Bad luck or we just have a greater feedback experience than other customers ? We had a really bad experience at Ulivo. Pictures are really idealistic. The place is not well maintained. When we arrived we were to told the swimming pool will be empty for still 3 days. Then When we first used the bathroom the water color was yellow. At first we thought it was pee but the day after they told us the flush is rusted and cause this color. They moved us to a new room. And yet a great experience. It was a pleasure to be awaken by sewers odors. Regarding the place and service: Hole in sheets Spots on lampshade The breakfast room is covered and dark Breakfast is the very minimum. And you ll find a lot of bad fixes : around the wardrobe the wall is not painted in the same color than the rest of the room. After all of this they were not very generous in excuses and found all the time explanations. (But as a customer we don't care about explanations we pay for a service). We had to discuss to get the breakfast (that we already booked) for free. But they only accepted to partially offer us the breakfast and threatened us to take the whole deposit on our credit card. Not a good place. No good manners.

Gentilissimi signori Parto col dirvi che il vostro problema è stato fin da subito quello di non voler pagare per intero l’importo della prenotazione, così trovata la "scusa" dell’acqua gialla nel water, a causa dell’acqua della rete non sempre limpida, avete immediatamente fatto notare che avremmo dovuto applicare un piccolo sconto, vi abbiamo così cambiato camera per venirvi incontro e avete cercato con delle foto di trovare delle piccole imperfezioni , si, la piscina era vuota in quanto in manutenzione per due giorni, oltretutto in delle giornate nuvolose, infatti come potevate notare anche da soli la sala nella quale avete fatto colazione è chiusa proprio a causa del maltempo. La foto scattata all’esterno , oltre ad essere in un punto in cui i clienti non dovrebbero passare è un angolo nel quale cuciniamo la carne allo spiedo, dovrebbe saperlo visto che lei s’intende di cucina! P.s : avete PRETESO e non chiesto che vi fosse offerta la colazione per il solo inconveniente del bagno, vi è stato fatto un’adeguato sconto del 10% che non meritavate assolutamente visto che la tariffa era già scontata e che la nostra era una causa persa già in partenza con voi. Oltretutto ci avete proposto di farvi uno sconto per evitare una cattiva recensione che avrebbe abbassato il nostro punteggio, cosa che non ci preoccupa minimamente! Sappiate solo una cosa, è nel nostro interesse che un cliente vada via soddisfatto ed è una nostra abitudine rimediare agli errori che lavorando possiamo fare, credo che se aveste avuto le “buone maniere” delle quali avete parlato saremmo stati noi stessi ad offrirvi la colazione.

Nice hotel, clean and comfortable rooms. Excellent kitchen, glorious wines and a great swimming pool ! Only 20 minutes from the beach. I can recommend this location to everybody, incl. couples with children.

We traveled along the east coast of Sardinia starting at Poro Pozzo. We spent one night in Girasole on our way to Calassetta. The hotel is set in an olive grove with grape vines and palm trees all around, with nearby beaches. The hotel service was friendly and excellent, the room was ready, clean and large. The air conditioning was very good. The pool area and surrounding gardens were most attractive. We had dinner in the outdoor restaurant, under the stars, and the menu offered wonderul choices, the food was excellent and the price very reasonable. This was a wonderful stop for us in Sardinia. Highly recommended for those who enjoy a very quiet and nature type experience.

We came by car, driving ±170km after arriving by ferry in Olbia. Our route led us through the amazing Gennargentu mountains and we were very exited to be in Sardinia. Arriving in Tortoli and Girasole, we started to panic... These towns are really untidy and disordered. The verges of the road are filled with litter (something we began te see all everywhere we went). The houses are not finished, the gardens are unkempt. The hotel is located next to the road from Tortoli to Girasole, and we would never expect a hotel here. Our GPS led us into a small road, where the hotel is situated behind some houses. Not really a pleasant way to arrive. But, there we were and there was nothing else for us to do than to check in... In front of the hotel we saw a pergola and a lot of tables and chairs. This turned out to be the restaurant in the evening. We then tried to find the reception, which is a little further in the "garden". There was no-one to be seen (it was noon). Someone was working around the hotel, sweeping floors, and this gentlemen welcomed us. It turned out to be the owner. He had a little trouble finding our reservation - the lack of speaking any other language than Italian was again very prominent. He asked us to sit by the pool to wait until our room was ready. So we went to the pool and sat in some lightweight white plastic chairs that you come accross everywhere in Sardinia. When seeing the pictures of this pool, we did not expect it to have olympic measurements, but it was actually much smaller than we thought. The pictures on their website give a whole other impression. Again, we were the only ones there. At that time, I began to feel rather unhappy and disappointed. Our children, who had been used to a fancy hotel and dito pool in Tuscany, were rather quiet, too. The owner brought the drinks we ordered, and got it wrong. At this point, we didn't even want to protest anymore - what could we do, where else could we go? After 40 min. I went back to the reception, wondering when our room would be ready. At this time, the owner's wife Rita was there. She gave me a very warm welcome, was extremely friendly and exited to see us (yeah, I thought, we're your only guests...). I thought she was nice, but... nevertheless, the room wasn't ready yet. After about an hour, we were shown to the room: a cottage in the garden with stone floor, wooden beams for a ceiling and only one, small window. In front of the room we had a narrow patio with a table and 4 again white plastic chairs (but no room to put all 4 of them). The room was clean and fresh, which was very nice as it was already 35°C by that time. After unpacking, Rita gave us some tips for trips in the surrounding area and we soon escaped to a nearby town, Santa Maria Navarrese, to have something to eat and to see the beach. We spent the afternoon there, as we didn't find the hotel appealing at all. By night, we were glad to see that we were luckily not the only guests; evidently everyone escaped the hotel during the day... Diners in the hotel, on the whole, were not that special. We never once said afterwards that we had a lovely meal. It was very standard. It annoyed us, although we later heard that, it was in order to survive, the owners had turned their restaurant in a pizzeria. So every evening there were cars and mopeds arriving and leaving picking up pizza's they ordered. I think this annoyed everyone of the ±20 guests in the hotel. Luckily, the wine was very cheap. Breakfast is standard as well. You have the sweet croissants and the hundreds of little cups of jam and chocolade spread. Then some artificial orange juice (which you find all over Italy, even in the best hotels!), which is sweet and sticky. The breadrolls were crispy and tasty, so I ate them the whole time we were there. There was some ham and cheese, but it also looked cheap and artificial. Their cuppucino was good, but not hot enough. Whe Rita offered us an egg, I emmidiately asked for a scrambled one, but they only offered boiled ones. All over, we were disappointed about the hotel. The owners and the staff were very, very friendly and I have nothing bad to say about them. They did all they could, but it was obvious they were struggling. The hotel desperately needs some work. The roof and corniches are worn, the outer walls have some serious cracks that are temporarily fixed (but not repainted!), the garden is clean but needs pruning, and there is no grass or lawn to be seen anywhere, there is no holiday atmosphere at all. Palm trees look tropical on pictures, but where palmtrees grow, nothing else does, so the rest of the garden was barren. By the pool, there was an American poolbar which hadn't been used for years. The cooking unit, the counter,... everything was abandoned and fallen apart. We could imagine the hotel as once full of live, with diner served by the pool (as shown on their pictures and which very much appealed to us!) with parties around the pool etc... Now it was almost dead. The "action" had totally moved to the front: the pizzeria and it wil put off guests even more. The owner himself told us they were struggling, even in this high season. Guests stayed for a couple of days and then moved on. We were there for a week and did not regret leaving. Luckily, the nature in this part of Sardinia is beautifull. So we went for roadtrips which ended in the evening at one of the attractive beaches. We stayed by the pool 2 days just reading and with the children playing in the water (alone, ofcourse...). We ordered drinks and got cans of coca cola... so that wasn't a very appealing expierence either. When I asked for a Martini (I didn't even dare to ask for anything fancier), they had to search for a bottle and than poured me the last inches of it - looked like they had this bottle for years... So L'Ulivo is really a 2-star hotel, becoming even less or maybe an albergho, but certainly isn't worth it's 3 stars. You should be warned. I wouldn't be so disapointed if their rates weren't so unbalanced. We travelled through Italy for 20 days and payed the same amount per day in a fancy 4-star hotel in Tuscany, which had far nicer rooms, a brilliant landscape pool and nice diners. It really wasn't worth the money at all! WIFI was free, but only available in the breakfast area, so you need a laptop. It is not even very special for the children too, except for the pool there is nothing else to do for them. I wouldn't recommend going to L'Ulivo. Maybe next year, it won't even be a hotel even more. Loved the owners and the staff, though, so I'm sad to see their dream and livelyhood go down, but it seems to be inevitable.

Albeit arriving in somewhat moist weather, we found the atmosphere of this friendly hotel amazing. We were geeted by a smile, each time we came to reception the owner had a smile larger than life on her face. If you want to go to a well priced hotel, that is amazingly clean, has gardens that are well planned and clean, rooms that are so clean you can walk barefoot anywhere in the rooms or toilets, then this is the place for you. It was a place to relax. A large pool, well equipped. Dinner and breakfast that we had were priced perfectly. Especially in comparison to the rest of Sardinia eg Cala Colgna and Olbia or even nearer to Peurto Cervo where we stayed afterwards. Thank you for a wonderful stay! If you want a rest, this is the place to visit, then drive down the single lane roads to interesting down to earth palces or even a beach visit. For singles, familes or all.
