There are really no words to describe how luxurious and comfortable Lions Valley Lodge really is. Outstanding comes to mind. How about Superb? Our suite – the appropriately named “Romance” – was enormous, gorgeous, filled with light, comfortable, hedonistic. Appropriately for the region, all stone, thatch, wood, and light. In two cases, I did not get what I wanted – a room assigned near the main facilities and no bath tub but.... Not to worry. Golf cart pick up and delivery on demand – one just doesn't walk in Nambiti; the animals own the territory; we are their guests. Tub overlooking the valley? No problem. Use one of the two showers instead – one outside, the other inside with views of giraffes that might amble nearby. The hosts knew better than I did exactly what I would love.

Huge mistake on our part – we should have stayed longer. Three nights (and 5 game drives) just didn't give us enough time to relax and enjoy the fabulous accommodations. We were too busy. I can see why some of the other guests have returned several times to Lions Valley. They also far preferred Nambiti over Kruger NP, but I cannot comment personally about that, having never been to Kruger; but, if I were ever in South Africa again, I would head back to Lions Valley set amid rolling hills, valleys, and mountains. We certainly saw plenty of animals, thanks to the park management and our driver, Jordan – lions, elephants, white rhinos, tons of giraffes (my favorite), zebras, warthogs, wildebeest, kudu, Cape Buffalo, and even 2 cheetahs strolling along with our vehicle. Two hippos have taken up residence in the Lodge's pond.

Not only is Lions Valley beautiful, it is beautifully managed. The three ladies who seem to run the place were efficient, friendly, cheerful, and always available. They have also decided not to expand (they have the land to do so), but to remain smaller, more intimate in order to provide personalized service and keep the prices affordable. Their decision certainly works to the advantage of the guests. The central area includes spaces opens to the environment but closed off with glass partitions – open decks, infinity pool, comfortable library for quite times, a bar for post-drive gatherings, open terrace for breakfast and lunch, fireplace dining room for dinner. The outdoors define the interiors.

Meals were serve at appropriate times – breakfast following the early game drive; dinner following the afternoon drive, but with time for cocktails or a freshen-up. The spa – wonderful massage – is an added bonus. Each drive stops for either coffee and biscuits at dawn or a wine break at sunset. Quite civilized, I thought.

Frankly, I don't know what else to say other than Lions Valley should head everyone's list. Absolutely everything was gorgeous, beautifully run, and a delight. I want to be there again – right now, this minute.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review of your stay at Lions Valley Lodge. On the Guest Reservation Sheet that you completed before your arrival, you indicated that you had a mobility issue and that is why you were allocated a suite that required being transported in a golf cart. All the suites have two bath tubs, his and her indoor showers and 8 of the 10 suites also have his and her outdoor showers. We are pleased you were able to make the most of these facilities. Our guests are our priority and the staff at Lions Valley do try to make every guests stay with us a memorable one. I am delighted that you had excellent game viwing during your stay and that you also took the opportunity to experience our beautiful spa. We certainly hope that you will return for a second visit someday. Take care until we meet again.

To each and every one @ Lions Valley Lodge our stay was absolutely spectacular. Each and every staff member went out of their way to make our year end function memorable. A special thanks to Zee and Adri who never dropped the ball for one moment. Admire and Siya were outstanding hosts at the bar and restaurant. Always a friendly word and very professional in their hosting. Thank you to the chefs and kitchen staff for making every meal mouth-watering. We most definitely never went hungry or thirsty. To house keeping, our rooms were kept spotless and turndown was always a sweet experience. It was such a treat to come back to a fresh and cool room after a hot day in the sun. The guides Matt and Lauren, we can’t thank you enough for your outstanding commitment, punctuality, friendliness, outstanding knowledge of the fauna and flora. Your endless efforts in finding the perfect sighting was more than we could ask for. Thank you one and all for making our Company year end function the perfect gift.
To the owners of Lions Valley, you may be proud, as you have hand picked very special people to run and take care of your establishment. At the end of our stay it was like saying good bye to family.

I'm a few weeks home from my trip to South Africa now and I'm still reminiscing from my trip to Lions Valley Lodge.

I booked it very last minute as my plans were changing so much but it was so easy to book. Chanté was so helpful in organising our reservation. I particularly liked that we could fill in the forms needed in advance so when we arrived there was nothing to do but relax with your welcome drink and look around and get to know the place.

The main lodge is beautiful and has a very relaxing atmosphere. It was lovely there and well appointed and all the staff there were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed in The Homestead lodge and it was simply stunning. This is definitely one of the nicest rooms I have ever stayed in. Spacious, cozy, clean and very well laid out. The outdoor shower was amazing. The location of our room meant we needed to get a golf cart to and from the main lodge for safety, but there was a phone beside the bed and Adri was always so helpful in organising the cart within 2 or 3 minutes at most.

The rooms were beautifully cleaned and turned down each evening on return from the game drives. I had been traveling a lot before our arrival and it was no issue to have some of our clothes washed during our stay. This was so helpful and really appreciated at the time.

The only thing I would have changed about the room is to have the bushes cut down slightly. I could hear the wildlife right outside but not see anything. This is very much a personal preference though. I'm sure others would prefer privacy as the balcony faces out front.

The game drives with Stefan were the highlight of our trip to Lions Valley Lodge. From the moment he picked us up in the carpark to drive us in to the lodge, to dropping us back when leaving, he was so friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. He really went out of his way to try to fulfill our expectations. The drives were so enjoyable, in perfectly appointed comfortable 4x4s. Everything from the blankets, drinks, treats etc were all lovely. Stefan could tell straight away what kinds of wildlife the small group we were part of were interested in or not, and when extra people joined our group later in our stay, he made sure to take the time to get to know what they were most interested in seeing too. We saw everything except leopards which is to be expected as it is rare. We saw lots of small animals too which was great. Stefan was great at spotting things!

The glass of sherry and hot towels on arrival back from each game drive were also a lovely touch.

Thank you so much to everyone at Lions Valley Lodge for our wonderful stay!

Amazing Private Lodge. 5 stars!!!!
Where one could see all 5 of the big 5 on your visit.

On arrival, one is welcomed by staff with a hot towel and welcome drink, and when returning from your daily game drive morning and afternoon.
All the staff at the Lodge are very professional and friendly. One feels welcome throughout your stay.
The setting is out of this world, open space reception and infinity pool overlooking a lake where 3 Hippo have taken up residence.
Rooms are very spacious with 2 individual baths. 2 individual indoor and outdoor showers.
Beds are very comfortable with fresh crisp linen that await you after a day out. For me the best touch was the lions valley logo, embroidered on the top centre of the linen. Turn down service with a chocolate on your pillow every night. "sweet dreams".
Breakfast lunch and dinner at the restaurant overlooking the valley is superb the quality and presentation of food is 5 star.
Having 2 treatments in the Spa was outstanding making us feel relaxed and up for another early morning game drive.
Twice a day you go on a game drive. The Ranger is extremely knowledgeable and takes time to show you round the reserve in search for the most game possible to see.
We were very lucky to see 4 of the big 5 and a few Hippo of course........

Thank you very much to all..........Tony D UK

We was shocked at our experience and recent stay at lions lodge after reading the reviews we decided to book lions valley.
We found the staff extremely unprofessional and unhelpful constant remarks behind and in front of us.
On the night before our last day after our stormy freezing game drive we came back to a lodge with no fire the lodges are open which we understand but no fires lit nor in the lodges at what is suppose to be a luxury lodge was horrific.

The next morning on the game drive we were offered wet blankets shocking not even a hot water bottle the game drive was pointless as we did not see much we felt that there was no proactiveness in communicating with the other game drivers to see where the action was knowledge was very poor.
We had been at another lodge on the site and that was amazing the game driver was very knowledgeable and was very proactive In showing us lots thank you to umzolozolo lodge they were 5 stars.

When we came to lions valley the staff were more interested in if they were better and were very unprofessional in their approach with the catty comments.

Food choices was none at lunchtime and when we sent back some food under cooked and not to our palete no alternative was offered they couldn’t care less.

Breakfast was poor too we expected to be able to have a cold buffet too this had to be ordered and ticked with small portions even asking would we like a small pastry.
The whole thing seemed like they were on a real tight budget we paid over £400 British pounds per night very very poor we did not always get our drinks on the game drive partly due to weather but they could’ve given it to us when we got back to the lodge it just all seemed like cost cutting measures
which we felt a premier inn travel lodge would be more generous.

Racial comments were made by a staff member on their views about Asian community this was very disturbing and unprofessional yet again.

We have stayed and travelled in many many places around the world and this has been by far the worse place we stayed.

No offer of luggage
to be taken to car on our last day the lodge had only 4 guests they new what time we were leaving no offer was made we couldn’t wait to leave and left early after an early breakfast.

The other couple asked for a fire in their lodge the evening before as the place was freezing they were told by a staff member they had no wood for fire in the next 20 mins that staff member was dragging arm load of wood fire to the fire in the dining area.

The list goes on very very disappointing shocking as only a handful of guests were staying here this should’ve been better service.

I appreciate that guest reviews are very subjective, but of the guest comments that were written by guests who stayed at the lodge at the same time as you, there is a massive contradiction between your review and the others received. In fact, I received the following email addressed to me by guests that were on the same game drives with the same guide as you. "Subject: LVL || REFERENCE 1004069 || 26 - 29 OCTOBER || FEEDBACK Dear Lions Valley Lodge Owners Hope you are keeping well. I recently had the privilege of staying at your Lions Valley Lodge in Nambiti Game Reserve, and it was an unforgettable experience. The luxurious accommodations together with the exceptional service, made my stay truly memorable and I can’t wait to return to LVL. Zee went above and beyond from the moment I had enquired up until we had left, and she waved goodbye. She has ensured our comfort and satisfaction throughout our whole stay. Zee, thank you the wonderful person that you are. I had tears in my eyes when I waved goodbye because I have never met people so passionate and kind. Admire and Siya are so enthusiastic, welcoming, and warm. They kept us entertained from the minute we had arrived. Delivering a service with a smile! From carrying cocktails to the pool and water to the gym, serving our meals, sharing our dreams with each other, laughing non-stop, realizing that we know the same people, supporting the Boks, enjoying Springboks, and giving hugs upon saying goodbye. Admire, next time we visit, you need to be in that training routine and Siya, get your camara and dream big! Bianca can be described in one word – Passionate! Always smiling and ready with a joke. She has so much knowledge and we really enjoyed our safari trips. On every trip we had learnt something new. We were privileged to see everything we wanted too except for the leopard. Bianca, next time we are staying until we see the Ingwe! Your biggest asset at LVL is the friendly, kind, humble and knowledgeable employees. The most amazing part is that they had not put up a front but that they truly are passionate, caring, and loving people. Lions Valley Lodge is highly recommended! You will see us again and soon!" I'm sorry the weather was not great for some of the time you were at the lodge and I understand this can put a damper on things. However, I’m sure you appreciate that we have no control over the weather. Unfortunately, when it is cold and wet, the animals also tend to take cover, but I am pleased to know that during your stay you did see 4 of the Big 5, as well as an abundance of plains game. Our guides do communicate by radio with other guides when out on game drives. Sometimes specific animals are just too far away for the guide to get to them during the allotted game drive period. Your claim that there were no fires lit in the lodge is incorrect. I was at the lodge for two nights and there were fires burning in both the bar area and the dining room. I agree that the fire in your suite should have been lit and I discussed this with the staff, and they were lit the following evening. Incidentally there were 10 guests in-house on your first 2 nights and 14 on your last night and not 4 as you suggest. Your comment about the staff making racist comments is offensive, and I do not for one minute believe this to be true as this is a dismissible offence. We are in the hospitality industry and all our guests are very important to us as is obvious from 99 percent of the reviews we receive. I was informed that you chose not to join the staff and other guests in the conference room on the Saturday to watch the Rugby World Cup final. This is a pity as I know a great exciting time was had by all and the shots that we call, “Springboks” were flowing. “No offer of luggage to be taken to the car..” is false. I saw you with your suitcases and I informed you that you should leave your bags as your guide would come and fetch your luggage once you got to the main lodge. You declined that this should happen. I am sorry that you were so disappointed with your stay at Lions Valley, however I think criticism should be constructive and not based on untruths!

Our break at Lions Valley was really fantastic! The really good things were the rooms (more like apartments really), which are stylishly furnished and very generous with space and amenities! We also appreciated the cleanliness of the rooms – they were tidied up daily and guests are also given an option of not wanting this done for Covid reasons. The food was really very good, especially when Chef Mercy came on duty – we were so well fêted – from breakfast to dinner, with desserts accompanying every lunch and dinner menu! The service was also unsurpassed and nothing was too much to ask. The staff were always willing to assist, courteous and friendly and really made us feel at home. We loved the peace and quiet of the place, especially the views from our room. Only managed to see the big 4 out of 6 (still think rhino should be included with the big 5). The cheetah and leopard were as elusive as ever but that did not diminish our experience!

It started in the car park; Stefan's enthusiasm & broad SMILE was a reflection of exactly how the Management & Staff at the lodge are. We were met with openness. The lodge is very well maintained, every single room and area neat and clean. The pool is super clean and crystal clear - no suction cleaner or pool net or brush in sight. Drinks are always Ice Cold, food is Great, tasty, well presented and more than enough. Staff are not pretentious or in your face but always available. We were even treated to a starter one afternoon in the bush, some nice wors on the braai with ice cold drinks and camp chairs around the fire - what a nice surprise for our group.
Then we have Stefan, "what a boytjie", such an energetic and great guide. We enjoyed every single game drive, learnt so much and had many great laughs. Just love his knowledge of the animals & birds and seeing his EXCITEMENT every time he sees a bird. Well Done Stefan and Thank You.
Obviously, a nice stay and a great venue like this is only possible with great leadership. Adri presented herself and Lions Valley Lodge in the most affable way - "big kudos" to Adri and everyone in the team at the Lodge. THANK YOU, Team Lions Valley Lodge, for the wonderful few days spent at the Lodge.

My stay at Lions Valley Lodge was truly unforgettable. The rooms were so beautifully presented and were in the most stunning setting.
From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was exceptional. The food was so incredibly delicious with too often finding ourselves overeating at every meal. It was just too good to not!

Our safari guide, Stefan, was not only meticulous but also incredibly enthusiastic about ensuring everyone's safari dreams came true. He led us on exhilarating adventures through the wilderness, where we had up-close and personal encounters with magnificent animals.

But it wasn't just Stefan who made our stay extraordinary. Zee, who attended to our every need at the lodge, went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. No request was too much for her to handle, and her warm hospitality made our experience even more memorable. Whether it was arranging special meals or addressing any concerns, Zee was always there to make sure everything was perfect.

Perfect weekend away from the city.

Game drives were well organized and informative. 4/big 5 sightings.
Drinks, seating and a fire already arranged for our arrival at the lookout to watch the sunset over the horizon.

Each meal was faultless (specifically enjoyed the chief's creme brulee) and the rooms were a pleasure to stay in...enjoyed heading to bed with electric blankets already switched on, especially with the current temperatures.

All-round, I would say this was great value for money and would like to return again to see those Leopards.

Thanks to the staff for your attentiveness and hope to be back soon!

There are a number of highlights of our stay at Lions Valley, they all generate 10/10. Game drives are amazing, our guide/ranger was Jordan, a fountain of knowledge and passionate about his work from birds, insects, vegetation and of course the animals. Then there is Mercy who produced works of art from the kitchen, the very attentive restaurant staff, the floor managers (a special thank you Blythe) who go out of their way to make you feel very special. The evening bonfires, drinks and snacks, the early morning coffee on the reserve were relaxing while we watched the sunsets and sunrises from view points that you can only see in Africa. We could go on. A most amazing experience in the fresh air and way from the city. Oh and of course do not forget the nighttime canopy of stars that we never see in the city.
The suites are air conditioned but we did not need it, In the summer I am sure that the outside showers are a memorable experience as are the baths with all the veranda doors open. When you are 5 metres away from a lioness with nothing between you makes this experience all the more special. On site covid protocols includes masks, sanitizers and temperature monitoring.

Morning and evening games drives will Be cold in April . You will need a beanie and a jacket for the early morning drives blankets are provided on the drive. Days will be lovely and warm. Evenings do get cold on the drive too . Best to be prepared with a warm jacket with a hood or beanie .

We used Rhino transfers who drove us from Jo'burg to the gate in approx 4 hours. Very easy, good service and reasonable. rhino shuttles . co . za As per the other comments, you will see 4 of the big 5 multiple times I'm sure, but you are unlikely to see leopard (or cheetah) in this reserve as there are so few in this reserve. But I wouldn't let that stop you going!
