I thought I had posted this on TripAdvisor last year, but I cannot find it, so I am posting this now. Perhaps I posted it on the Bella Baita website. We stayed at Bella Baita for three nights during mid-May and did not want to leave! This is just my kind of place: intimate and welcoming where guests are treated like good friends. We hiked and explored the scenic Waldensian Valleys during the day and then “came home” to a delicious meal prepared by Marla and Fabrizio, who are each professional chefs and very interesting people. BTW, Marla is American so English language communication is a breeze. Fabrizio is Italian and speaks good English. Marla bakes bread, pastries and dessert every day. Fabrizio cultivates a beautiful organic garden and many of the vegetables served at dinner come from his garden. Dinner is at 8 and guests and hosts eat together – it was like a fun dinner party each night. Our room was cozy with a great view and had the most comfortable bed of any during our three-week vacation in France and Italy – firm but soft-topped mattress with flannel sheets. Most fun of all was taking a cooking class – we learned to make several Piedmontese dishes that we can’t wait to prepare at home and serve to our friends. Upon learning that I was researching Waldensian history, Marla invited a Waldensian friend to dinner one night and set up a meeting for me with another Waldensian who was knowledgeable about local history. BTW, if you enjoy history and dramatic scenery this is good place to use as a base for exploring the history of the Waldensians – the only heretical Christians to survive the Inquisition. Turin, which is nearby, is overlooked by most tourists, but it is a vibrant and beautiful city with museums, markets, parks, outdoor cafes and beautiful views. Closer is Pinerole, a fine little city with a market, a cathedral, and an ancient history.

We stayed four nights in Bella Baita and chose the all inclusive walking and cooking package. We had a wonderful time finding about about the local traditions and enjoyed getting out in to the mountains. We enjoyed foraging for mushrooms and cooking them too! Indeed all the cooking classes and the meals were excellent, as our hosts Marla and Febrizio are experts bakers and chefs. This was a very personalised stay and the informality suited us very well.

We just spent a really enjoyable week with Fabrizio and Marla in their wonderful mountain inn in the Piedmont mountains. Our time was spent walking, cooking and sightseeing and we thoroughly enjoyed every aspect. There was 6 of us staying (not a group) and we were all made to feel so welcome that we soon bonded and had a great time together. The Piedmont mountains are glorious to walk in and Fabrizio led us on some spectacular walks which showed them at their best. The cooking classes run by Marla were great fun, time flew by and our attempts at Italian cuisine tasted delicious. Well done Marla. The theme of Bella Baita is ecological tourism supporting and preserving mountain culture and cuisine so, where possible, all the produce used comes from local markets supplemented by produce from their own garden. We had a really fun buying visit to the vibrant local market in Pinerolo as well as visiting local producers – a goats cheese manufacturer, and met the goats, and producer of Mountain Liqueurs. If you want to escape to the quiet of the mountains this is the ideal place to go. Fabrizio and Marla are fantastic hosts and will make you feel like old friends, the food is terrific and the rooms comfortable with most having views to distant peaks.

Bella Baita was recommended by a friend who had stayed and we almost didn't make the detour (Bella Baita is around 50km from Turin). Thank goodness we did! Our short stay was one of the best highlights of a month touring Italy in our motorhome. Marla and Fabrizio were so welcoming: they allowed us to park our motorhome on the grassy verge opposite the house as we had booked in for a day's cookery course the following day. My husband and I were driven by them to the market in the morning and then we spent the afternoon making pasta from scratch, learning to bone a chicken and how to make some delicious sauces. Later that evening 13 of us (this included 9 guest who were staying - French, German, Dutch and Italian) sat down at their long dining room table to sample our cooking. The meal was such fun and I would highly recommend the experience to anyone - whatever their cooking skills! Marla and Fabrizio were lovely warm, friendly people and we hope to return very soon and stay in their welcoming home.

Marla and Fabrizio are the perfect hosts at this relaxing bed and breakfast. Passionate about fantastic food (they have a pizza oven in the dining room), energized about their guests enjoying their stay and rooms that are so relaxing, it's the perfect place to de- jet- lag... cooking classes, guided tours, recommended glorious hikes ... it's all part of the incredibly affordable stay at this home away from home. Can't wait to come back!
