We took the “Tea Train” to Bandarawela. The hotel serves great English meals and is beautifully landscaped. The rooms had claw foot bathtubs and the hot and cold water for the shower has an interesting plumbing design so you have to be careful not to burn yourself. The hot water faucet is on the right instead of the left. Hotel and restaurant staff were very friendly and provided prompt service.

Some lovely features in this historic hotel. The room was comfortable but the bathroom facilities could benefit from some modernisation.
We would like to thank Pradeep, Executive Chef, for his efforts to welcome clients and ensure a great experience in the restaurant.

We stayed here as part of a tour group as it appears there is limited accommodation in the area. The hotel certainly shows it's age as an original workers accommodation for railway construction workers then converted to a hospital. There were mixed reviews between our group about the standard of bedding, ranging from fair to very good, so it may depend which room you get. If not entirely happy on check in, do ask to see if another room is available, as some of our party had their rooms changed on request. Some rooms have kettles/coffee/tea etc, some didn't. Buffet breakfast here was the standard buffet with tasty local options. Some members of our group also enjoyed dinner here, while we chose to eat dinner in town which is only a short walk away. There is a mosque directly adjacent to the hotel, which we heard the call to prayers on our first night, but slept through on the second night. They also have a bar with friendly staff - large lion beer 920lks, wine 1200lks.

This is a hotel from the english colonial times that is being successfully maintained uptodate. The place has safeguarded the vintage looks very well. Although situated in the middle of bandarawela town it is a very calm and quiet place. The restaurant has an ala carte menu with wide range of options and the food is delicious. The staff is very nice and attentive. The place is very clean and well kept. The price is on the high side but it comes with the quality and the history of the place. Definitely worth the visit.

Spent three days in a Group of three familieis one with two kids. The overall satisfaction level expressed by all was excellent beyond compare and this excellence came from all Departments, the kitchen, restaurant staff, housekeeping reception, bar service. The combined excellence is rare for most hotels, but I am happy to record Bandarawela hotel excells. Congratulations must go to General Manager Mr Azmeth and Executive Chef Pradeep. The hotel having a proud record of 150 years of great service still preserves the best in "Olde World" charm of great living styles of centuries ago. Hotel is in the heart of the town, but in a glorious landscaped environment of flowers, lawns and great trees. For trian watchers the famous Nine Arch Railway Viaduct bridge is half hours drive plus the famous Demodera Loop where a train that enters the station then winds down a steep mountain gorge by going a looped circle and passing right underneath the station through a tunnel. The Hotel is a convenient mid point between cold Nuwara Eliya or Little England and the Forest Sanctuary of Yala in the deep South famous for wild elephants, leopards. For the traveller who wants to be pampered, Bandarawela Hotel is a must visit.

It is sad to see the way of the service of this hotel. Waiter’s doesn’t know how to speak to their guest too.

We ordered coffee, cups were not cleaned at all and coffee was not warm. We asked for tea pot and water again, waiter was asking why didn’t you place the order at once. It’s pathetic to see this type of service from Aitken Spence Hotels.

We had a family reunion and celebrated a birthday and the manager and staff provided exceptional service from the time we arrived at the hotel. The room was spacious and spotless and the air conditioning worked efficiently. We had an enjoyable stay and we will definitely return for a longer stay!! The new year celebrations organized on the lawn was very special.

Little value for money - we were here for lunch and the meal was overpriced, average food quality with dirty table-cloth. There was no soap on the toilet and there were little annoying mosquitos everywhere. I would recommend different places in this area.

Regret I fail to understand why anyone would go to a Hotel in Bandarawela to order Pizza! In Italy - yes . In Sri Lanka with so much local fare to choose from I doubt it is even on the menu. In saying that , the staff are so eager to please , perhaps they tried to do their best.
