We booked last minute as original hotel had flooded. Greeted by warm and friendly staff. Must say all staff were great throughout stay Good covid precautions in place. We got to our room and we eere really please. It was bright and clean and tastefully furnished. The bed was very comfortable and pillows soft and thick. The TV was a good size .There was a fan in place which was a welcome addition. Tray supplied for tea and coffee well stocked .It had disposable cups too. Food was gorgeous and staff there very nice too. Prices very reasonable. We had a great nights sleep.Didnt hear a sound. We will definitely stay again !

Booked this hotel for a two night stay, for a quiet getaway expecting a nice comfortable and classy hotel. Unfortunately what we found did not meet our expectations or reflect the pictures on the website. The property is currently being renovated and the bar is not in use. Due to COVID measures the restaurant has been cleared out, tables spread out and divided with clear plastic sheeting, chairs have been replaced with clear plastic chairs. Whilst the measures are necessary they make for a very unwelcoming dining experience. The food on offer was reasonably priced, tasty and served hot, staff were friendly and efficient. We were allocated room 118 on arrival, it was a spacious room with a large zip& link bed. A freestanding fan was provided, and after one night we understood why, the room got very warm partly due to the fact the bathroom extractor fan did not work, the window sash cord was broken and the windows seized shut due to layers of paint. During the night the room became uncomfortably hot even with the fan on full and the condensation ran down the windows. We reported the problem the next morning and the receptionist moved us immediately, she didn’t appear surprised about our complaint. The second room was much better, no cooling fan but an opening window So we had a much better night’s sleep. WiFi is apparently available in the public areas, however during COVID measures such areas are not really in use, it is a pity that WiFi coverage Is not extended to all bedrooms. During our stay the hotel was very quiet, there appeared to be only a handful of guests, the car park was deserted. The hotel is located a short walk from the town and close to the local attractions, and provides a nice base to explore the area. Whilst the hotel appears to have been quite grand at one time, it is showing its age and needs bringing up to date, maybe the current renovations will address that. Until the renovations are completed we would not consider staying at the hotel again.

As we arrived our first sight of the front of the hotel was ‘wow’ this looks great, built in the 1880’s in an attractive Georgian style. Walking through the front door to reception our hearts sank a little as ‘modernisation’ had crept in and somewhat muted our initial smiles. But never judge a book by its cover, so from then on in our stay just got better and better. Every member of staff that we come into contact with were just brilliant and couldn’t do enough for us, professional, courteous, big smiles and above all made us feel extremely safe with the Covid safety systems they have implemented and observe to the letter. We had booked in for dinner and breakfast the following day and both meals were just outstanding. The room was immaculate, clean and very comfortable with a huge bed! The only thing that was disappointing was the poor WiFi signal in our room but that was the one and only negative. In summary a wonderful place to stay, outstanding food and a great team of staff who will ensure you have a fabulous time.

Enjoyed our quick 1 night stay at the Golf. Warm welcome in lovely reception area, nice, well thought out room with tea and coffee making facilities. Lovely setting in lovely grounds. Breakfast was good, although my husbands scrambled eggs were the whitest we have ever seen, but tasted ok. Definitely plan to return and as family are close by, we will.

Having read a few reviews I was beginning to think that I’d made a bit of a mistake by stopping here during a recent business trip. However, the room was a good size and decorated to a good standard and very clean. I ate in the main bar, where the staff let me put Liverpool FC on the big screen-may have been different if there had been more than the 10 or so people in there-the food very nice and freshly prepared, and drinks very reasonably priced. Breakfast was perfect. The only slight criticism I would say is that the bathrooms only have the electronic / non traditional plumbed toilets so there are ‘rules’ about using them. Will probably look at coming back here to play golf up the road in summer, it will be interesting to see if they can cope with a several large golfing parties.
