We spent one fabulous open-air night (sky was clear and the stars went on forever!) a few weeks ago. Wright and his crew made every effort to make our stay one we will never forget. Words cannot describe how unique and wonderful this experience was.
We rode here on camels from the sister camp Loisaba Tented Camp. This is real rustic, raw accommodation, whilst still staying in pure luxury with the more awe-inspiring views overlooking the hippo watering hole. This is without a doubt the most romantic and exciting nights sleep you will ever have! The stars utterly cover the sky, the bed is toasty warm with hot water bottles and plenty of blankets. The early morning sunrise is spectacular; they will bring you hot coffee and cookies to enjoy in bed! Food is wonderful and they even organised a secluded star-lit private dinner for us before going to sleep. Special thanks to Suningo - our waiter. What a professional and kind member of staff! I cannot recommend this experience highly enough. DO IT!
Amazing location and views, fabulous food and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. We cannot rate this highly enough. Being able to roll the bed onto the verandah at night makes it extra special.
Spent one night here (July 28) after two nights at Loisaba Tented Camp. (See separate review for Loisaba Tented Camp.) We loved Starbeds. We were in Room #1 and had a great view of the watering hole where there are hippos and elephants. There are only 4 unit here-two are on the same level as the lodge, the other two are lower. We prefer the higher unit for the view and not having to walk up and down hill. We almost switched out of Starbeds to spend an extra night at Tented Camp as we were concerned being out in the open might be too cold as it was a bit cold and windy at Tented Camp. We were told it should be OK as there is less wind at Starbeds which turned out to be true. During the afternoon it rained while we were in the unit which was really enjoyable. Because of the rain they were not able to roll the bed out to the deck but that was fine as we enjoyed it just as much. If we had to do it all over again we would have stayed one night at Tented Camp and two nights at Starbeds. Starbeds is about a 20 minute drive from Tented Camp and is essentially a stand alone camp for eating and dining. We kept our same guide and tracker as at Tented Camp-they just picked us up and dropped us off for the game drives. Since Starbeds is a much smaller camp than Tented Camp, staffing is lighter so service was not quite as good. However, not an issue. We highly recommend at least one night at Starbeds for anyone staying at Tented Camp. Similar outdoor experiences we have done or will be doing are staying at “The Nest” at Serian in Masai Mara and the Kingston Treehouse at Lion Sands in South Africa.…
My family (husband and two boys 17 and 12) stayed here in June and were absolutely amazed. The food was delicious and the staff friendly and thoughtful. My husband and I went on an evening walking safari while the boys went on a jeep safari. The next morning we went on a camel safari and bush breakfast that was a scene out of a movie. Giraffes and elephants ate and roamed on the hill above us, birds sang as we ate the most amazing omelets, muffins, and fruit. The rooms are gorgeous! The hardest part about this trip was trying to not fall asleep in the comfortable bed to gaze at the stars. Don't hesitate - go on this trip!
