I've travelled through South Africa and this was defenitely the most beautiful and unique Backpackers I've seen. This place is made with a lot of love and you feel like entering a different world going through that gate. The atmosphere is amazing and there are lovely places to relax everywhere. Everything is surrounded by Banana trees and you can watch... More

The best backpackers I've been to. The large and equipped public areas exceed expectations. Location Veetr good. Service great. Good meals. Yes, they over do the music (volume) after midnight. I'll return anytime i'm in the area.

Travelled Sa extensively .Stayed at almost every backpacker accommodation. Mantis &Moon Is Definately ORIGINAL.This is scarce and makes it a gem of a place.Staff are mixed volunteers international and locals. They seem a bit 'here and their ' but i understand the industry so please forgive if they leave you hanging while disappearing to deal with one of the many unforseen... Though the tree house/jungle vibe is quite cool, the bar will play loud music all night long making any good sleep impossible. If the bar isn't loud enough, even louder music and drunk people screaming will come from the fire pit area even closer to the tree house rooms. You'd think with travelers traveling hours around the country at different... More

Hear the ocean while you are deep in the rainforest! Mantis and Moon Backpackers is amazing, a jungle-vibe backpackers only 5 minutes walk from the East Coast of South Africa and then amazing Umzumbe beaches. The yoga studio is absolutely stunning, truly world class. I would highly recommend staying in one of the treehouse rooms as they are amazing and... More

When I first heard about the Mantis & Moon and its concept I was fascinated. A private jungle with monkeys leaping from one tree to another and an onsite Yoga Studio sounded like a dream come true. However, the Mantis & Moon is not exactly as relaxing and meditative as it is advertised. Sure, the location is stunning, but the... More

We booked the place well ahead to have a place to stay for the night on our roadtrip from Durban to Cape Town. I guess for a certain type/character it is alright and the waves at the nearest beach are alright for learning to surf BUT: - do absolutely not stay in the "treehouse dorm" - this is just disgusting,... The hostel is interesting and set in a beautiful jungle atmosphere. There seem to be a lot of people working there but it's very disorganized. I stayed 4 nights with a friend and it was at least 2 days too many. The first day we had breakfast of yogurt and cereal. It was plain but only 30 R so was... More
