Sometimes one has to give reviews that are not glowing. I don‘t like to do that, it‘s much easier to say something nice about a place, but with this hotel I have to say: Reader take warning. The bathrooms in this hotel are absolutely inacceptable. What‘s the big problem, you may ask? Well, I‘ll tell you. Shower and toilet are both riding on pedestals. That means, when you step out of the shower, you actually have to take a step down. And if you don‘t pay great attention, this could lead to a slip and you could hurt yourself badly. As I did, luckily only on my elbow. Same with the toilet: Step up, step down. The most ridiculous design flaw one could imagine. Oh, and before I forget. Above the toilet is a shelf (picture number 2). In case you thought, you could get away without hitting your head, think twice. Other than that, it‘s an okay hotel with friendly management.

Enjoyed four nights here and were made to feel very welcome. Our Italian was very limited and their English also limited but better! Very comfortable well furnished rooms. Only complaint was that they were very warm and we struggled to turn the heating down! Fantastic location on the main village square. Plenty restaurants and bars nearby. Ski shuttle bus stop immediately outside and only 5 minutes to the ski lift. Breakfast could have been more imaginative but sufficient. Enjoyed two evening meals but again a limited menu probably due to being mid week and not very busy. Lovely wines. Would definitely recommend staying here and excellent value.

My husband and I wanted to spend Christmas in the Alps and chose this beautiful village for our stay. Because of trip advisor we chose this venue. We were very surprised when we arrived to be given a two bedroom unit with two balconies. The lady Angela double checked with the owner to make sure that this was OK for only two people. She came back and said yes it was fine. We were very happy with the beautiful outlook as we are both photographers and thrilled we could just go out on the balcony and snap away. We went downstairs shortly thereafter and had a nice two course lunch with wine. The food was certainly not exceptional but nice enough and very reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful and you could not have a better location right on the main piazza and right at the bus stop as we had no car. We did not choose the half or full board option as we wanted to try other venues in town. We had booked in for four nights and then planned on going home however there was a very heavy snow fall and an avalanche closed the road to buses for a day and also knocked out the power in the village. Our hotel responded admirably by supplying candles in the stair wells and of course at dinner. The chef I think must have been amazing at cooking for the guests under those circumstances. We discovered to our dismay that the buses were not getting through the next day so I asked the owner if it would be possible to stay another night possibly longer if we had no way of leaving. He said that one additional night would not be a problem and we could stay in the same room However if we decided to stay longer we would have to change rooms which of course we were happy with. As it turned out we only needed one more night which we again confirmed the next morning. However at around 5 PM Angela and another lady arrived to tell us we had to move immediately as a family of four needed the room. I understood that it was a large room but we were both annoyed that we had reconfirmed and now were given no notice but to move instantly which we did. We were given a room I can only describe as a tiny shoe box, so small that we had a difficult time walking around the bed. The door to the tiny balcony hit the side of the bed so you kind of had to go sideways to get out the door. Not impressed! I can not say for certain but we believe that most of the rooms in this hotel are very small which may not be a problem for some but for us it was a bit over the top. When it came time to pay the bill we found that instead of the normal computer print out we were given a hand written bill which I might add was done from memory! Angela had charged us for a meal we never had but did agree to alter the invoice after I protested. When we first arrived we looked at the menu and the wine list and noticed a Nero D'Avola which is a red and not expensive which we quite like. The price on the menu was around the 14 to 16 Euro mark. They didnt have any that day but were supposed to get a shipment the next day. So the next time we had lunch we ordered a bottle. On the final bill we were charged 30 Euros for that bottle. I was stunned but at this point I was not happy and just wanted to leave so went ahead a paid for it. Ok I should have asked the price when I ordered the bottle but because the menu stated that it was not expensive it did not occur to me we would get zapped. Would we go back to his hotel? Never.

Nice hotel, well situated in the Staffa part of Macugnaga. It's possible to walk to the Staffa cable car and the bus to the Pecetto area (which takes about 10 min) stops right next to the hotel. The owners are very helpful and the food is v nice and certainly not repetitive even if you are on half board. rooms are relatively small but clean and well looked-after.
