay due to adverse weather conditions. We booked our holiday with TUI, the outbound flight was delayed an hour, it was organised chaos on arriving at Naples. We were met by a young TUI rep who failed to provide any meaningful instruction of where to pick up the transfer bus. It was only by following other passengers that we managed to find the bus and that was after dragging our cases the quarter of a mile through the dark streets to the bus park. The TUI rep at the hotel was conspicuous by her absence, we only saw her at the initial welcome meeting which was solely an organised trip selling session. Overall, a disappointing experience, the hotel in nowhere near a 4 star establishment, it is tired and in need of an update.

Four Star – No – More like Fawlty Towers We have just returned from a one week stay at the 4 star ‘Mar Alimuri Hotel’ in Meta, Sorrento. Although the hotel was billed as 4 star, staying there was more like taking part in an episode of Fawlty Towers. The staff are the hotel’s greatest asset. Our room and balcony (see photos) We had paid extra for a seaview room. The room was set back overlooking a maintenance area and the seaview was marred by an ugly peeling wall. Yes, you could see the sea if you looked straight ahead but looking down or sideways was less than pleasant. The balcony railings were rusty. The smokers gathered directly under our balcony which bought an unpleasant smell into our room when the doors were open. The room itself was tiny with inadequate storage space for clothes and no where to store 2 suitcases. There are no hooks on the wall to hang bags or coats. On arrival no bottled water or tea making facilities were provided in the room. While we were at dinner on our first evening, 2 tea cups and some tea appeared in our room but no kettle. Reception did provide a kettle on request. The phone in the room did not work and some of the electric sockets were cracked. The bed was hard as rock. The bathroom (see photos) The bathroom was in dire need of replacement. The bath plug did not fit the bath and had been left on the side. The water did not drain away properly from the sink or the bath. The fittings were rusty and the shower curtain had some unpleasant marks on it. The towels were worn and very thin. There was no where in the bathroom to hang wet towels after use. The hairdryer was so weak it wouldn’t have dried a comb over, let alone a full head of hair. Other events For two nights running we were awoken at 3am by the Italian guest in the room next door. He went to his room drunk, shouting and singing both in the corridor and in his room. When we asked him to be quiet he displayed his excellent knowledge of English swear words. The next night was even more dramatic. We awoke at 6am to find the bed was an island surrounded by water. The water was coming at a steady rate from beneath the wardrobe. We alerted reception who were not worried at all. They gave us towels to mop the floor and said the maintenance man starts work at 7am. We created a dam of towels around the base of the wardrobe to try and stem the flow and attempted to dry the rest of the floor. Our clothes in the wardrobe were damp. We piled all of our clothes and other things into a heap on the bed to try and keep them dry. The maintenance man arrived at 9am and knew what the problem was immediately, I’m guessing he had seen it all before. Reception told us to pack our things and said when we returned from our day out, our luggage would be in a new room. We completely packed before setting out for our day at Pompei. We were exhausted before we went out for the day because we had been mopping up and packing since 6am. We returned from Pompei expecting an upgraded room to make up for all the inconvenience. We were sorely disappointed. Our packed luggage was still in our original room and that was where we were staying. Not a bottle of wine or bunch of flowers in sight. No apology. Nothing. We did however find a used ashtray and ash on the patio table, so we guess the balcony was used as a cigarette break during the clear up. Halfboard We had opted for half board and deeply regretted this. There are two hotel menus. One for those on half board and one for those on A la Carte. Let’s just say the half board menu was not what you would expect in a 4 star hotel and was nothing like the food on the A La Carte menu. There are 3 beautiful restaurants directly in front of the hotel on the seafront and I would suggest you eat there. We chose to pay to eat in the sea front restaurants and we saw other guests on half board doing the same. The pool and beach The pool is tiny and very cold. The beach is also tiny and not very nice. If you are after a sunbathing holiday there are definitely nicer places to stay.

Although the hotel has great views and the staff were helpful and cheery that’s about as good as it gets. The hotel is traditional and elaborate but is now tired and a bit shabby. The location is ok if you want a quiet spot but is too far to walk to much. We were apparently upgraded to a suite, I’d already booked a sea view and balcony, which a tiny table and 2 chairs just fitted so you could squeeze in, so this was a good size room with a jacuzzi, but would rather have had a comfy chair or two, had just one upright chair. TV was totally Italian, would expect an English speaking news channel or something, so couldn’t use that. The cleanliness was lacking, beds ok but floor not swept or clean, broken glass top on table. Bathroom needs refit so probably impossible to get looking clean. The food was seriously poor. So unappatizing, stodgy, not hot, coffee appalling. Had to go to town for dinner as mostly inedible. Even breakfast could have been so much better. That was a problem as shuttle bus comes back at 6pm or 10.40pm, times were not great and gets booked up. The hotel beach is small and stoney but is just steps off the terrace, the pool area is ok but only time we wanted to use the pool bar it was closed. All just a bit disappointing, especially the food.

We spent a week here in September 2022. A four star hotel it is not. Lets start with the bad points first, the Hotel is tired on the exterior, building maintenance must be improved rusty balcony railings, rendering chipping off the exterior walls\ Easily remedied over the winter shutdown and should be done from an aesthetic point. Good Points, some excellent and courteous staff, particularly in the lobby and dining area's and the sunset views are STUNNING. Food - Very good, but don't expect all you can eat fare. Breakfasts are more than adequate with cooked food (bacon, eggs, sausages, spicy beans) Cold fare (Cereal, cold meats, cheese, salmon, yoghurt bread and pastries). In the evening there are set meals, three courses, starters, mains and sweets and salads as an option all waiter serviced. The pool is adequate, but colder that the sea which is a short walk away so we only used the pool twice. Beach is accessed by steps and is mainly stone and shingle so shoes are recommended. Spa unfortunately was closed. Rooms and internal decors kept very clean and tidy, room staff clearly work hard. Overall, a really pleasant stay and would happily return. Points to note - Do not get Taxis, they are a rip off. There is a shuttle bus to Sorrento - well worth it as it is free (except at night when they charge 1 euro). Recommend walking through the tunnel and catching a bus from the traffic lights at the top of the hill to the train station where you can catch a train into Pompeii, Hurculaneum or Naples at around 5-7 Euros. Be advised though, this is not a location for people with walking or disability issues.

This is definitely not a 4* hotel, maybe it was once in it's heyday but not anymore. But first the positives, the hotel is in a beautiful location in Meta, towering cliffs surround it and the view across the bay to Sorrento is wonderful. The staff are polite and very friendly and the service was excellent. We only had breakfasts there but the selection was good, choices of cooked breakfasts, pastries, cereals etc. Tea and coffee is out of a machine but was fine, the fruit juice from a machine was disgusting though. Now the negatives, the hotel itself is in desperate need of a complete renovation, it is so run down, the plaster on the walls outside is falling away, the floors are chipped, paintwork outside is rusting and the exterior furniture has seen better days. Our room was a twin with a balcony over looking the bay. The room was clean and the bedding was clean and crisp. The light wasn't great as half the bulbs didn't work, the toilet wasn't secured to the floor, someone had tried to use some sealant to secure it (only halfway round) but that hadn't worked. The bath had enamel worn away and again some poor sealant application all round it. Also the extractor fan didn't work. In the room there was a strange radio system fitted into the wall, but a, it didn't work and b, it was installed upside down. Be warned, if you have a room facing the bay be prepared to be kept awake by, what in my opinion, was the worst hotel entertainment ever blaring out. It was a singer using a synthesizer, and it was very dated and awful (that's my own personal opinion). It's such a shame as this hotel could be so much better, but it is in need of some updating desperately.

The disappointment of this hotel and the holiday I should have enjoyed left me to depart the hotel 9 days earlier without any refund from a 20 night stay. Booking for room was well in advance and requested high floor with sea view and balcony. First room I was booked in had very little view and extremely noisy with the music at night and fireworks display. After complaints moved to second room which still had the noise. Floor was filthy and next morning I asked for sweeping brush and swept the room myself and washed the floor with a hotel hand towel. After 4 days requested change of sheets due to filthiness of the floor. Cleaning lady was offensive after I decided to clean own room. Manager was not helpful Phone in room only worked certain times leaving me isolated with outside world as my mobile phone did not work. Breakfast was OK but the same every day. Waiters were poor and couldnt be bothered with guests. Pool was often closed and not used. No spa or indoor pool. No tea/coffee facilities. Managed to get cup/saucer and jug but no tea, coffee or milk. No information in the room as to working the shower or what facilities was available at the hotel. International phone calls were not always transferred to the room. I am a seasoned traveller and this is the worst holiday I have ever experienced and it will take a long time for me to recover. I will never recommend this hotel. The only positive aspect is the lovely views of the bay.
