We were met and transferred from Mataveri Airport to Hareswiss Bungalows where we were warmly welcomed with a plate of sliced meats and cheeses, and a bottle of Chilean wine by our lovely host, Tiare. She brought us Continental breakfast each morning, and chatted several times every day, friendly without being at all intrusive. We spent five relaxing days before joining our cruise, walking in the lush gardens and driving around the island and getting to know this fascinating place and meeting the mighty Moai! Each evening we would enjoy a glass of wine and nibbles, bought from a nearby shop, on our balcony overlooking the gardens and down to the sea - perfecto! The property is close to town and easy to find after a day of exploring. It was home, with a real family feel. Unfortunately we did not meet Tiare's husband Peter as he was in hospital in Santiago. The room is airy and spacious and immaculately clean and comfortable, and the kitchenette meant we could prepare light meals if we wanted. A perfect place to relax and unwind.…
While my wife and I were flying to Easter Island the Chilean government announced the cancellation of all international flights two days later due to Covid 19. When we arrived at Hareswiss, Peter informed us immediately and drove us back into town to the best place with Wifi so we could make arrangements to get back to Canada. After two hours of fruitless searching he picked us up and drove us back to Hareswiss. It was a very stressful situation trying to figure out how to get out of Easter Island so we could make our return flight from Santiago but we eventually were able to get in the last commercial flight out. Peter was invaluable with his local knowledge and support. We have stayed in a lot of five star hotels in many countries but I have never experienced such caring, compassionate service as Peter provided. Hareswiss is a beautiful property, clean, quiet, private, a short taxi ride to all of the restaurants and with, in my books, one of the nicest gentleman you will ever meet. I will go back to Easter Island some day and will stay at Hareswiss again. …
The owner of the property could not be more accommodating or welcoming to his guests. You feel like an extension of his family when you are there. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. The views of sunset were wonderful. Highly recommend getting an Entel SIM card before going to Easter Island to be able to stay connected when you are away from the WiFi of Hareswiss.
Hare Swiss is located very close to the the town of Hanga Roa on Easter Island. Peter Nief, a Swiss born citizen who speaks umpteen languages including English, French, German and Spanish, is the perfect host! Peter knows the island inside and out, knows the culture, the politics and much about the fauna and flora of the island. He has built three properties which all overlook the ocean with front porches where you can sit in the evening and view the incredible sunsets. They overlook Cook's Point, the landing point for Captain Cook. All three separate units have kitchenettes and dining areas. Peter has fruit trees growing on his property - mango, bananas, avocados and other plants.
We had a great stay here - Peter and his family were very hospitable, and helped us with any questions we had (including dealing with some airline issues!). Everything was taken care of and the property itself is very nice. We really enjoyed our stay here.
Visiting Easter Island has always been a dream of mine and I finally got to fulfill my dream this past Christmas. I searched extensively for a place to stay and hit the jackpot with Hare Swiss. Peter (owner) had organized a driver to pick me up straight from the airport and drive me to the place, which is only a few mins drive. There are 3 beautiful bungalows, all with ocean views and incredible sunsets. It was very clean and spacious inside with a full kitchen and big bathroom. Peter, the owner, was very nice and made sure my stay was comfortable. The level of hospitality was incredible. He brought me fresh breakfast everyday and would check in on me to make sure everything was okay. He gave me great advice on visiting the island and even booked a few tours for myself. The location is very quiet and a great place to stay to unwind and relax. I had just come from visiting Patagonia so I wanted to relax and enjoy the heat and sun. It is a bit far from town if you walked (around 25mins) and I noticed most guests were renting a car thru Peter. However, the walk to town was really beautiful as you pass several Moai. There's a lone one nearby, and Ahu Tahai further down, both of which I would recommend seeing during sunset - absolutely incredible! (see photos). Since I was travelling solo, I didn't see the need to rent a car but it's really easy and cheap to take a cab into town ($6US). Peter offered several times to drive me into town, which he did. I got to know him more and hear some of his personal stories. He's a great conversationalist and you can tell he really enjoys taking care of people. I also got an opportunity to meet the other guests, which was really fun since I was travelling solo. We ended up hanging out together for NYE and watch the fire works by the beach. Overall a wonderful place but as we know, it's not the place that makes it special, but the people you meet. Great experience! Danke Peter!…
The experience in Hareswiss was beautiful, the localisation was just perfect with a wonderful view of the see from the bungalow, and the details from the owner Peter were nice, little cakes, cookies, candies, etc. The place was really quiet and safe, the bedrooms clean, confortable and well-organised. If you are considering going to Pascua Island, you should definitely consider staying at the the Hareswiss.
My friend and I had a wonderful stay at Hare Swiss! The cabins are clean and spacious. Our host, Peter, sent a driver to pick us up at the airport, and after we got settled into our cabin, Peter showed us around town so we would know where the stores, post office, good restaurants, and visitor center were. He took us to get our national park passes, and gave us tips on where to go, what to see, and the best times of day for photography. He also set us up for a traditional song/dance show and arranged a rental car and taxi. Peter is a wealth of information on the island and its history. The sea view from the cabin is beautiful with a lone moai at the bottom of the hill. There is a large parking area if you rent a car. In the evenings and early morning, we could sit on the front porch patio and watch the sea and sunsets. Peter loaned us binoculars and brought us po'e bread (banana bread), blueberry muffins, and bananas from his own tree. When it was time for him to take us to the airport, he gave us moai key chains that his wife makes. Hare Swiss was the perfect place to stay.…
Wonderful time, 3 nights, great location and view, short walk to town or taxi. Host Peter is a wealth of information, history, and stories. He could win on Jeopardy. We toured island with tour he recommended and our own sightseeing tour. Highly recommend
Glad that we chose Hareswiss. We concur with most of the reviews for this - a great place to stay on Easter Island, comfortable and very helpful / friendly host. We read a number of excellent reviews before decided to book Hareswiss. We were not disappointed. We stayed in a double room (with one king bed and a single bed which we did not use). Hareswiss has 3 standalone bunglows. Host Peter and his young family live in a separate bungalow on the property. The room was very clean and very large with a fully equipped kitchenette, a small fridge, dining table and chairs. The bathroom had shower over bath (good water pressures) and toilet paper can be flushed (not put in a bin). Each bungalow has a verandah with views to the sea and nice sunset. The king bed in our bungalow was very comfortable. The internet on the island was not the best, but it was like that for everyone. Host Peter is a former purser for Swiss Air, and he speaks fluent English. He was very prompt in replying to emails when we made the booking. The room rates included transfer to and from the airport - Peter picked us up and took us back to airport. Breakfasts were a little extra, but Peter provided us (in the fridge) plenty of fresh bread, fruit, yogurt, boiled eggs, ham and cheese, fruit juice, milk, cereals etc. He serviced and cleaned the bungalow everyday with fresh towels, bed making, and refresh breakfast items. We rented one of Peter's cars (a small SUV) during our stay. He lent us a book on Easter Island - very helpful. Driving around the Island was pretty straight forward - however, we downloaded a map of the island on our ipad and iphone before the trip and were able to use it for navigation. So, we recommend you do this (offline map). We highly recommend this place. Peter was a wonderful host who made us feel at home and welcome.…
