My previous reviews late last year still stands. This is an excellent hotel and a good value if you manage to book early and get a good price. Check in was fast and the front desk was very courteous. She was upfront about possible internet outages, which did not happen. I tested the internet speed and it was quite good. No need to update to a "faster" (paid) service. My only update is this. Last year, they had a grab and go breakfast which was quite substantial and really good. Well, as of this time, it was no longer available. Their bistro is now open and as you can guess, it is not free.

I had a procedure at the Woodburn Outpatient Center which I needed a hotel to stay at for two nights, the night before surgery, and the night after surgery to have a post-op visit with the ophthalmologist. I wanted to stay close since we needed to be at Woodburn early in the AM & I didn't want to run into any traffic delays. First, I usually only stay at Marriott properties, rooms are very clean and comfortable and service is usually very good and consistent. Pre-COVID, I would want to stay at a Marriott property that included breakfast as part of the room fee but since the pandemic, having an included breakfast is not the same anymore. This Courtyard is well located, on Gallows, less than 2 miles from INOVA Woodburn. There is a Starbucks within walking distance, Courtyard is close to Sweetwater Tavern and several other restaurants. Room was fine, relatively quiet, on the 10th floor. Check-in was quick and efficient. Parking is $5 per night and that is typical for any hotel in the Tysons area. I was OK with fee, it was nominal. The only issue that we experienced, which I have never experienced in all my stays at various hotels throughout the world, was that there were sugar ants - we had a small snack in the room, and two appeared on a table that folks would use for their computer or possible eat off of. I killed two, then killed another. I let the front desk know so that they could do something after we checked out. Unfortunately we were too unpacked to move to another room. We made a decision not to eat anything in the room which was very inconvenient since I wasn't sure if I wanted to appear in public after I had my surgery. Everything was OK for the rest of the first night and the next AM. However when we came back after the surgery, I killed another one in a different location in the room and then another. So I called the front desk and said that they were still appearing to make sure that something would be done. The front desk person apologized and said that she would leave a message with the manager, Andy, who will want to talk to me in the AM. So the next AM, once we got our Starbucks coffee & scones to eat at a table in the lobby, I talked to Andy and he was not aware of the situation and said that ants are a problem this time of year in Northern VA. Until I prompted him about being inconvenienced and having to kill ants, he then comped back part of the room for the second night which I appreciated. However, I still decided to write this review favorably since the hotel is in a great location and I would stay here again. Just maybe not in May when the ants are appearing in Northern Virginia.

As a titanium member, I booked the hotel room 2 months in advance for my wife and myself for a business trip. I checked in via mobile app approximately 24 hours in advance. Upon arrival, the hotel was basically empty. There was no upgrade given. Upon getting to the "regular room", there was no water bottles, no tooth paste, and no tooth brush. There was also no room service menu. After calling to the front desk, operations manager Ms. Monyinnet White was very curt and stated there was no room upgrade because there were no rooms available, there was no room service at this hotel, and this hotel did not give complementary water (NOTE: the hotel was basically empty for the two night stay and I've never been denied water EVER as a titanium member). After questioning Ms Smith on why this one Marriott did not give water, when we just stayed at another Courtyard Marriott and there was 2 bottles of water in the room, she laughed and said "because of Marriott Covid rules and someone might touch the bottles without gloves". She then said if we wanted water we could come to front desk and get some. Ms. White was then asked if she could get someone to bring the bottles to the room and she stated there were no staff that could deliver water to our room. After going downstairs, Ms White handed over 2 small bottles of water without gloves on her hands, and thus ending the argument about no water due to Marriott Covid rules and someone could possibly touch the water bottles without gloves. (NOTE: Not even sure why the water wasn't placed when we used the mobile check in. Then no one would touch the water until we arrived in the room! ) Later, we called the front desk and asked for a 530am wake up call which never happened. Luckily we had the phone alarm set as backup. Fast forward to our last day. After packing and coming down from the room at 5am, the night shift (male, middle aged, short white hair, was laying on the lobby couch watching tv. He was asked to call a taxi for us. He got off the couch looking very unhappy that we bothered him. He was told to disregard and an Uber was booked instead. In short, this was the worst stay in 14 years as a Marriott member. Ms. White should be demoted immediately and counseled on how to deal with customers. We will never return to this Marriott again. Clearly Titanium status means nothing.

Response from Andrew Webber, General Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Dunn Loring Fairfax
Responded Mar 31, 2021
Dear JimLane007, I'm sorry to see you did not have an enjoyable stay with us. Providing customers with outstanding service is our primary mission and I'm sorry we fell short. It appears you are not used to staying at Courtyards, and maybe more accustomed to Marriott's premium bands (Ritz Carlton or JW). Courtyards do not offer room service, provide tooth past and tooth brushes in the rooms or provide bottled water as a titanium benefit. During your stay, all of our suites were sold, so I apologize we could not offer a suite upgrade. I wish we could have met your expectations, but unfortunately you were looking for services and benefits not offered by Courtyard.

Lobby is clean and waiting area is clean and spacious. Check in was fast and hassle free. They have a small convenience store selling some basic meds, snacks and drinks. ATM in the lobby by the elevators. Small business center with a printer to print our your boarding passes and other stuff Rooms are large and clean. AC works well. Bed and pillows are judged by my wife and she likes them. The usual flat iron, hair dryer, coffee maker, small fridge, and a smart flat screen tv with a great choice of entertainment selection. You can even input your Netflix account into it. You can configure your smart phone into a simple TV remote thus avoiding handling a high touch device A word on Netflix It is a little confusing on how to log off from their TV. Turning the tv off does not log you off. I don't know if they log you off immediately after you check out but you really do not want the next person using your account. I found the way to log off and its a little hidden. It is NOT on the Netflix screen. Instead go to the Get Help Menu from the main TV menu screen. At the bottom of the choices is the Exit Netflix choice. That is how to log your account off Netflix. See my attached picture. Internet. Tested it twice. Both in AM and PM. It seems to be a synchronous system. That is, both upload and download speeds are about the same. Pretty darn fast. A consistent 14 mbps. My test video from youtube played smooth without any buffering. Bathroom Hot water with good pressure. Clean and well stocked. They do not give those small soaps and shampoo/conditioner containers. They have large dispensers for that. See picture. The free morning breakfast is supposed to be grab and go but a few guest sat down and ate there. Social distancing was possible due to the reduced number of seats available. The breakfast was quite substantial for a grab and go breakfast. Self service laundry available!! Cost about $1.50 per cycle. Each washer/dryer cycle is about 30 minutes. See picture. The fitness center was open but to use it you have to schedule your usage with the front desk. Indoor pool was closed. Parking is underground and secured by a gate. You need your key cards for access. Parking is not free. I believe it was $5 a night. Not sure now. They have a very few limited parking outside by the front but I believe they don't allow over night here. Not sure. The paid parking for me is a bummer and a hidden cost. The area is within 5 minutes walk of the Vienna Metro station. There is a Harris Teeter supermarket across the rear of the hotel. There is a rear exit so you do not have to walk out the front and go around the building. Nearby are many food shops (around the metro station) and the Mosaic shopping district is within 10-15 minutes walk. Stayed here twice. Once in September. Enjoyed my stay so stayed there for 2 nights in October.

I stayed at the Marriott Dunn Loring for 34 days for business. This hotel was amazing and in a great location. Andrew and his staff made me feel at home while away from home. They were extremely nice, helpful and friendly. The rooms were a great size and the bed super comfortable. There are several excellent restaurants within walking distance, a few grocery stores and the Metro is right across the street! I would recommend this hotel to anyone needing a place to stay when in the D.C. area!
