You can easily reach Wassu with public transport where it is then just a few kilometers to Kuntaur. The hotel room cost me 550GMD for 1 person, with breakfast and a private bathroom and their WhatsApp is +220 7516138 and they responded to email kairohgarden@gmail.com. Lovely place right on the river where meals are 300GMD. The boat cost 1500GMD for 2 hours and you share the cost with whoever else is there.

We stayed for one night as part of a group tour to see chimp island. Have done this tour before and stayed at a different lodge last year. This lodge was 100 times better! Had a lovely welcome from the owners. The rooms are comfortable, clean, have electricity, a fan and running water. The rooms have verandahs where you can sit and take in the peace. Right on the river and a real gem of a place. Good is good. Breakfast is a choice of bread and jams which comes as part of your room rate and if wanting something cooked there is a slight charge. Really impressed and would certainly recommend to others.

The new rooms are as good as any upriver we saw. Consider non riverview rooms in hot months as they avoid the afternoon sun, so will be cooler in the evening, sure, there is no garden to speak of but it is all about the river. it is worth walking/cycling outside the lodge to see the local colour. One thing that must be done is the red colobus project (C4RC). the eur 35 outing was a bit more expensive than other offerings but was head and above the best thing we did. The guides were very knowlegeable and we learn't. all about local life in the villages and got the inside view. Anybody who gets this far up-river needs to see this and support the project

Absolutely disgusting

We had left our last overnight stay and were heading towards the lodge for a one night stay to see the stone circles and the chimps, all very excited.

We had stopped at a pond for lunch on our way when our guide received a phone call from this lodge telling us they had cancelled our booking due to the Europeans wanting to stay another night. Remember we had booked months prior to arrival and the Europeans had not booked.

No apology or remorse just tough luck, we had no where to stay, thankfully our guide stepped up and sorted it.

I would rather eat cow poop than give this place a good review.

I would put pictures up but they let us down, so there are none.

We stayed one night at Kairoh Garden with our family and loved it! It's a very relaxed place at the river Gambia with basic but clean rooms. They also have rooms with attached bathrooms now for very reasonable prices. The village where the lodge is located is very nice, our kids had lots of fun with the local kids!
We used Kairoh Garden as a base to make a boat trip to the Baboon Islands to see the chimpansees, and we were rewarded with very good sightings!

Stayed here for 1 night whilst here to see Hippos and Chimps. Food really good, accomodations basic but clean. Stayed in one of the newer riverside rooms, with shower toilet, bed with mosquito nets and hanging clothes rail. Shower floor was very slippery when wet, so be careful. Beer was 200GMD and soft drinks 75GMD. Fantastic sunset and sunrise on the river.

What a great place to stay. After we had been on the road for quite a few hours we arrived here to some amazing views, clean bedrooms, lovely food and helpful staff. A great find by the lovely friends we travelled with. So close to the Wassu Sones and able to see the Hippos, Chimps and red colobus monkeys nearby.

We had a really nice stay at Kairoh Garden. Friendly staff, clean spacious rooms with good fans. When we had car troubles they helped us by getting a van and picked us up. I can highly recommend this place and would like to come back when I visit Gambia again.

Great beautiful location. Good service. Delicious food but wow it was warm. A really great experience. By captain Smiley a great experience in a boat on the water. The chimpanzees are allowed to meet. It was really beautiful on the water. Captain Smiley could tell us a lot about all the birds and the chimpanzees. Amazing view.

Last year, my daughter spent 3 months in The Gambia for a practical as a teacher at a primary school near Kotu at the coastal area. With our family we visited her for 2 weeks.
This year, my daughter and I (her mother) went back to The Gambia “to say hello” to the staff of the school and to the people she lived with last year.

During our stay, we wanted to spend 3 days in the neighborhood of Georgetown (Janjanbureh). Still in Belgium, I looked for a nice place to stay for 2 nights. Nothing touristic or crowded, but just a peacefull and authentic place in the middle of the nature. And so I found the Kairoh Garden in Kuntaur.

This is a small village, just at the riverside. Local people, as well as a few tourists live together in a kind of well-equiped compound. Don’t expect any luxury, but rather basic authentic clean rooms equiped with mosquito nets. Shower and toilets are in a separate building but are clean as well !
The very positive points of Kairoh Garden Kuntaur are its splendid location right on the banks of the river Gambia as well as the very friendly staff. The views from the restaurant over the river are undescripable: the sunset, the hippo’s passing by, the silence, the birds, watching the local people, … wooow !
The staff is very helpful; they do not insist at all, but when you ask them something, they will help you wherever they can.
Breakfast is ok, we did not take lunch, but diner is fine as well !

We went to Kuntaur on our own from the westcoast via the Northbank: because of troubles with the ferries at Barra, we took a small pirogue to cross the river. What an experience…(but we would never do this again !). In the bushtaxi garage of Barra, we found a 7-seat right to Georgetown for 300 D per person. We stopped at Wassu where the manager of Kairoh Garden came to pick us with his car to bring us to the lodge. We arrived at about 16 PM.
We fully enjoyed the nice views for the rest of the afternoon and evening.
Sleeping was very tough because it was very hot in the room (but that’s normal upriver).

The next day, we visited Georgetown. For us rather a disappointing place: too touristic and not that much to be seen. We returned by bushtaxi, but got stuck in Wassu, where the monkey car (arranged by Kairoh Garden) came to pick us up. We had a nice drive through the rice fields and the village of Kuntaur. In the afternoon, the staff of Kairoh arranged a boat trip of 3 hours on the river up to Baboon Island and its beautiful surroundings. We saw chimps and other species of monkeys, nice birds, a hippo but no crocodiles. The nature is just splendid !

Next day, we left early in the morning back to the west coast. We took a 7-seat (arranged by Kairoh Garden) up to Farafenni where we crossed the river Gambia. From the other side we took a bushtaxi to Soma garage where we found another 7-seat to Brikama. The road from Soma to Tendaba is very bad, but once near Tendaba it’s just fine again. From Brikama to Westfield by bushtaxi, followed by a short drive by taxi back to the hotel where we arrived at about 4PM.

The trip was splendid; the stay at Kairoh Garden Kuntaur was great ! We were very happy we didn’t stay at Georgetown, but rather at Kuntaur because it is much closer to the Gambian way of living and its location is just very, very nice.
Travelling up to Kuntaur can easily be arranged by yourself: you do not need any private guide or private transport.
