Mikro Livadi Special Lodges is a unique family business in village Episkopi of Rethymno located in the bewitching island Crete. This lovely complex is comprised of 5 one-bedroom residences in a quiet, natural environment resplendent with olive groves and vineyards, yet very close (150m) to the marvelous beach Episkopi. Each of the residences (Ampelos, Dafni, Elia, Rogdia) is 80m2 with one bedroom and one bathroom plus a cosy living room. Each residence has a fully-equipped kitchen and a private balcony. Rogdia and Elia also have a private terrace. The views include the garden, the White Mountains, olive groves, vine yards. The simple, clean design and carefully chosen modern furniture and furnishings enhances the overall zen-like atmosphere. The high-quality materials and construction were based on bioclimatic design principles, thereby respecting the health of the people and the environment. Careful consideration has gone into preserving the agricultural land around the residences. There is also the added treat of a Cretan cuisine organic restaurant on the premises. At Mikro Livadi restaurant the culinary creations follow the circle of nature that’s why ingredients and dishes change according to season. The dishes are made using high quality (most of them organic) ingredients mostly produced by the Family and the local farmers around the area. The cuisine is so humble that touches the limits of gourmet. You will not find imaginative or exotic recipes, but you will become experts on how excellent quality ingredients and food taste like.

where are 10 stars? Because Mikro Livadi and its magical team deserve them. The location is perfect, you can walk to the beach in just a few minutes and at the same time enjoy the view of the mountains and olive groves. A wonderful flowering garden gives the impression of being in an oasis. The saltwater pool, like everything else on site, is very well maintained and clean. The big highlight, however, is the kitchen and the warmth of Malamathenia and her family. Here you can enjoy the best Cretan cuisine, fresh, straight from the garden to your plate. 100% recommended

In the first instance, I think it should be clarified this place is not a hotel as it says on Booking.com, it is a series of 5 apartments, which are serviced to some extent (but not daily) and a nice restaurant.

As we were three adults traveling together, we were looking for somewhere with two sleeping spaces, and this fit the bill. We were also looking to be outside of the main cities - and this is a lovely spot in the countryside.

The apartments have a lovely pool (we did not have any of the issues the reviewer below had) and a fantastic view. The restaurant is also excellent (try the courgette flowers!) and gets very busy in the evenings. They have good air conditioning and a large fridge, though not all the pots, pans and cutlery you might want - for instance we had to ask for bowls.

The owners of the apartments are very lovely, and very accommodating. However, I think it should be noted a number of items listed as available in the rooms were not there when we arrived (iron, safe, a lamp from the photos etc) so we had to request all of these, as well as there being no top sheet or duvets which we had to request.

The flats are nicely cleaned, however some of the furnishing are used and damaged/dated and the flat we stayed in could use an interior renovation. For instance, the bathroom doesn't have a shower curtain or the ability to hang the showerhead anywhere. It also didn't have any towel racks in the bathroom - only far away across the living room. The light in the bathroom was also very dim, which we asked to be replaced and it was, and there was evidence of old 'sticky hooks' which had fallen off which gave the bathroom a haphazard air. The blinds were stained, the bed extremely creaky, and the decorative pillows stained.

So overall, for a clean apartment, with a lovely pool, great restaurant and very nice and accommodating owners in an ideal location it is great. I just think the Lodges should be careful about classifying as a hotel, rather than rental apartments with a restaurant.

We stayed at Mikro Livadi Special Lodges for 5 nights and we had great time! The room was comfortable and very clean with all the necessary equipment. The lodges are suitable for couples or families as they have a very nice garden and a excelent eco pool with salt water. The location is perfect, just 5’ walking to the beach(Episkopi beach). Also the town of Rethymno is only 10’ driving. The best part of the lodges is the family who runs the business. They are very friendly and welcoming . Malamatenia is the best cook , she did welcome us everyday with the best breakfast with Cretan products and her big smile. We also had dinner to the restaurant which was FANTASTIC, freshly cooked traditional cretan food, organic vegetables that Malamatenia’s husband Mr Aetos collects everyday from his own farm. (Try Sfakiani Pita, stuffed zucchini flowers, Kaltsounia , Greek Mousaka and local cheeses) Last but not least, Aggeliki is very helpfull . She gave us great tips for thing to do during our stay! We will definitely come back!! Special thanks again to all the FAMILY who took care of us everyday!

Lovely design and accommodating suite! We stayed in Dafni lodge and it was perfectly equipped with everything we might have needed.

Nice air conditioning, lovely pool in the garden that was lush green and beautifully taken care of. Great breakfast, such as all the meals we had there!

The apartment was very clean, cleaning was renewed daily and also taking into account our hours requests (we were travelling with kids, so sometimes they would clean even late in the evening so as not to disturb us).

Most important was the family that runs the place, they are most welcoming and warm, real sweet people making you feel that no request is too much.

They have taken such nice care of us all, thanks so much and hope to be back one day. Warm hugs from us!

The best lodge in Crete! Designed based on Bioclimatic architecture principle, well architected properties. We love this place and the salt water swimming pool is eco and so well placed with views to mountains and olive groves. This is a unique proposition for our family and we can have the best food in the area from the in house farm to the table restaurant! We come back again!

Our family of six - children 3 and 7, parents and grand-parents - enjoyed 10 perfect days in july during our stay at Mikro Livadi Special Lodges. The hardworking, very kind and extremely generous hosts went out of their way to spoil us and meet our wishes for especially vegan specialities from their all organic farm. The whole place is quiet and charming, withdrawn from the main road between Chania and Rethymno. The salt water pool is unique with a beautiful view to the mountains, and the beach is only five minutes away with with taverna, playground and free sunbeds. We had two neighbouring flats. Excellent cleaning. Vegetarian and vegan friendly. Highly recommended!

I only have positive things to say about our experience here. The incredible generous & kind staff served delicious food from their farm to table restaurant (their moussaka was the best I've ever eaten) & they were so accommodating. Angelica & her Mother treated us so well, we would definitely recommend staying here. The room was large & had everything we needed with gorgeous views of the olive groves & mountains. The pool was a very tranquil setup. Our stay was so peaceful & the we were given lots of advice on local areas to visit (although we could have happily had never left the hotel!)
Also the breakfast was divine (& it'll keep you going for most of the day!) We'd love to go back

Absolutely excellent. Malamatania and her daughter Anastasia were the kindest, most generous hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Our apartment had a beautiful view of the mountains behind us, the garden below and the wonderful beach at Episkopi was just a few minutes walk away . The apartment was well equipped and very clean, with excellent air conditioning.
Best of all was their restaurant below our apartment, peacefully set out in the well kept garden, where all the produce was fresh and delicious, most of it grown on the premises, and picked that day. Or sourced locally. The courgette flowers stuffed with rice, the fennel and cheese pies, and stuffed aubergines were so delicious, but lots of meat and seafood dishes available too.
Another highlight was the swimming pool, beautifully kept with sun loungers and parasols to give shade when needed.
About 45 minutes drive from Chania, and 20 minutes drive to Rethymno, a car is pretty essential, but this place is an absolute hidden gem and we will definitely be going back

We were looking for a family run appartments in a perfect spot to explore north and west of Crete, and within a walking distance to a beach. We were delighted about Mikro Livadi with five apparments, ensuring privacy, spacious rooms, peacefulness of the place and great Greek hospitality. Besides accommodation also breakfasts and dinners we have taken were much above our expectations. We learned most of the food is locally produced by the family, taking great care on organic farming. Idyllic scene of a grandfather preparing zucchini flowers in the morning gave us homey feeling. We would highly reccomend the place.

Totally worth to visit. The food is so fresh and tasty that is not possible to describe , have to try. The vegetables are coming to your table literally from the garden , the meat dishes just melting in your mouth. The whole atmosphere doesn’t feels like restaurant or taverna , more like you having dinner in the friends garden. The hosts are wonderful friendly people who speak at list two foreign languages : English and German.
