Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
We had a very nice experience at Nicolas Studios and have little to complain about. The kitchen was small and charming, and in our case was only used for breakfast. The fridge should have been updated as it made noise.
Despite the fact that the apartments are not far from the main road, the street was quiet - perfect for us who traveled to relax. The beach is just across the main road, and you can find supermarkets of varying sizes within walking distance. If you can bear a 40-minute walk to Platanias, you will also find a Lidl store - but there is also a bus for those who want it (a bus ticket costs €2) and the bus stop is just around the corner.
Please note that some places say that there are non-smoking rooms, while other places say that there are no non-smoking rooms. We were very unlucky and had smokers on either side of our apartment. Since the window in the apartment faces the balconies, smoke came into the room and it was often that we woke up, fell asleep and slept to smoke.
However, we can highly recommend staying here. The hosts are professional and nice, they welcomed us and were helpful if needed.

We stayed in the Nicholas Studios in June 2023. The apartment was extremely comfortable and very well maintained. The garden are immaculate and the pool was lovely. No problem with sun loungers. Although the main road was near the apartments are on a side street and are very quiet. Stelios and his wife look after the complex really well. They gave us a really good welcome. I would not hesitate to stay there again. Well done

These Studios are brilliant! Very Clean and the pool area is lovely. They are located in a central position with the beach very close. The owners were very welcoming would definitely stay here again. Agia Marina is a very nice resort with lots of lovely Tavernas and shops and situated close enough to visit Chania Town.

We stayed at the begining of may with three friends for 3 nights. We booked 2 double rooms. The rooms with kitchen cortner were very clean, the owners very friendly and nice people. Outside pool is in garden full of flowers. Very close to the beach and restaurants and bars. I will definitelly book this place on my next visit in Agia Marina.

Absolutely fabulous! We had two apartments, services daily and very clean. The apartments are very close to main street and beach but on a quiet side road. Due to delays we arrived literally in the middle of the night but we were still greeted and settled in to our apartment's with no fuss - many thanks! We loved the gardens round the pool!

My husband and I stayed at Nicolas studios for a fortnight in May 2013 and had a wonderful time. So yes we'll be back.
Getting there from the airport: You could get the bus from the airport to Chania bus station and from there to Agia Marina. This would cost 3.20 Euros either way and all buses have the area underneath to take luggage. However we booked transfers online through the company A2B and it cost 24 Euros for both of us - return journey.
The Studios: are located in a clean, quiet, quaint street approximately 100 metres from the beach. They are small but adequate and absolutely spotless. The garden is lovely and tranquil - a suntrap. The only downside to the studio is the fact that the cooker only has two rings so you have to be pretty inventive if you want to make main meals. We like pasta dishes so that made it easy. The owners, Stelios and his wife Polly, are very helpful and kind. Polly cleans the studios and garden area practically every day. She was so hardworking that we had to tell her to leave our studio most days as we kept it tidy ourselves. Also check that the pool is in operation if booking out of season.
The Beach: I see someone has stated that it's not the best part of the beach but we would disagree with that. The beach was fantastic - sandy, great for children to make sandcastles, and absolutely spotless. It also went on for miles.
Sunbeds / food: There are numerous tavernas along the beach front. Some charge for the sunbeds but don't display a sign. Some don't. It might be an idea to check that before you lie down. Beach bars such as Palleria (run by Costas great guy) and Artemis (with Alek) don't charge, however we would buy a beer and soft drink and lie there all day. Both of these places sell great food. Artemis has a great deal on: 17 Euros for two that is a starter, main meal, ice cream and small bottle of ouzo. The food was great especially the fish. Costas food was great value for money too. His pizzas were brilliant.
There are numerous restaurants, tavernas and supermarkets to choose from in Agia Marina. However if going there I would suggest that you shop at Lidls, a 15 minute walk away, or take the bus 1.60 euros either way. As an example butter at Lidls was 1.11 Euros compared to nearly 4 Euros at the local supermarkets. The Lidl supermarket is located just as you leave Platanias. Platanias is worth walking to as it has a greater variety of upmarket shops.
The bus is a one minute walk away from the studios and takes you to Chania to the East or along the coast to the West. Buses come every 15 minutes, are air conditioned and can accomodate cases. No matter where you are going, East or West, the fare is 1.60 Euros either way. The last bus from Chania to Agia Marina is around 10:15 PM.
Cross the road and you can get a bus to Paliahora on the South Coast. This is a 2 hour journey, approximately, and worth taking especially if you don't want to hire a car. You see the real Crete, mountains and so on. Paliahoria is quaint and has a lovely beach. This bus goes approximately 3 times a day. We took it at 9:45 AM. The fare is 6 Euros each way.
Chania is full of shops, markets and so on and the old town is worth a visit. Stroll along the sea front but be careful if deciding to have a meal there. Be precise about what you want and don't accept any extras if you don't want to get ripped off. One of the meals we had there was to cost 20 Euros (for 2) but the bill came to 36 Euros!
Weather: The weather was great when we were there - 27 / 32 degrees. It rained one (all day) and was cloudy one afternoon.
Trips: Loads of boat trips and great little train trips (around 16 Euros each) into the villages and mountains.
Tea: If you like your cuppa take tea with you as it's expensive and doesn't really hit the spot.
Alcohol: Is really expensive. If you drink spirits get them at the airport. As an example a bottle of vodka costs between 17 / 20 Euros and whisky is much dearer. Local spirits such as raki and ouzo aren't cheap either. A pint (just short of) is around 2.50 / 3 Euros.
Cigarettes: You can buy most brands. I smoke Benson and Hedges. They were more expensive than most others and cost 4 Euros for a twenty pack. Others cost around 3.50 Euros a pack. Don't bother shopping around as the price is the same no matter wher you go.

My husband and I, had a EXELENT time at Nicolas studio&apartment in May 2014 for 14 days. The owners are so friendly and helpsam. The place are VERY CLEAN and the garden is so butiful with all the flowers.And now with a new build pool the hotell are complited. It is near to everything, busses, shooping, swimming in the ocean, many good Tavernes, Chania, and also the mountin. This place is a Paradis for us! We coming back soon! Many tanks to the onwers! Sorry they are no rooms with sea view but it is only 50mt from the beach. You will have to check with trip advisor for availability but it is very popular
