We stopped here on a beautiful day for some lunch - the deck view was amazing and the staff in the pub welcoming and friendly BUT then the food came - the chicken satay on a hot stone was 3 tiny pieces of chicken and no satay sauce, the shrimp cocktail was defrosted tiny shrimps and the salt n pepper...

After a long journey from Aucklnd, we were made most welcome, with magnificent views over the Hokianga harbour. My only problem with the hotel is that the rooms are small and the furniture struggles to allow guests to get aroiund it, but don't let that put you off, because this is a very special location.

Me and my wife recently stayed at the Opononi Hotel. Nice place next to the Hokianga with a nice little balcony with stunning views. Room was tidy and bed comfortable, bathroom looked recently renovated but the toilet totally in the wrong position - you had to be a contortionist to use it. Maybe overlooked by the designer. Anyway apart from...

Spent a lovely evening and night in the hotel. Old world atmosphere with updated facilities. Staff were helpful and obliging- even though we were a little late with our meal. Due to time of year, we were not able to enjoy the great looking outdoor area , however enjoyed time on the balcony of the room before dark, watching the...

We were delighted with our stop here, especially after a long day of driving to Cape Rienga. The room was clean & warm, we could see the water from our room, heaps of hot water/pressure & our bed was excellent. The added bonus was that the pub was part of the complex so didn't get wet in the rain. There...

Nice,if small room. Good bathroom.Very clean and warm, quiet , a balcony with sea view. Door to balcony was very stiff. The resturant was closed, I would advise anyone to only eat in the bar as a last resort.

We were staying at another hotel in the area and wanted to go to the local pub. Unfortunately the barman was surly and unhelpful, and their choice of music was inappropriate and overpowering. It could be a great spot in a beautiful location, but needs some refining and attention to detail. If you have a mostly older crowd, don't play...

Excellent location and the food is good. A good way to enjoy a neer and wind down. Over summer they have bands and is set up well. Easy place to unwind with a few with family and friends. The locals are friendly as with the staff

I had 2 friends from overseas that I was showing the beautiful Hokianga in particular Opononi. To say I was disappointed in the Opononi Hotel would be an understatement in fact we felt insulted. We arrived at the hotel and ordered a meal and some drinks. The barman right from the start was unhelpful and positively rude. When our food...
